Dragon Game: All My Dragons Are Ranked 'SSS'

Chapter 58: Processing Damage Report...

BOOOOM!

The elemental blast hit the Boss Monster like a hurricane.

Fire. Shadow. Sunlight. Magic.

Thooooom!

All roared forward as one, a wall of draconic energy that seemed to split the sky and lit up the world (metaphorical) beneath it. The very air trembled under the pressure of their combined power, shaking the clouds above and setting the field below ablaze with light.

The monster barely had time to react.

It had just risen to its feet, its molten spear retrieved, its rage focused, before the blast came.

The spear was the first thing to take the hit of the ferocious blast. It shattered into melted pieces as the roaring force collided with it. Then its twisted wings snapped backward, ripped apart by the pressure. The Boss monster, in those fragile seconds, lifted its bone blade arm to shield itself...

But it was of no use.

The fire surged through it.

The darkness carved across it.

The golden light pierced through it like a blade from the heavens.

It screamed.

A horrible, half-gurgled roar that turned into a shriek.

And then… the body began to crack.

Not in pieces, but slowly, gradually, as if the very essence holding the monster together had been undone.

The sore core had been melted!

The molten core boiled and burst open, fire spilling from its chest like lava.

Its knees buckled and its bone-arm split down the middle. One eye exploded in a puff, reducing to steam thereafter.

Smoke went out from its mouth and eyes. Its skin darkened and then crumbled. Cracks spread like a spiderweb across its torso and up its face.

The monster reached forward with one trembling hand, trying to reach the players… as if refusing to fall.

And then...

FWOOSH!

The monster collapsed.

Its form broke apart into large chunks of fading matter, glowing with orange embers before fluttering into ashes, pieces of it turning into glowing specks and drifting away into the air like burnt paper.

A second of silence passed.

The players looked elated seeing the monster fall.

Then the System Interface appeared before all three players at once.

As the system text faded, ash still floated through the air like snow.

Drahon remained silent, watching the slowly withering corpse of the dead Boss monster.

His Fire Dragon's chest still steamed slightly from the effort. Beside him, the Barbarian Dragon let out a final huff of fire, then lowered its head slightly, exhausted but proud (perhaps).

Drahon stroked them both by the head, and they growled softly, happy.

He had forgotten Dragons had emotions. Too many perils had made him forget many things, like trying to remember who the barbarian from level one is.

Perhaps he would try to increase his Bond with his dragons soon.

Devon said nothing either. His Demon Dragon was still hovering, one of its wings flickering with dark mist. His half-dragon form flickered briefly, then stabilized.

Ayvira stared down, her hand still resting on the head of her Sunflower Dragon, whose glow slowly dimmed as the energy quieted.

The battlefield was a grave of shadows and smoke. They had roasted a lot of Draconic goblin monsters just in this short period of time.

A damn lot!

And their corpses were all withering… no, withered, because nothing could be seen of the monster again.

Everything had withered away, meaning they had no proof of their fight.

And now, beneath them, only the cracked field remained - charred grass and the scent of scorched monster flesh lingering in the breeze.

No more enemies came. No more leaping goblins.

No more corrupted roars.

Only the quiet wind.

Ayvira finally broke the silence.

"Finally, we're free!" she shouted, exhilarated.

Drahon exhaled, summoning his sword away.

"Yeah," he said. "We did."

Devon cracked his neck. "That… was fun."

Drahon stared at him and grinned.

"Deadly but fun. Seemed like I was playing some survival, survive-or-die sort of video game."

Devon smiled to that, and now they all unsummoned their dragons, except one each, which they used to ride down.

As they all unmounted, Drahon noticed that something shifted slightly behind Ayvira as she dismounted her dragon.

He squinted his eyes, not because he was trying to stare, but because something caught the corner of his vision. A small flick, like a twitch maybe.

There. Just under the edge of her back, almost hidden completely, was…

Was that… a tail?

It moved slightly, like it had a mind of its own. Small and almost delicate. He blinked, wondering if his eyes were playing tricks.

She turned around, and the movement stopped immediately, suddenly vanishing.

He didn't say anything, but he raised a brow slightly.

A tail?

Dragons had tails, he knew, but he never expected he'd find it on a half-dragon. He and Devon did not have tails when in their half-dragon form though.

Firstly, it was a dragon that didn't breathe out fire but light, and then another. And then, her half-dragon form being more nature-like, and then this?

He looked away, pretending not to notice.

But deep down, he added that as one more thing to the growing list of strange details about Ayvira.
