Chapter 55: Draconic Goblins
"It's one of those shitty players again. I don't get the fuck is wrong with them," a bulky Draconic goblin said, looking at the players in the skies with interest.
"You see," another said. "That's why I said we should not go and rest. You never know who might come to steal the egg again."
Drahon furrowed a brow at the last words.
Steal the egg?
He was very curious at this point and so he exchanged glances with Devon and Ayvira.
"And we just finished killing three players some minutes ago. Time we kill another then."
A fat goblin laughed.
"And what do you know, these players are three too?"
A goblin hit him on the hand as they laughed together, Drahon gazing at them in surprise.
He didn't know monsters in the game could talk.
It was surprising seeing one talking and even laughing.
That would mean that these monsters were higher ranked, not only in power, but intellectually. They possessed a different brain compared to the former monsters the players had faced.
They might be smart, but they were definitely vicious, and maybe ones that would eat the players as lunch.
"They can't get to us now, right?" Drahon asked. "We're high in the sky."
Devon chuckled.
"They have super jump. I think the system scan forgot to include that…"
Thuuuuuu…..D!
Was the sound Drahon heard as one of the Draconic monsters leapt from the ground and grabbed onto the wing of his Dragon.
Drahon was alarmed-
His heart jumped.
"The fuck?!"
The Dragon roared, thrashing mid-air. Its right wing dipped slightly under the goblin's weight. The creature clung tight, its claws digging into the scales, snarling.
Another blur from the ground-
Another Goblin leapt.
This time, toward Devon.
The Demon Dragon reacted faster, shifting midair and letting the goblin barely miss, sending it spiraling back down, crashing into the ground with a loud thud. Dust rose where it landed.
But they weren't done.
Ayvira's eyes widened. "There's more coming!"
From below, four more Draconic Goblins leapt up in waves, moving in unnatural, spiraling arcs through the air.
"They're aiming for our dragons!" she shouted.
"Devon, idea?" Drahon asked quickly.
"Yeah," Devon replied calmly. "Shake them off or kill them midair."
'Helpful (I guess).'
Drahon cursed under his breath. He reached for his sword and turned his body sideways, crawling toward the goblin still clinging to his Fire Dragon's wing.
The goblin noticed. It bared its sharp, crooked teeth and hissed, then it lunged.
Drahon reacted on instinct, immediately summoning his sword-
[Draconic Blade – Active!]
He slashed forward and his blade tore across the goblin's side, but the creature didn't fall. It took the hit like it was nothing, its claws swiping back.
He blocked it with his armguard, but the force knocked him sideways across the dragon's back.
Another goblin landed on Ayvira's dragon now, grabbing one of its wing joints.
She gasped slightly, trying to summon her sword, but it was too late.
The goblin slashed its claws across her dragon's flank, and the peaceful-looking dragon shuddered midair. It tilted sharply.
Ayvira almost fell.
The thing was, they couldn't just go down and fight the monsters from that angle, that would be harder. If the monsters could leap like Hulk and get the players from this high angle, what if they were downwards?
"Damn it!" Devon growled, slightly furious now.
His Demon Dragon twisted midair and dove downward. He zipped past Drahon and Ayvira, blades of shadow forming along his arms. He lunged off his dragon's back mid-flight, cutting through the air like a missile.
He slammed straight into the goblin with Ayvira, tearing it off with one slash and letting it fall to the earth.
"Fuck you monsters," Devon said, flipping in the air and landing back on his dragon with practiced ease.
Ayvira blinked. "...Thanks."
Meanwhile, Drahon still had his goblin opponent right in front of him. It crawled closer, grinning, then lashed forward with a guttural snarl.
But Drahon was ready.
He gripped the dragon's harness, spun forward and drove his blade into the goblin's neck. The monster jerked, then slipped backward, falling down like a zombie.
A red notification pinged in his vision:
>[You have slain a Level 8 Draconic Goblin]
[EXP +42 | Essence Absorption Available]
No time to process his stats. More were leaping.
On the ground, goblins were charging up again, snarling and barking in some kind of rough language.
"They're relentless," Drahon muttered, checking the field below.
That's when he saw it again—
The tower.
It stood tall and old, its dark grey stones cracked in places from age. Some of the bricks had fallen off, and plants had started to grow in the gaps.
The top looked broken, with only part of its roof still intact. A narrow, arched entrance sat at the base, slightly tilted from a weak foundation.
There were no windows, except for a few small holes near the top, probably once meant for light or air. The whole structure looked abandoned, quiet, empty, and forgotten. FindthetranslationonMV&LEMPYR.
Drahon squinted his eyes as he stared at the tower.
What if…
Just what if one of the mythical eggs was in the tower?
Think about it, might be the reason the goblins were on guard, collective and desperate to get him down.
Even though the Rune Guide had told him to find five eggs before the supposed villain did, he wasn't told the types of the eggs.
Perhaps if he was told, he could do a scan?
But it was an egg, he wasn't sure his system could scan stuff like that.
He could only find out… if he survived fighting these monsters.
They were more aggressive now, multiplying in numbers as they leapt. Drahon began to wonder if they were just warping into reality from thin air.
"They must not get to the tower, kill them all!"
"They must not get to the tower, kill them all!"
Drahon peered down, dodging three Draconic goblins who leapt at him.
A Draconic monster with a large axe had said that:
'They must not get to the tower, kill them all!'
They were getting desperate with each passing second.
"Ahhhhh!"
The Draconic goblin roared as it leapt at him, it's large axe raised...
