Chapter 39: Chapter 39: Hospital Visit
Erik POV
It was the morning after our outing to the Forbidden Forest and Daphne and I were walking towards the Great Hall to have breakfast before heading to the infirmary to visit Grace. We had barely entered the hall before Dumbledore stood from his throne-like chair to address the gathered students, "I have an important announcement to make, three students were attacked during their detentions last night by an unknown assailant. Classes today will be cancelled due to the teachers searching in and around the Forbidden Forest for the attacker, for your safety we ask you to stay inside the school for the duration of the search."
The hall broke into furious whispers as they quickly tried to figure out who was injured and the extent of the injuries if anyone knew. Before long most senior teachers left, leaving behind the newer teachers including Quirrell.
Having just gained a free day, Daphne looked even more excited to spend time in the Hospital wing as she plated a small portion of eggs and 2 slices of toast. "Daph, I do not know why you are rushing as Madam Pomfrey will not allow the riffraff into her ward," I said while plating up a nice plate of sausages, eggs, black pudding, baked beans and bacon.
"It's not that I just want to know what or who hurt our friend. I am also going to tease her for getting hit." She smiled as she quickly finished her breakfast before looking towards my stacked plate. The look she gave me was the one she gave when she was unimpressed but knowing that I would not rush my food so that she could ask questions which would receive the same answers no matter when she asked them, she got herself another portion to fill her till lunch.
"I am telling you Daph, Pomfrey will let no one but close friends or family inside," I stated while being dragged behind Daphne who was rushing towards the medical wing. She snorted at my statement not denying the truth in my words but laughing at the fact I wanted to stall her teasing of Grace even longer than I had with breakfast.
When we reached the doors to the hospital wing, we found that I had been spot on as Madam Pomfrey was denying entry to a bunch of people. Waiting for our turn in the queue, we saw that she would ask who they were here to visit and if someone tried to fake an illness or injury she would show how handy she was at casting hexes. When we were the only ones there she turned towards us, "Who are you here to visit?"
"We are here to visit Grace Potter, Madam Pomfrey," I said in a respectful tone showing how much I respect what she does since she singlehandedly handles all the injuries and diseases that happen in the school during the year. "Names?" She asked in a curt tone before heading off behind the door when she received her answer.
It wasn't long before she returned and let us into the room to see Grace, she led us to 3 beds at the back of the hall where Grace, Harry and Ron were all chatting while forced to be in bed. When Grace saw Daphne and me her face split into a large smile, "You came to visit so early, are you skipping class to visit me?" She asked while we pulled up two chairs and sat in them.
"I am sorry to burst your bubble but classes were cancelled due to the teachers looking for your attacker. I will even rub it in more since we took our sweet time to eat a nice breakfast before coming here." I said while making myself comfortable in the chair, the pout that my comment caused was impressive.
"So Grace, tell us what happened," Daphne asked impatiently breaking the small silence that occurred from what I said, "Well... We were walking along while talking before we found a large amount of spilt unicorn blood, it led towards a clearing ahead of us but as we approached a unicorn's pained whine blared from it."
She took a moment to pause as she moistened her lips before continuing, "The three of us rushed towards the clearing and found a black mass slivering along the ground towards the poor unicorn. When Harry and Ron cast some spells at it to scare it off, the thing casually dealt with them before standing and looking at us. It was a person, someone who I recognised by his high-pitched laugh."
It was at this point that Harry interrupted her flow to ask a question, "I don't remember any laughing, are you sure you heard laughing?" This question made Grace look towards him before replying in a tone which suggested she was not happy with being interrupted, "It occurred as your arm was broken and you passed out due to the pain. I mean which quote-unquote "Stronger Twin" simply passes out while in danger?"
Before the sibling argument could progress further Daphne butted in with, "So who was it? The person with the high-pitched laugh?" A grimace passed across Grace's face when reminded of the laugh before she leaned into the two of Daphne and me while dropping her voice to a whisper, "Now this is going to sound unbelievable or scary but please be discrete. The last time I heard that high-pitched laugh was when Vold-e-no-nose attacked when we were children."
"Vold..." Daphne gasped out under her breath as she quickly put the information together, "Him? How could that be possible?"
