Chapter 38: Task
Early in the morning, at the rising of the sun, Adaceus walked through the busy morning crowd, squeezing though the city streets that were filled with people that are starting their morning endeavors. There were clusters of lively activities all around him, and he struggled in escaping the walls of people, but eventually he did, going out unto a relatively empty street and ran in a hurried pace, with a box clutched in his hands.
He continued to run, until he reached his destination, which was the train station
A building was situated atop an elevated platform and a flight of stairs for it to be reachable. It was a simple building, the teller area, it was designated, and it was overshadowed by a monumentally bigger building behind it, which was the train station itself. It's body glimmered a sliver color, and it was shaped much like an arch like building, with massive glass panes as its roofing.
The reason for him to be here was because he was going to go to the Aferax Academy, where Hainan's eldest child, Leanor, attended, and he had to deliver a package of some kind that the contents of which he had no idea of. He hurriedly ran through here as he was late to the assigned morning train, and as he stared at the building he felt a sense of relief.
Suddenly a man came out of the building, wearing what seemed to be that places uniform, and he took a horn and blew on it, sending out a booming sound, and it snuffed whatever relief Adaceus felt.
The teller announced that the morning train has departed and another one will come in the next hour, and Adaceus cursed under his breath, he missed the train.
"Dammit."
He could do nothing but hand his head low, sighing in frustration. He stood there for several a minutes, walking back and forth and rubbing his head trying to find another way to get to the academy. He could wait the hour, but he couldn't be late to this.
With a deep breath and a gaze at the sky, he decided to do something.
"I guess I have no choice, might as well give it a try, trains make me nauseous anyway."
And Adaceus went to get prepared, going into anywhere that had cover and enchanted his body with magical circles, conjuring a myriad of spells unto his very body.
Circles appeared simultaneously, causing the following spells to shroud his body:
"Invisible Lining." "Swift Speed." "Feather Fall."
Each and every spell shone his body with light, and immediately his body started to become see-through and invisible, and he felt himself lighter than usual, and in that instance he jumped up with a lightness that he almost seemed like he was floating, landing on a rooftop before jumping again in the sky.
He floated like a balloon through the sky, before landing ever so slowly unto a spired building with a soundless step. He was going to go to the academy by himself, and this is how he was going to go about it. He continued on, and he decided to speed things up, coursing aura through his legs, and propelled himself through the air with a burst of energy that lunged him in a fast speed.
Striding in the air, he soon took sight of a large structure. It was the Aferax Academy, the most prestigious institute of learning in the city of Prahu.
He carefully went down, still invisible by his own spells and ran toward cover, which was one of the trees in a grove just outside the gates, and he cancelled his invisibility and his other spells before going out. He stepped onto the paved road and went towards the gate. The guards that were on each side, and there stopped him and requested for identification. He was used to this now after his frequent visits here, so he already had it in hand, and after the guards approved of it, he was finally allowed to go inside.
Adaceus stepped into the academy itself. He proceeded unto a pathway with gardens at each side, filled with colorful flowers. The building itself was a massive one, able to house thousands of students, and was made of a whit and gold material. He proceeded on to a flight of steps that directly lead to the main hall of the academy.
He reached the front of a deep dark brown door and knocked at it with somewhat loud tapping. He then heard a clamor within, which from his guess was items being knocked down, and he even heard a muffled 'ow'. Soon he even heard more clamoring inside, before hearing the doorknob crack and the door open.
"U-um, who is it?" Someone said, revealing himself to Adaceus. It was a young man, disheveled with messy blue hair and deep dark bags under his eyes, and he was timidly standing there, staring at him.
"Hello, master Leanor, have you been well?"
It was Leanor, the eldest of the Blaidhund household.
"Oh, Ada, its you," he said.
"Are you alright master Leanor?"
"I-I'm fine, Ada, I've just been... very busy, uh, what are you doing here?"
"Your father asked me to come deliver you this," and he handed him a box.
"Ah, right, I forgot about this, uhm," he turned his head from side to side, "Come inside."
And Adaceus went in, and he was greeted to a mess of a room. There was clutter of mechanical parts spread out everywhere, screws bolts and pieces of metal just lying there on the ground, and pieces of paper that were blueprints to something, Adaceus could only consider this very much like him. That's because Leanor had a mind of a prodigy, gifted with a mind for knowledge. He specialized in all areas of academics, thriving in each subject that he took himself in with a level of mastery, with a special specialization and captivation to mana machines in particular, and from the clutter of this room that further emphasized it, maybe.
"This room is a mess, master Leanor," and in instinct Adaceus slowly went to work in cleaning.
"I-I'm sorry about that, Ada, I just don't have time for cleaning, not right now," Leanor walked toward a table situated in the corner of the room, and placed the box on it.
In a flash Adaceus completed the cleaning instantly, each corner spotless of previous litter, and his bed was even made. It went by in an instant, and Leanor's eyes widened like saucers.
"Please, master Leanor, a young man shouldn't be acting like this, especially one like you."
"U-um, right, I'll try to, I-I promise."
And he stared stupefied at him.
"Aren't you going to open you package?"
"O-oh, right, of course."
And Leanor fixed the glasses on his face, and turned his attention in opening the box. He took out a strange looking item, and upon observing it his face lit up in joy.
"Yes, I finally have it!"
"What is it, master Leanor?"
He turned to Adaceus, a happy expression in his face, "This is a node, Ada, a devise that is capable of a powerful amount of energy, here I'll show you what it does."
Adaceus complied with a bow, making Leanor grimace a bit. He stood closer to the table, and saw that Leanor had took a rectangle of metal, with what he could only describe as sigils of some kind. He took the thing called a node up, and there were multiple of these things, four in total, and he clipped them in the base until all four of them were on the metal.
He opened the drawer below the table and grabbed something from it, "This is the final piece." And it was a bulb. He placed it in the middle hole of the metal plate, screwing it in a circular motion. The nodes instantly lit up with a blue light and it spread throughout the sigils like blood to veins, where each direction they reached toward the center to the bulb. The bulb lit up. and it was a bright whit light that lit up a good portion of the room, and it even had them turning away from how bright it was.
Leanor quickly turned it off, stopping the ligt.
"So what exactly does it do? Master Lenaor."
"The nodes basically act as a battery of sorts, a fuel source, and within these things are a compact energy of mana that is incased in this very node. This metal plate here is installed with a thing called circuit's, its these metal wire's here." And he pointed at the sigil-like things that were on the metal plate. "This allows the transfer of energy possible, it's a fascinating breakthrough, Ada, a new venture of knowledge that I am excited to delve into!"
Adaceus watched as his eyes darted around excitement, glimmering a great, invigorating excitement that his previous haggard state was long gone, like a butterfly escaping out of its cocoon. He didn't understand two shakes of what he was talking about and explained to him, not that he was stupid, he considered himself quite learned, its just that in this particular subject of machines he found himself unbelievably sick, to the point of nausea.
"Well, its seems my job is done here, master Leanor," Adaceus said, trying to hold his stomach together.
"O-oh, right," Leanor said, escaping briefly from his jolly mood, "Thank you, Ada."
And they both bid their farewell.
