Chapter 10: Chapter 9 'The Big Step (2)'

The Big Step (2)

Mutation Pieces

And those pieces were—

Queen, Bishop, and a Knight.

(A/N: Congrats Ddraig_Detta for the guess!)

I glanced at Ajuka. He studied my pieces with a small, knowing smile.

"Three mutations… that's pretty rare."

I nodded. I knew about Mutation Pieces, but I still asked—

"Anything I should know?"

"Not really. What you've studied from books should be enough. But remember, just because Mutation Pieces are rare doesn't always mean they're good."

"How's that?" I frowned. "The textbooks always say it's an advantage."

Ajuka responded as soon as I finished speaking. "Let me put it in simpler terms—have you played that human game, Pokémon?"

I blinked, then nodded. Pokémon existed in this world too, though only up to Gen 3 had been released so far. I had seen a DevilTube video reviewing human games, and the moment I heard Pokémon, I asked my maid to get it for me.

Of course, I had already completed all the games.

"Good. Then think of Mutation Pieces like Master Balls. Would you use a Master Ball to catch a random Pokémon on Route 1?"

Oh. That made perfect sense.

"I get it now."

Ajuka smirked, mirroring my own. "Good." Then, out of nowhere, he asked,

"So, what's your favorite Pokémon?"

Wha—!?

Ajuka motherfreaking Beelzebub just asked me my favorite Pokémon.

"Charizard. Yours?"

"A fake dragon, huh?" he scoffed. "Mine's Dragonite."

Fake? Does he not know about Mega Evolutions? Oh, right. He's stuck in Gen 3.

"Charizard stomps anyway," I said casually.

Ajuka turned and glared at me.

Oh shi—

Two Hours Later

Now, I was in Ajuka's lab, discussing all kinds of topics with him. The guy was weird—talking to a six-year-old like I was an adult. Our conversations spanned from magic theory to mathematical principles.

"I should get going now, Lord Beelzebub."

Ajuka nodded and stretched his palm. A book materialized on top of it.

No magic circles. No chants. No gestures.

The book just appeared.

'How the hell does he do that?'

I didn't even bother thinking about the full extent of his powers. It would just give me a headache.

He handed me the book. The black leather cover had bold white letters that read—

Magic and Spells: A Guide.

It looked simply, but I could feel the raw demonic power radiating from it. And it was familiar. How could it not be, when the creator was standing right in front of me?

Ajuka smirked. "I wrote that when I was still basically a teenager."

I deadpanned. "So, you were 150?"

Ajuka shook his head. "170."

"Yeah, just a teenager," I snorted. He chuckled.

"See you at the banquet tonight, Vael."

[Teleportation Magic]

A purple magic circle formed beneath me.

"Be sure to bring a great gift, Lord Beelzebub," I smirked.

Ajuka grinned as I vanished in a flash of light.

---

I found myself standing in a grand living room, sunlight streaming through towering arched windows that cast golden hues across the crimson carpet. The scent of aged wood and rich fabric filled the air as I walked past lavish cream-colored sofas and an ornate marble fireplace. Above me, an intricate ceiling framed a massive iron chandelier.

Well, I live in a castle.

In the beautiful sofa, Brisha and Varian sat, their eyes already on me, smiles brightening their faces.

[Storage Magic]

The Evil Piece Box flew from the magic circle, hovering in the air. Open.

I willed it, and the box opened, releasing the floating pieces.

"Mutation Pieces?" Varian asked, his smile widening.

"And there are three of them: Queen, Bishop, and Knight!" Brisha chimed in; her tone filled with excitement.

I carefully placed the floating pieces back into the box.

[Storage Magic]

They disappeared into the magic circle. Both Varian and Brisha stood up as I walked toward them, wrapping my arms around them in a warm hug. They embraced me back, their pride palpable.

"We are proud of you, son."

A smile spread across my face as we sat and chatted for a while. El Cid joined us after some time.

My father also had a Mutation Piece, which he had used on El Cid.

"Let's get ready for the banquet," Brisha said, and we all nodded.

There were still five hours left until the banquet, but since it was such an important event, we needed to start preparations early. My mother and father had to attend some very important meetings, so they left the room.

"Lord Vael, remember, after a month, we have to leave?" El Cid said, his tone serious.

I nodded, my expression stern. I had to leave this safe haven; the place I had grown to call home.

"Yes."

El Cid narrowed his eyes. "Are you ready?"

I nodded again, determination filling me. I was ready. Ready to face the dangers that lay ahead.

"I am."

I am ready.
