Harry Potter: Instant Kill

Chapter 40: Chapter 40: War Preparation

"Are you sure?" I asked while looking at her without panicking, "If he is still alive or has somehow been brought back, it will cause a huge uproar in the wizarding world. So I ask again are you sure?"

Seeing the serious look on my face and understanding what it would mean, she looked into my eyes before repeating, "I am certain." A nod from me was my only response before I turned to Daphne, "Could I borrow some paper along with some writing utensils? Mine are in my room where as yours are currently in your ring."

Daphne answered me by summoning what I had asked for, "What do you need them for?" I started to prepare a write a small note before replying, "I am going to inform my family to start preparing for war, the quicker we are ready the less toll his return will cause."

"Surely your family will not believe my story, right? I am a child after all." Grace asked while completely forgetting that I am the Lord Bodewig and Heir Black. I shook my head before correcting her, "My word has a lot of weight in my family, they will listen to me and will start to prepare. I would advise both of you to inform your parents too. "

After writing the letter, I placed it into my pocket so that I could get it delivered later. "So you were saying, you recognised the person by his laugh but what happened then?" I asked to get back to the last conversation, this caused the girls to look at me like I had grown a second head.

"You were just talking about preparing for war then went back to know all the juicy details of what happened to me, can you slow down and let me process things," Grace replied while looking understandably worried at the prospect of an impending war.

"Listen, as long as Dumbledore is around there will be no war. Old no nose is much too afraid of the guy for an open confrontation unless you suddenly foresee the old headmaster having a sudden heart attack then we should be fine for a while." I explained as if it was the most obvious thing in the world while the women had looks of realisation on their faces as they had forgotten about the "Strongest white wizard".

After they both calmed down, Grace told us the rest of the story, "Well when Harry and Ron fell unconscious, he turned his attention to me. When he cast some spells at me, I managed to dodge into the tree line behind me. When temporarily safe from spell fire, I remembered what Hagrid had said about the signalling spell and used it. When I used it, he grabbed my throat and screamed before throwing me against the tree."

"He screamed?" Daphne asked with a confused look on her face, "Like he was in pain?" She followed up while looking towards me to see if I did anything but all she received from me was a shake of my head. I had done nothing to him so the damaging effect was probably from the sacrificial magic just like in canon.

"I don't know what hurt him but it must have been enough to catch his attention since he didn't harm us further," Grace said while rubbing her head as if that could help her remember more. "I have just realised, why hasn't Harry butted in again? I would have thought he would have more to say." Grace added before looking over to see Harry and Ron in their own conversation since they couldn't hear ours due to the privacy charm I placed when Grace was telling us about Voldemort.

"That would be because I thought it would be better to have a privacy charm around us while we chatted about secret things," I explain before I waved my hand and removed the aforementioned charm.

"So you are really not crushing over the Greengrass girl like your sister said?" Ron asked while still under the impression we could not hear them, a sinister smile spread across Grace's face before she interjected into their conversation and started to tease her brother.

The three were released from the infirmary at lunchtime after being thoroughly checked by Madam Pomfrey for any new or old injuries. The teachers didn't finish their manhunt in the Forbidden Forest until dinner when Dumbledore stood before the student body to speak, "I am regretful to say that the dark magician who harmed 3 of our students has escaped. He has left little behind for us to track his movements while also removing the possibility of magic tracing to identify them through the magic they used."

He paused to let the noise from the sudden gossiping subside before smiling and continuing to speak, "For the foreseeable future security be increased around the Forbidden Forest and students shall be prohibited from exiting the castle unless accompanied by a member of staff." The second half of his announcement seemed to calm most of the students.

After dinner I retired to bed earlier than normal, leaving Grace and Daphne to gossip with the rest of Slytherin. As it turns out the biggest part of the Hogwarts rumour mill was Slytherin House which gathered and sold information at a fast pace, distributing it quickly to the rest of the school.

When I reached my room I laid down in bed to think of what comes next, "So all that is left for this year is the final confrontation at the end of year exams. Next year has the snake and I still don't know if I want a pet that big, I suppose it would make a good guard snake for Daphne and my house."
