Chapter 7: A Boy's Body, a Warrior's Spirit
Five years later, we find Draven in his room, asleep on his bed. He slowly opened his red eyes and sat up. I'm going to turn fifteen in a few days, and I still look like I'm five years old, he thought, a hint of frustration in his voice. He stood up, opened his door, and walked out.
A while later, he reached the training room and saw his father. "You took long enough," his father said.
"It's still early," Draven retorted.
"The early bird gets the worm," his father replied. "Now, let's begin." He took off his shirt, revealing the toned physique of a grown man. Draven also removed his shirt, revealing the surprisingly muscular body of what still appeared to be a five-year-old, complete with well-defined six-pack abs. He adopted a boxer's stance. His father mirrored him.
Draven moved with surprising speed, appearing beside his father and landing a hit aimed at his side, but it was blocked. He didn't stop, launching a flurry of attacks, all of which were blocked or dodged. I've never landed a clean hit on my old man once. How strong is he? he thought.
His father attempted a strike, but Draven blocked it. His father smiled. He can take my hits without breaking any bones now. They continued sparring for a while until Draven was visibly trying to catch his breath.
"That's all for today," his father said. "Go freshen up and come to breakfast."
Draven walked out of the training room and went to his room. He took a bath and then put on his clothes. He headed to the dining room and found his parents already eating. He sat down and began to eat as well.
His father began a conversation. "I think you're strong enough to protect yourself now." He looked at Draven's mother for confirmation.
"I think so as well," she agreed.
I never thought I'd ever stop training, Draven thought.
His mother noticed his expression. "Son, you don't seem happy about it," she said.
"I'm happy," Draven replied. "I'm just surprised."
His mother smiled. "So, you still want to continue training?"
"No," Draven said, smiling nervously. His mother looked slightly saddened by this response but quickly recovered, smiling again. "Your birthday is coming up soon! I've invited your grandmother and uncle."
His father added, "My brother is coming as well.
I never knew I had uncles or a grandmother, Draven thought.
They continued eating. After finishing, Draven got up. As he walked out, he said to his parents, "I'll be in the library if you need me."
He soon reached the library and picked up a book titled The Holy Hero and the Demon Lord. Is this some kind of fairy tale? he thought. I can't believe there's a freak going around calling himself a hero. He opened the book and began to read.
