Douluo Dalu 3: Purple-Gold Dragon God

Chapter 84: Chapter 84: Battle Against Wu Zhangkong!

"Don't let me find out who he is, or I swear, he's finished!" Xu Xiaoyu said through gritted teeth, his face dark as iron.

But in his mind, the figure flashed again — that calm face, those indifferent eyes, the fierce words, and the terrifying strength of that single punch that had killed him outright. Xu Xiaoyu shivered despite himself. Just who was that guy? Even now, his heart was still full of confusion and unease.

"Crazy old man, it's early morning! Just spit it out already!" Cai Yue'er crossed her arms, frowning. Zhuo Shi was rambling excitedly, muttering, "Contacted… contacted!"

"I got through to Zhangkong — he answered my call!" Zhuo Shi laughed heartily.

Zhangkong? Could it be Wu Zhangkong? Cai Yue'er's heart stirred. Of course she knew about that matter… The child who had fallen in love with an evil soul master, and ultimately failed.

Yun Ming quietly appeared. "That kid left a deep impression on me too. Where is he now?"

"It's thanks to Gu You — your dear godson. He persuaded Zhangkong!" Zhuo Shi mentally enlarged Gu You's image by ten times. From what Wu Zhangkong had said, that kid was truly remarkable.

Gu You… Cai Yue'er fell silent. Why was everyone mentioning that name lately? She hadn't even met the Pavilion Master's godson yet.

"It's good we've made contact. They should be in Eastsea now — Gu You is there too. We'll have to properly compensate that child in the future," Yun Ming said with a light smile. Being able to interact with the old generation like this, to see the rare moments when they smiled, almost made him feel decades younger.

The next day at noon, Gu You was abruptly woken up by Wu Zhangkong. At first, Gu You was at a loss. Wasn't the teacher supposed to be overseeing the students' final exams? Why was he coming to find him? He hadn't even had time to properly train yet — just lazing around and lowering his own image in front of his teacher.

"Teacher Wu… uh, is there something you need?" Gu You asked curiously.

"Fight me. I will suppress my power to the peak of five rings. If you can defeat me, you pass the final exam," Wu Zhangkong said coldly. After what he'd learned from Zhuo Shi about Gu You, he finally understood just how monstrous this child was.

"Huh? Sure," Gu You agreed simply. Wu Zhangkong's combat experience was extremely deep — facing him as a three-ring soul master without using divine power would indeed be excellent training.

"Follow me."

Gu You followed Wu Zhangkong straight to the academy's training hall.

This was where students practiced their soul skills and combat, outfitted with protective soul barriers to prevent destruction.

"Gu You!" Xie Xie ran up excitedly. This student-versus-teacher battle was bound to go down in "legend" — the five of them couldn't miss it. Wu Zhangkong had already told them to watch carefully: a showdown between raw talent and refined cultivation — who would come out on top?

Wu Zhangkong found the supervising teacher and reserved one of the training rooms.

These standard arenas ranged from thirty to fifty meters in diameter, with four different-sized arenas per floor across the hall's three stories, normally used by students from various grades.

Wu Zhangkong chose a third-floor arena, as no other classes were using it, making it very quiet.

Fifty meters in diameter, the arena was spacious. Wu Zhangkong led the six of them inside.

"Teacher! Let's go!" Xie Xie called eagerly.

Neither Wu Zhangkong nor Gu You spoke as they stood facing each other twenty meters apart.

"Begin!" Wu Zhangkong declared. Instantly, rings of soul light rose beneath his feet.

Two yellow, two purple, one black — a powerful wave of soul pressure exploded outward, but Gu You wasn't affected in the slightest.

The protective barrier activated. Xie Xie and the others quickly stepped out of the combat zone to watch.

This was Gu You's personal final exam. After this, the group's second round of exams would come soon. Just that morning, they had fought a team battle against Wu Zhangkong at his suppressed level, and the five of them hadn't stood a chance. Could Gu You do any better?

A pale blue long sword extended from Wu Zhangkong's right hand. His usually icy eyes softened slightly as they focused on the sword — the Tianshuang (Heavenly Frost) Sword.

White robes, blue blade, the chill of heaven's frost!

Gu You's three soul rings rose around him, a terrifying beast aura filling the arena. Even though they'd seen Gu You's hundred-thousand-year soul ring before, Tang Wulin and the others were still awed. Even separated by the protective barrier, they could feel the pressure. Thankfully, Wu Zhangkong had cleared the supervising staff; otherwise, this would've exploded across campus as sensational news.

Dragon might rippled around Gu You, while the Tianshuang Sword shimmered with a layer of white light. A blue sword projection slashed toward Gu You, and Wu Zhangkong's footsteps grew strangely shifting, making his movements dizzying to watch.

'That move again,' Gu You thought grimly. Just like when Wu Zhangkong had faced Xie Xie, you could only defend against one part — you had to take the other hit head-on.

But… in this situation, the best way to break the attack was to strike first!

His first and second soul rings lit up simultaneously — Purple-Gold Destruction Strike! His eyes flashed violet, laced with a rippling destructive aura, combining mental and physical attacks. Wu Zhangkong would have no choice but to take a hit. Now it was a test of who had the stronger body!

Wu Zhangkong understood this perfectly. He hadn't expected Gu You to attack so aggressively. Fine — they'd just exchange damage and see who endured.

He abruptly stopped and activated his third soul ring. Snow and ice gathered, his sword sheathed itself, and then — Heavenfrost Slash!

A blast of icy light enveloped the arena, even breaking apart the mental attack. Gu You's eyes widened in surprise. 'What incredible ice control!'

His hundred-thousand-year soul ring lit up. Gu You couldn't help but wonder — if it had been Wu Zhangkong instead of Moon in that earlier battle, would he really have survived until Yun Ming arrived?

But Gu You still had one more trump card he hadn't revealed. After all, he was a man who wielded the ultimate element of ice! Even if Wu Zhangkong's soul skills contained ice power, innate elemental dominance was absolute — no argument there.

"Dragon God's Wrath!"

Gu You gave a cold snort. Ultimate ice and destructive energy layered together as a dragon-shaped phantom appeared behind him, condensing into a glowing sphere. With a resounding boom, it blasted straight toward Wu Zhangkong.

Heavenfrost Slash was instantly dissolved and absorbed! On the stage, Wu Zhangkong's eyes narrowed sharply — ultimate elemental attribute!

Below, Tang Wulin was completely dumbfounded. 'This… this is Gu You's true strength? Facing a five-ring Soul King like he's just fighting a slightly tougher spirit beast?!'

Wu Zhangkong knew he had lost. But still, his fifth soul ring lit up — a ten-thousand-year soul skill! Maybe, just maybe, there was still a glimmer of hope.

No matter how you looked at it, ordinary ice and snow couldn't compare to ultimate ice. It was like an ant looking up at an elephant — there was no meaning, no matter how hard you worked or how much you struggled. You simply couldn't surpass it.
