Dimensional Kaguya Ōtsutsuki

Chapter 589: The One I Like

From that day forward, Kurona Yasuhisa and Nashiro Yasuhisa naturally became Kaguya's maids. However, little did Kaguya know that this was the beginning of a series of disasters.

The reason was simple: money.

Kaguya had never been particularly well-off to begin with. She relied on free meals at the Anteiku coffee shop, enduring Touka Kirishima's disdainful glares. If Kaguya showed up with two maids in tow to mooch, Touka might very well throw her out.

Even though this month's salary had already been paid, the apartment was in a state of utter ruin, resembling a post-war battlefield. Nearly all the furniture and appliances were destroyed, leaving even seating arrangements in question. Thankfully, the bed had survived; otherwise, they would have been forced to sleep on the floor.

All of Kaguya's earnings were immediately spent on replacing furniture and appliances. Though the replacements weren't anything fancy, they restored the apartment's original functionality. However, every last coin ended up in the hands of the shopkeeper.

To make matters worse, Kaguya had to endure Nashiro's constant eye-rolls and the occasional comment about how useless their "master" was. It made Kaguya want to spank her, especially considering that none of this misfortune would have happened if it weren't for those two.

Then, Kaguya stumbled upon a surprising discovery.

The rice dumplings she had carefully stored in the refrigerator during the fight hadn't been destroyed after all—they had ended up in the stomachs of the Yasuhisa sisters. This realization deeply pained her.

But that wasn't the most shocking part. The real surprise was that the Yasuhisa sisters could now eat regular human food. It was almost unbelievable.

Ordinarily, ghouls could only consume human flesh and water. Due to their unique biology, any attempt to eat human food would induce extreme nausea, making ghouls repulsed by all other food sources. This biological limitation was nearly universal among ghouls.

Kurona and Nashiro, modified into artificial one-eyed ghouls, should have been no exception. Yet they were now eating regular food without issue. The only explanation Kaguya could think of was that her blood, which she had fed them during their recovery, had caused the change.

Could her blood be the catalyst for this transformation?

As ridiculous as it sounded, it wasn't entirely impossible. Kaguya's body, enhanced by the chakra of her lineage and the sinister nature of her energy, operated under a system of power entirely foreign to this world.

In a way, this was good news. Kaguya had always been repulsed by the idea of eating human flesh. The thought alone was revolting, and she couldn't imagine living with someone who consumed raw, bloody meat regularly without feeling nauseated.

However, this newfound ability also brought problems. With the Yasuhisa sisters now capable of eating regular food, it meant two more mouths to feed. This significantly strained Kaguya's already tight budget.

Determined to make ends meet, Kaguya decided to take on a part-time job to supplement her income. Nashiro had volunteered to help, but Kaguya was worried she might get caught by investigators along the way.

The conclusion was simple: life was hard.

Dragging her weary body and stifling a yawn, Kaguya trudged toward her office.

Yesterday, she had been scheduled for a day off but instead took on a part-time job to earn extra cash. Most opportunities were long-term commitments, so she settled on handing out flyers—a simple gig that paid decently.

Her performance had been exceptional, earning her extra pay. However, it came with an unfortunate side effect: people now frequently lingered where she used to hand out flyers, using it as an excuse to chat her up. They buzzed around her like annoying flies, a constant source of frustration.

A tall, handsome man approached from the other side—it was none other than Kaguya's partner, Koutarou Amon.

"Good morning," Amon greeted her with a smile.

"Good morning," Kaguya replied, a bit awkwardly, forcing a smile in return.

Truth be told, during the operation in the 20th Ward, Amon had teamed up with that infamously reckless lunatic Akira Mado. She had heard from others that Amon's unit had faced fierce combat. By the time reinforcements arrived, he was covered in injuries—most notably, he had been bitten multiple times.

On his rear end.

Kaguya resisted the urge to roll her eyes. Who on earth did this? What kind of person had such peculiar taste to bite someone's butt?

Watching Amon walk with a slight limp, Kaguya couldn't help but pity him. Yet she also wondered maliciously: Did they bite off anything down there?

"You're here, First-Class Liuli."

A familiar voice called from behind her. Turning around, Kaguya saw Akira Mado approaching with a smile.

"Good morning," Kaguya greeted, then raised her eyebrows in surprise. "First-Class?"

"You didn't know yet?" Akira grinned. "Because of your outstanding performance in the recent battle, you've been promoted to First-Class Investigator. Actually, you should have been promoted earlier, but your time with the CCG was too short, and you didn't have enough seniority. That's why it was delayed."

Kaguya couldn't help but draw a mental comparison to a certain bureaucratic system she had heard of—it seemed universal. After all, if a newcomer were immediately promoted to a high position, it was bound to cause resentment among others.

"And you?" Kaguya asked, curious.

"Same as you," Akira replied with a smile. "I got promoted as well, thanks to your help."

"No way," Kaguya said casually. "You earned this through your own efforts. Oh, by the way," she suddenly brightened, "does a promotion to First-Class come with a raise?"

Titles meant nothing to Kaguya, but money was a different matter entirely. After all, her household finances were in dire straits.

"Of course," Akira replied with a small laugh. "Your salary will probably increase by about 30%."

"Thirty?" Kaguya's expression fell. "That's too little."

