Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Exam Season
The rest of the year leading up to the exam passed with nothing of note happening, except for a large number of students being admitted into the infirmary due to overworking themselves while trying to revise. "I am surprised Miss Granger hasn't been admitted yet," Daphne said while watching another student get levitated from the breakfast hall after collapsing into their cereal.
"They are worried that they will not get a good grade, some rightly so since they didn't pay attention to the lessons. It is the reason that Slytherin is still somewhat accepted by the rest of the school as we can provide both information and goods for a price." I answered her while looking at Grace who looked as tired as the boy who had just been levitated away.
When Grace slumped next to Daphne and piled some food on her plate, Daphne asked, "What is wrong Grace? Are you staying up late worrying about exams too?"
Grace took a full 10 seconds to process what Daphne had asked her before she replied, "No, I just keep having the same nightmare. I hear the voices of my grandparents before a flash of green light wakes me up."
"Madma Pomfrey should be able to give you a potion to help your sleeping such as a dreamless sleep one. If this keeps up you may be unable to do your exams and be held back a year." I teased after giving her advice.
"I will go after breakfast, I am hungry." She said in a low-energy tone while eating in small bits and chewing slowly. "I will be fine if I can get some sleep, I am top 5 in the year in terms of classwork."
When she finished her food we accompanied her to the infirmary where Madam Pomfrey took one look at her before asking, "I am currently out of dreamless sleep potions but another batch should be delivered at the end of the week. If you are severely in need of sleep, I am able to administer a stronger version but you will need to spend the next three days in here."
The exams finally arrived after another few weeks, the first exam being Magical Theory which needed to be passed or else the year would be repeated. The other essential subjects to pass the year are; Transfiguration, Potions, Charms, Herbology and Defense against the Dark Arts.
The rest of the subjects were not essential to pass the year but would affect your ability to select the classes as electives in the third year or higher. The secondary subject exams that first-year students had were as follows; History of Magic, Duelling Etiquette and Care of Magical Creatures.
There were 2 exams for each of the core subjects consisting of a 2 hour written test before a practical test where you will be instructed by the teacher who taught you. The other subjects only had one exam and were easier than the core subject exams only taking a single hour to complete.
All the exams were no problem for most of Slytherin house as they grew up being taught these basic lessons by their family and if they had shown enough talent they would have been tutored in harder subjects. The second group of students who breezed through the exams were those who were studious and took plentiful notes, those mostly consisted of students from Ravenclaw and Miss Granger.
The third group who had an easy time were also the most plentiful, the group was made up of those who didn't take notes but had the funds or connections to get the notes from either friends or Slytherin house. They would acquire the notes from their sources before studying hard for a few days ending up fine in the end.
Harry and Ron belonged to this group since Hermione was kind enough to share her copious notes with them. Once the exams had ended and the 1st to 3rd years were freed from the prospects of important exams at least for another year, the stage of the final confrontation was set.
Grace, Daphne and I were relaxing after finishing our final exam by enjoying the shade under a tree which was close to the black lake, we were enjoying the cooling wind which seemed to continuously waft off of it. Quickened steps broke us from our relaxation when Harry, Hermione and Ron came rushing over to us before Harry spoke, "Grace, do you remember what Hagrid said about how he got the dragon egg?"
"He said he won it from a person at the pub from what I remembered," Grace answered causing Harry to gain a look of enlightenment, "That's it." His exclamation was followed by him turning and facing the other two before continuing, "Don't you find it strange that what Hagrid wants most is a dragon egg and someone just so happens to enter a pub and have one in his pocket."
The enlightened look spread across the other two's faces before it spread to Grace's and she decided to share with the rest, "So you are saying someone deliberately gave the egg to Hagrid. We need to ask what he remembers about the person." She stood up and started to march her way to Hagrid's hut flanked by everyone else.
Outside his house, Hagrid was dedusting his large unicorn hair rug with a large beater bat, when he saw us coming he paused his beating to say, "What you lot doing here thought you would enjoy this time to relax?"
