Chapter 57: Dragons Assemble!
ROAR!!!
The monster let out another guttural blast of sound as it stood fully formed.
Its molten spear clanked against the ground once, a steam-like smoke billowing beneath its feet as it raised its bone-blade arm high.
Drahon gritted his teeth. "Screw it."
He tightened his grip on his Fire Dragon's harness and gave a firm nudge with his leg making the dragon to surge forward.
The boss monster didn't even wait. It arched its massive body back and let out another ground-quaking ROAR!
The force hit like a hammer.
WHOOSH!
Drahon's Fire Dragon flinched, its wings staggering in the sky as the roar shook it. Drahon swayed, his whole body jolting. For a moment, the dragon fell back slightly, refusing to press forward.
"Tch," Drahon cursed, trying to lean in again. "One hell of a Boss Monster."
Ayvira came in next, her Flower Dragon fluttering through the sky like a streak of spring wind, zipping right, dodging left, and managing to fire a beam of golden light at the boss monster's shoulder.
Boom!
It hit, and the monster stumbled.
Ayvira narrowed her eyes, reaching back for another energy javelin, but then...
The monster roared at her.
ROAR!
Louder and more focused.
The wave of force came straight at her, and she grunted as her dragon twisted, barely escaping the full impact. The javelin vanished from her hand.
Drahon watched, a bit tense.
'Even she can't get close?' he thought.
Devon hadn't moved. He was still hovering in the air, his arms crossed, as he simply observed.
Devon's face suddenly became more focused. Then, he said to Drahon,
"We've got to fight this Boss Monster with equal energy."
With that, Devon gazed at his hands, and smoke burst from around him, curling up his back.
Drahon stared intently. He hadn't seen Devon in half-dragon form before, and watching him transform now, he was curious.
Of course, the fusion with his demon had to be considered a half-dragon form. Technically it was, but he had to fuse with his dragon to achieve that. Now, he was really going half-dragon mode.
Dark horns sprouted from Devon's head, not too large, but curved back slightly like his scimitar sword. His skin darkened faintly to a shadowy hue, and his hands grew claws. His armor shifted too, the plates folding in over one another as his form transformed.
Devon was now in half-dragon form.
Ayvira was the only one fighting against the monster now, as Drahon had halted in those brief seconds to watch Devon transform.
She caught a glimpse of the transformation, though, and now Devon flew to help her. She half-watched Drahon, who grunted and nodded, pulling his system open, willing his form forward. Love this story? Show your support on M9VLEMPYR.
[Activating Half Dragon Form…]
His bones shifted, his skin radiating subtly as his back arched. Horns pushed from his forehead, golden and sharp. His arms grew tougher, and his fingers lengthened into claws. Golden scales rippled along his forearms and chest, and a soft glow radiated behind his eyes.
Ayvira followed suit.
Only hers was… different.
The air around her shimmered with soft floral energy. Her skin turned pale gold, but her hair floated around her head like petals in the wind. A small crown of glowing vines twisted around her horns, and her wings, not leathery, but radiant leaves, spread from her back.
Even Drahon stared at her, intrigued.
'She really is a nature-type half-dragon?'
It could make sense because her dragons didn't breathe fire, instead, they brought out light and were delicate in looks.
That meant there were unique types of half-dragons aside from the legendary dragons and the Golden dragons.
At first it was speculation, but now, seeing her in half-dragon form? It was confirmed.
The three half-dragons moved together now, Drahon up front with his Fire Dragon flanking low, Devon moving with dark blur speed, and Ayvira zig-zagging beside them like the wind.
The Boss Monster roared again.
But this time, they didn't stagger.
Instead…
They attacked.
Drahon went first, his SSS-rank sword glowing hot as he came in from the left and slashed at the monster's leg.
Slash!
'Finally, you goddamn monster,' he thought.
While it did stumble from that hit, it did not fall.
Ayvira shot beams from her hand while her dragon cut in with a tail whip, the flower petals from its wings burning like embers.
They were now moving simultaneously, and now, Devon followed, striking from behind. His dragon's claws glowed purple as it cut deep into the monster's back.
The fused goblin shaman snarled and spun, swinging its molten spear.
Drahon blocked with his sword, but it forced him back, the heat sizzling the air around them. The monster leapt, crushing the ground below a bit, then spun again and slammed its bone blade into Ayvira's dragon, sending them both spiraling for a moment.
"You okay?" Drahon asked.
"I'm fine!" she replied, her dragon balancing in the air.
For a moment there, Drahon thought the monster's molten spear had pierced, but fortunately, it hadn't.
The fight kept going.
Claws clashed with armor. Swords clanged against bone.
The battlefield was sky and ground both, and even Devon's shadowy speed wasn't enough to stop all the hits.
They were wearing it down, though. Slowly.
But it wasn't enough.
Drahon ducked a heavy swing, then rolled mid-air and landed beside Ayvira.
They both glanced at Devon, who was breathing heavily now, one shoulder scorched from a molten spear hit.
They exchanged glances.
"Let's all summon at once," Drahon suggested. "We can't defeat this monster like this."
"Agreed," Devon said, flicking ash from his shoulder.
Ayvira didn't speak, but she nodded in the affirmative.
Drahon lifted his hand and then…
From the clouds above, a massive red streak cut through the sky.
His second dragon, the Barbarian Dragon, landed with a boom beside him in the air. Its armored bulk made it look brutal.
Devon summoned his two dragons. Both demon types. One smaller but sleeker, and the other massive and armored with rough wings.
They took their place on either side of him.
Ayvira called hers.
From the skies came the soft shimmer of petals and leaves.
A Sunflower Dragon appeared, golden and glowing, massive petals blooming around its neck like a mane. Its tail flicked and trailed sunbursts in the air.
The three of them stood on a line in the air, each with their dragons beside or behind them.
The monster snarled and backed up slightly, staring at the players and their dragons.
And then, the dragons roared.
They didn't roar all at once. Instead, they followed one after another.
First was Drahon's Barbarian Dragon, its roar like a volcano cracking open. The sound boomed through the sky and hit the boss monster right in the chest, staggering it.
Next, Devon's armored demon dragon stepped forward and roared, its roar darker, vibrating the very air.
Ayvira's Sunflower Dragon followed.
Its roar was not like the others. It was clearer, sharper, like a chime combined with thunder. Light shot from its mouth as it roared, blasting the monster from the side.
The monster tried to shield the attack, but it was too much to suppress.
The impact of the roar sent it to one knee. Its molten spear fell from its hand, thrusting into the ground beside it. Its bone blade arm twitched slightly.
They had it.
Drahon raised his sword, acting like a leader now.
"Let's roar together with all our dragons!"
Devon nodded in the affirmative, and Ayvira did the same, closing her eyes as she placed a hand on her dragon's head.
The boss monster was staggering back to its feet now, breathing hard and growling softly.
It gazed at them furiously and roared again — dashing toward them.
"NOW!" Drahon shouted.
"ROAR!"
Their dragons all opened their mouths.
Massive fire from the Barbarian Dragon.
Same from the Fire Dragon.
Bursts of darkness from the Demon Dragons.
A beam of golden light from the Sunflower Dragon.
A beam of sunlight from the Petal Dragon.
ROAR!!!!!!
They hit the Draconic Goblin Boss monster at once.
