Gangster Hybrid

Chapter 6: Moonlit Training

His father said, "Since you weren't training while we were gone, why don't we spar?" Draven started sweating nervously. His mother, noticing his reaction, said, trying to lighten the mood with a smile, "I would also like to spar with you."

They can't help themselves when it comes to training their kid, Draven thought. The three of them walked into the castle's training room. A few minutes later, they were in the training room. His father said, "Come at me. Let me see if you've improved."

This old man just wants to beat me up, Draven thought. He ran towards his father, landing the first hit, but it was blocked. His father thought, He's way stronger than before. His father smiled and said, "Is that all you've got?"

"I'm just getting started, old man," Draven retorted, throwing hit after hit. His father simply blocked and dodged. I still can't land a hit on him, Draven thought. His father threw a punch, which Draven barely dodged. His father was surprised. He dodged it. He isn't slacking off after all. They continued fighting for a few hours of bone-breaking and regenerating.

Draven lay on the floor, trying to catch his breath, covered in blood and sweat. He said to his father, "Are you trying to kill your only child, old man?"

His father smiled. "You're my son. You're not going to die that easily."

"Even so, it still hurts like hell," Draven groaned.

His father said, "Your mother has been waiting for you. You better not keep her waiting any longer."

Draven stood up, thinking, I better go before she comes to find me herself, and left the training room. He went to the forest near the castle where his mother was waiting.

His mother emerged from the shadows using shadow magic. "You took so long," she said. "I thought you weren't coming."

"Sorry," Draven said. "The old man wouldn't stop breaking my bones. If I couldn't regenerate, I'd be dead already."

His mother looked at him with a slightly sad expression. "We might be tough on you, but since you don't have any magic, this is the only way you can protect yourself."

She looks sad, Draven thought. Maybe I should tell her I can use magic… No! If I do that, I'll have to train even harder! He smiled. I still want to live an easy life. He said to his mom, "I will train even harder."

His mother smiled back. "Okay, let's start your training. I'm going to give you a head start." Draven jumped up, leaping from tree to tree, his white hair shining in the moonlight. Soon after, his mother moved as well, she was so fast it was like she disappeared. Draven was still jumping when his mother reappeared beside him. He was so shocked that he fell from the tree.

His mother landed gracefully beside him, looking down. He looked up at her, her white hair glowing in the moonlight. She offered him her hand. He took it and stood up.

"You were distracted and lost focus," she said. "That's why you fell. Next time, don't get distracted." She added, "That's all for today. We should head back to the castle."

They moved through the trees, leaping from branch to branch. Draven could barely keep up with his mother. They reached the castle a few minutes later. Draven left his mother and went to his room. He called for a maid to prepare a bath for him and to bring him food after he finished. After bathing, there was a knock at his door. The maid entered. "Young Master, here is your food," she said and left. After she left, Draven ate and went to sleep.
