Chapter 54: Summoning Dragons once again
"So what do we do now?" Drahon asked after a long silence.
"We keep moving," Ayvira said. "There's still a wide stretch of land left to cover. The corrupted aura's faded, so this area is safe now."
Devon looked up lazily, as if he was just remembering something. "Safe is temporary here but well, with our Dragons, we should be doing this with ease. On foot, this journey might take about two days, plus us taking wrong turns and all that, but with our Dragons, we should be out of this cursed field in just two hours."
Ayvira's eyes flickered faintly, a subtle system scan activating.
Drahon glanced at her. "You're scanning?"
She nodded. "Yeah. Just to be sure. The last fight was chaotic. Doesn't hurt to be cautious."
After a few seconds, her expression changed a bit.
"I'm picking up multiple life signatures," she said. "Not nearby… but up ahead. Probably monsters. Maybe thirty or more of them."
Drahon blinked. "Thirty?"
Ayvira turned to face them both. "They're spread out in small squads, maybe guarding something. Draconic Goblins."
Devon made a face. "It was expected."
Ayvira went on. "They're not moving right now. Probably waiting for something, or someone."
"Waiting for what exactly?" Drahon asked.
Ayvira shrugged. "Us, maybe. Or maybe they're just dumb goblins stuck in a patrol loop."
Devon cracked his neck, turning toward the horizon. "Either way, we don't walk into a nest blind."
"Agreed," Ayvira said. "Scan for yourself, both of you. Pull up their monster data."
Drahon didn't hesitate. He blinked, willing his system interface to activate. In less than a second, the profile loaded.

Drahon raised a brow. "Goblin Shaman. Sounds like a pain."
"The system says we should fight the Boss monster first. Who's it kidding? A Boss monster is usually the last thing to face in this kind of situation," Devon said.
Ayvira ended her scan. "We should avoid them if we can. Fighting them is a risk. But if it resorts to that, we handle it fast."
Drahon and Ayvira, once brutally injured, now looked perfectly fine. It was thanks to the essence they absorbed from the monsters, it had slowly healed them.
Without needing further prompting, at least the other two players at this point ought to know the next move, Drahon summoned his Fire Dragon. He decided he would use the barbarian one when a really tough battle was to happen.
A single thought and…
A searing burst of fire cracked into the ground in front of him, the ground beneath scorching slightly as a massive Fire Dragon emerged from the blaze, coiled and powerful. Its wings spread, casting a shadow over the three of them. Glowing lines of molten color ran between its scales. The heat coming off it was instant and dangerous. Devon took a step back, not in fear but amusement.
"That was surprisingly dramatic," he said. "Wasn't it supposed to just come out of thin air?"
Devon casually snapped his fingers and then, shadows burst around him.
From the black mist came his dragon, a massive Demon Dragon, its scales rough and jagged, its wings torn at the edges, but wide and powerful. Its eyes were hollow red slits.
Ayvira noticed it was her turn and so, she quietly closed her eyes as petals began to fall, not from the sky, but from thin air.
Glowing pale-pink petals drifted slowly in a breeze that wasn't actually there. From the heart of it came her dragon. It was slender, elegant, and strange. It looked… peaceful. The scales were soft-toned, almost like flower petals themselves. It was shaped more like a mythical spirit beast than a full dragon.
Its eyes were large and clear, its wings light and curved.
Drahon stared at the dragon in surprise.
If Ayvira's dragon was this unique and different then so was she herself.
Ayvira now climbed onto her dragon's back. Drahon did the same with his Fire Dragon, gripping the dragon's harness by it. Devon hopped up onto his Demon Dragon with ease, looking like he'd done it a thousand times.
From above, the view of the expanse was clearer.
The land stretched far, and sure enough, far in the distance, smoke trails rose lightly in specific spots.
And so they launched.
Drahon's dragon flapped hard, the ground cracked below as they took off with a roar. Devon's mount glided with unnatural grace, soaring like a shadow. Ayvira's dragon barely made a sound as it zipped ahead, flower petals trailing behind it like sparks.
They flew low, scanning the field, then they flew higher and sometimes lower.
They zoomed and sometimes rode at a normal speed until an hour passed.
Soaring high in the skies felt so good and Drahon relished as the wind hit him in the face.
They continued in this speed for an hour and a half, until they finally saw the Draconic Goblins, which made them halt in the sky.
The dragons flapped so they would still be there as the players looked at the Draconic Goblins.
The Draconic Goblins stood below, their rough, scaled skin dark green with patches of black. They were stocky and wide-shouldered, with sharp claws and short horns sticking from their heads. Their eyes glowed orange, and steam puffed out of their mouths with each breath.
Most of them carried stone weapons, thick clubs or jagged spears. Some had torn wings on their backs, clearly too damaged for flight. Others had strange dark marks on their chests, almost like they were branded.
They didn't move like wild beasts. They were alert, watching and listening. One of them raised its head toward the sky, letting out a rough growl as it spotted the dragons above.
The rest followed, their hands tightening around their weapons.
Devon and Ayvira were alarmed, but Drahon actually wasn't, his eyes were more focused on the black tower looming behind the Draconic Goblins.
