Chapter 851: Uriel Sage vs Jon Hunter Part 2
Jon Hunter, the first hunter and a champion of humanity was completely at the mercy of someone who not only was much younger, but also had yet to reach the holy rank yet for some reason Jon could not comprehend he somewhat knew this time would come. The dagger jabbed in his stomach caused a grievous wound that would not heal unless the foreign object was removed, which meant Jon experienced the kind of pain that would make a lesser man wish they would faint. To add insult to injury, life essence seeped out of his body through the blade and he could feel his very life escaping his body.
But that didn't mean he was helpless, only cornered and that made him way more dangerous.
The moment Uriel reached in to kick him, Jon countered with a powerful headbutt and though the damage it caused healed almost on the spot, his goal was achieved as Uriel was sent flying away. Then, with nothing but the sheer pressure of his abdominal muscles Jon dislodged the dagger and grabbed it with his mouth, lunging forward with it like a heat seeker missile ready to make Uriel pay dearly for what he did to him and also to extract the truth out of him.
Uriel tried to escape at first, but despite being wrapped in wire Jon was still able to leap forward using his body like a spring which caused Uriel to eventually realize it was impossible to outrun a holy rank hunter, or at the least it would not be cost efficient and he stored the Red thread of fate to make the weapon vanish from Jon's mouth.
Unbeknownst to Uriel, he just played into Jon's hand because now that the wire vanished he had both hands and legs free to strike however he liked, or so Jon thought. The moment he attempted to hit Uriel on his smug face, the dagger appeared back on the young archaeologist's hand and Jon could not retract his fist in time due to the momentum it carried.
"Bloody hell!" Jon screamed in pain as the crimson dagger severed his hand in half, yet didn't stop the motion and followed the failed strike with a successful one with the other hand. Instead of attempting to dodge, Uriel blocked the fist with his forehead though the power of the fist was almost too much for him to bear.
"Fuck this, I'm done." Uriel growled in annoyance as he summoned his jaguar spirit to escape from Jon. The entity level cryptid's speed was no match for a holy rank hunter, but by sharing a part of his own flux with the jaguar it was allowed to reach a new level of speed rendering Jon incapable of catching up, all the while he received shot after shot from Uriel's magnum. The damage was not enough to disable Jon, but with each flux infused bullet his anger grew until he completely lost it.
Hit and run was a tactic as old as throwing weapons and became more efficient when humans put riding and archery together. The mongols used it, the japanese used it and pretty much every civilization that developed horseback riding at some point in their history. Those were the facts both Uriel and Jon knew, but just because Jon understood it didn't make it any less effective.
"There's a reason why I don't usually activate my trait near other people, but it's time to take the kid gloves off." Jon muttered the last part as though giving a preemptive excuse for his evident losing streak, then proceeded to use his 'on the prowl' skill which caused his entire presence to vanish from Uriel's perspective.
The rest of the people could still see him, that is as long as their eyes were able to catch up with his insurmountable speed. But all of Uriel's senses failed to perceive Jon.
To say it was an incredible skill that gave him the ultimate advantage in single combat would be an understatement as no one who ever experienced his skill ever survived, but it didn't come without a cost as Jon experienced something similar only the complete opposite. Instead of Uriel disappearing from his senses, Jon was only able to perceive him and nothing else.
It was as though his brain's entire focus was locked on solely on Uriel causing Jon to experience the ultimate tunnel vision. Jon could see every movement Uriel performed, he could now hear his breathing and anticipate his movements before Uriel himself knew he was going to make them and Jon should have also been able to smell the emotions reeking through Uriel's sweat, but there was a problem.
Uriel's emotions were just not there. Not a hint of fear despite losing sight of his enemy, not even anxiety leaked out. Jon had no means to know it, but Uriel's trust on his jaguar was absolute.
He knew that friends could turn on against friends and family against family, he had seen it happen. He knew that technology could be unreliable and even weapons designed with but a single purpose were prone to failing, but there was one certainty in his life. That no matter the circumstances, the jaguar would find a way to do his biding and now that Jon could not perceive the feline he unwittingly made things easier for Uriel.
Uriel drew in a calming breath before dissipating his flux energy, he also stored his weapons back inside the museum and then he activated shadow cloak making it difficult even for Jon to spot him. This effect became even more effective when Uriel grabbed the book of the dead and read the contents on the random page he opened.
"Let the souls of the dead come forth."

Dana watched in horror as Uriel stabbed Jon with her being completely incapable to help him despite her godly power. She could not believe a small group of flimsy humans had the gall to stand in her way, but little did she know those flimsy humans had grown accustomed to facing stronger enemies and just like Uriel, they would not budge against ill odds. Not even against a god.
"Stop struggling, you're ruining my shoes!" Nika complained as she was being dragged through the ground while trying to keep Dana in place.
"Anchor yourself with the shadows." Medusa suggested and Nika finally had enough leverage to keep Dana in place.
Luna didn't stop shooting a blinding light directly to Dana's eyes which also helped Nika's shadows to become stronger, yet not even that was enough to keep the desperate goddess from shaking everybody off of her and leaping forward to put an end to the fight.
However, Phlox showed up in the proverbial last second and buffed both Nika and Medusa allowing the first to immediately catch up to Dana and the latter to block her way with an orichalcum shield only meters before reaching Uriel.
"Get out of my way!" Dana shouted with a voice that was painful to hear, then channeled a terrible amount of flux energy throughout her body to intervene.
Moving in a wheelchair made it impossible for Luna to blind Dana in time which allowed her to see the moment Jon activated his 'On the prowl' skill. She saw the flux energy coming out of Jon's body and into Uriel's and thanks to her godly eyes, she knew on the spot what kind of effect it had which gave her some manner of relief. She heaved a sigh thinking Jon was finally safe, but things changed when Uriel took out the book of the dead and spoke the words in the accursed book's page.
That moment Dana felt as though she had been struck by lightning. She was frozen stiff and even the flux she had channeled disappeared on the air as she watched the old book she hadn't seen in millennia.
Dana became cold and composed and she watched in silence how the shadows gathered around Uriel waiting for his command as his eyes became black. Then, Dana shook Nika off like a bug, threw Medusa away with but a flick on her forehead and didn't bother with the tiny huntress who now wheezed as she attempted to follow them on her wheelchair.
"Defeat him." Uriel's flux infused voice echoed in the air and the shadows moved like a tide ready to strike at the unsuspecting Jon who could see nothing but his prey. Just as the souls were about to reach him, all the shadows disappeared with but a flick of Dana's fingers.
Uriel repeated his command and he also tried reading the book once more, yet it was as though the book had lost its power. No shadows emerged from it and the only thing that remained was the shadow in his eyes.
"How did you do that?" Uriel asked in a gasp right after activating Dash. Unsurprisingly, Dana too was able to change the perception of time and she walked in a straight line towards Uriel while the rest of the world remained still.
"That was easy, I'm the one who wrote that book. If you look in the last page you'll find my name." Dana said as Jon approached slowly, but inexorably.
Uriel passed the pages until he reached the last one and just like Dana said, her name was in the book and Uriel could not help but read it out loud.
"Thanatos."
