Douluo Dalu 3: Purple-Gold Dragon God

Chapter 83: Chapter 83: The End!

The young man's gaze instantly fell on Gu You's group of six. Seeing the dense energy halos surrounding them, his eyes flickered slightly, and then he strode confidently toward them.

"Quit the Spirit Ascension Platform on your own and leave the energy halo behind — that way you won't have to feel pain," the ice staff youth said matter-of-factly.

Tang Wulin narrowed his eyes. "Why should we?" He subtly made a hand signal behind his back to his teammates.

"Because I'm stronger than you—"

"Bullsh—! Where's my spirit beast?!" Gu You shot up explosively, furious. His perfectly good Six-Armed Flame Serpent was just gone! With full force, his dragon claw twisted the surrounding space; the youth had no time to react — even if he wanted to, he was already outside the battlefield.

With a sickening smack, like smashing raw meat, the young man disintegrated, leaving behind a pile of energy.

"Waaah!"

"Ahh~"

Next to him, the little girl burst into tears. Where was her big brother? How had he been taken out in a single punch?!

Xie Xie's eyes were shining — he thought Gu You looked incredibly cool at that moment.

Gu You looked at the girl coldly. "Exit on your own. I don't want to destroy a flower with harsh hands again." His tone was flat and emotionless.

In a flash, the blue-haired girl vanished from the scene.

For the rest of the time, they mostly ran into weak, small-fry spirit masters. They defeated them easily, gathered the energy, and prepared to leave.

"At least thirty — looks like a pack of Flame Demon Lions," Zhang Yangzi, who was on lookout duty, urgently reported.

Hearing that, everyone except Gu You turned pale.

Lions were undoubtedly among the strongest pack-hunting spirit beasts on land. Usually, the stronger a spirit beast's individual strength, the more solitary it was — only lions were the exception, gathering in groups led by an alpha male with multiple lionesses. Together, they dominated forests and grasslands alike. Even beasts far stronger individually wouldn't dare provoke them lightly because their collective combat power was just that overwhelming.

"You all fall back. I'll handle this," Gu You stepped forward.

Gu Yue tried to follow, but he blocked her. "So eager to stick to me?" Gu You gave a faint smile.

"You… Who wants to follow you?!" Gu Yue's face flushed red, and she vanished. The others exchanged glances and disappeared too.

Shaking his head, Gu You strode forward with light, confident steps, charging straight into the lion pack.

The scene was too bloody to describe in detail. Suffice it to say, by the end, Gu You had absorbed all the surviving lions into his spiritual world.

His mindscape was unique — even inside, there was a law of the jungle, but individual spirit beasts wouldn't truly die. Even if they did, he could extract the power from their bodies and revive them.

A tingling sensation swept through his entire body, and Gu You woke up. Wu Zhangkong was already evaluating everyone's scores. Judging from his tone, they hadn't done too well — after all, Gu You had helped them too much. On the surface it looked like Tang Wulin's team had gained, but in reality, they still owed Gu You for his unrevealed request, which he'd call in later.

"Gu You, ninety-nine points!" Wu Zhangkong suddenly called.

Gu You simply nodded. Just from hearing the score, he knew — he had the highest.

On the way back to the academy, everyone was in high spirits. After all, having a thousand-year first soul ring was definitely something to be excited about.

"Teacher…" Tang Wulin looked at Wu Zhangkong, curious about where the Spirit Ascension Platform's energy actually came from.

Wu Zhangkong seemed to read his mind and waved his hand. "You're still too young. There are some things you don't need to know yet. Just remember my words: the Spirit Pagoda isn't as simple as you think. Its power is so great that even the Federation has to tread carefully. And the Spirit Pagoda doesn't only operate here on the Douluo Continent — it has reach on other continents as well."

That evening, in Wu Zhangkong's dorm room.

"Teacher, you wanted to see me?" Gu You stretched lazily and smiled at Wu Zhangkong.

"For the second part of the final exam, you don't need to go," Wu Zhangkong said, looking at him. "Spend a few days training on your own — you'll still get full marks. Bringing you would only hurt their chances."

"Teacher Wu, was I wrong to help them so much in the Spirit Ascension Platform?"

Wu Zhangkong shook his head. "Helping or not helping — both are part of life's opportunities. But, boy, you need to remember: a little adversity never hurt anyone!"

"Heh! I agree with that…" Gu You grinned.

After Gu You left, Wu Zhangkong looked down at the soul communicator on his desk, entered a number he hadn't dialed in a long time…

At Shrek Academy's inner courtyard, Zhuang Shi lay back, gazing lazily at the starry sky. Around him, the Sea God Lake exuded a soft, life-filled aura. But suddenly, the jarring buzz of his soul communicator broke the peace.

Seeing the unknown number, he frowned slightly and answered. But the moment he heard the voice on the other end, he instantly smashed the device, fury surging.

After venting, tears shimmered in Zhuang Shi's eyes. He got up, determined to remember the number, planning to borrow another communicator and call back…

Wu Zhangkong fell silent briefly, then left alone.

"Big brother, don't be mad," Xu Xiaoyan timidly said to her older brother.

Xu Xiaoyu's face was so dark it looked like water might drip from it. How could he not be angry? The family had spent an enormous price to secure two coveted violent-period Spirit Ascension Platform passes to send him and his sister in — and yet, thanks to a moment of carelessness, their journey had ended in total failure.

He could still vividly recall the scene of himself being smashed to a pulp with a single punch. When he woke up, he'd nearly been in a vegetative state.

"That violent-period zone was probably all spirit masters from Eastsea City," Xu Xiaoyu said grimly. "Judging by their age, they're likely students at Eastsea Academy. Could they be… senior students from there?"

Xu Xiaoyan froze slightly, a bit scared. "Really? Then… they'd be my seniors?"

Xu Xiaoyan was naturally gifted, though she didn't much like training. She was born with full innate soul power, but since her older brother Xu Xiaoyu was such an outstanding talent, no one pressured her much.

It wasn't until recently, three years after her martial soul awakening, that the family discovered she'd quietly reached seventeenth rank soul power and even displayed the extremely rare Starwheel phenomenon. Only then did they realize she was an even greater prodigy than Xu Xiaoyu.

The Xu family was one of Eastsea City's top clans. Their father was the city's chief financial officer, a man of significant power and influence. Discovering that his daughter carried the family's legendary martial soul had filled him with joy — he'd pulled every string, spending lavishly to secure two violent-period Spirit Ascension Platform passes to send both son and daughter in, repeatedly instructing Xu Xiaoyu to protect his little sister and help her gather as much spirit energy as possible.

But timid by nature and inexperienced in combat, Xu Xiaoyan had been too scared to act inside the platform, absorbing almost no energy, while Xu Xiaoyu had managed to gather quite a lot.

Just as he'd finally persuaded his sister to help hunt their next spirit beast… they ran into Gu You.

And then — disaster.