"You should be thankful," Akira said, pinching Kaguya's cheek with mock irritation. "There's no other rookie who's been promoted as quickly as you."

For some reason, Akira couldn't resist pinching Kaguya's soft, rosy cheeks.

At that moment, Kaguya noticed a group of people approaching from a distance. She didn't pay much attention at first, but when her gaze fell on one of them, her eyes narrowed slightly.

Walking toward them were two figures. One was a grotesque-looking fat man with a face covered in scars and stitching. His ears and nose were missing, as if they had been sliced off, leaving his face unsettlingly flat. His right leg was a prosthetic, and his rotund body was wrapped in a large black trench coat. A hat covered his head, adding to the eerie, terrifying appearance that could send shivers down anyone's spine.

Beside him was a young man with a delicate, almost frail appearance. His short, ear-length hair framed a face so strikingly pretty it seemed almost feminine. A beauty mark sat just beneath his right eye. He was tall and slender, dressed in an oversized trench coat. While calling him "handsome" might not quite fit, the term "charming" seemed more apt—he had the kind of looks that older women might adore in a "soft and gentle" type.

"Who are they? I don't think I've seen them around here before," Kaguya asked curiously.

"Oh, them? They're investigators recently transferred from the 6th Ward. Apparently, they're here to work on a joint operation with our branch, likely involving the Tsukiyama family." Akira Mado turned her head slightly, explaining. "The one on the right is Associate Special-Class Kijima. The one on the left is Nimura Furuta. He's a rookie investigator but was fast-tracked to First-Class due to outstanding performance in school."

"Nimura Furuta," Kaguya murmured, her lips curling into a faint, meaningful smile.

She hadn't expected him to appear here. It seemed her recent activity in the 20th Ward—particularly during the Owl Suppression Operation—had drawn attention.

Moreover, the fact that her blood could enhance ghouls' abilities and even facilitate mutations was becoming increasingly evident. The rumor that she could significantly boost a ghoul's regenerative capabilities and physical strength had likely reached influential ears. Both the Washuu family, who secretly controlled the CCG, and organizations like Aogiri Tree would be eager to investigate further.

For both human and ghoul factions, such a discovery was monumental.

The ability to augment abilities and promote mutation was significant, but the key was her blood's potential to allow ghouls to consume regular food. This capability was revolutionary, as it could enable ghouls to blend seamlessly into human society without relying on human flesh. It would fundamentally alter the power dynamics between humans and ghouls.

Such a development would make Kaguya a pivotal figure in the brewing storm. However, this was precisely her goal. Being at the eye of the storm would draw out every schemer and manipulator, providing her the opportunity to eliminate them all in one fell swoop.

"Hey, hey."

Akira's voice snapped Kaguya out of her thoughts. She turned her head and asked curiously, "What is it?"

"I've been waving my hand in front of your face for a while now, and you didn't react. What's going on?" Akira suddenly smirked with a teasing glint in her eyes. "I never would've guessed your taste was like this."

"What taste?" Kaguya asked, confused.

"I didn't expect you'd be interested in Nimura Furuta, the rookie. That really caught me off guard," Akira said with a grin.

Kaguya's mouth twitched, a wave of inexplicable disgust washing over her. Pinching her nose with a look of utter disdain, she said, "Don't say something so revolting. It's absolutely nauseating. How could I possibly like someone like that? Besides, I don't like men at all."

"Really?" Akira Mado replied, her smile carrying an ambiguous undertone.

"Absolutely not," Kaguya waved her hand dismissively, half-jokingly, "If I were to choose, I'd like someone more like you, Senpai."

"Oh? If you don't mind, I certainly wouldn't have any objections." Akira hooked a finger under Kaguya's chin, her beautiful eyes gleaming playfully as she said with a seductive smile, "My little beauty."

Kaguya froze in place. She had never seen the usually cold and stoic Akira show such an alluring expression. It was like the frost of winter had melted, giving way to the blossoming warmth of spring.

Unable to hold herself back, Kaguya suddenly threw her arms around Akira and leaned in for a kiss.

Akira's stunning eyes widened in shock. She had only meant it as a joke, never expecting Kaguya to take it seriously—let alone act on it. Stunned, she could only stare blankly as Kaguya's beautiful face drew closer and their lips met.

For an instant, a faint fragrance filled Akira's mouth. It felt as though an electric current surged through her body, leaving her momentarily dazed. It wasn't until Kaguya's tongue slipped into her mouth, intertwining with her own in an unfamiliar yet irresistible sensation, that Akira snapped back to her senses. Flustered, she shoved Kaguya away.

Around them, passersby and CCG investigators were dumbfounded, their eyes wide in disbelief. None of them had ever witnessed such a scene—two stunning young women openly sharing a kiss.

It didn't take long for someone to recognize them. One was Akira Mado, a highly skilled investigator known for her sharp intuition and widely regarded as the CCG's second most beautiful officer. The other needed no introduction—Kaguya, hailed as the CCG's number-one beauty.

The crowd erupted into an uproar.

Kaguya's photos had previously been circulated online by some mischief-makers, causing an unprecedented sensation. She had been dubbed "the most beautiful investigator" and even "Japan's number-one beauty," with countless other accolades following. The relentless attention had driven Kaguya to frustration, and she had eventually forced the CCG to scrub most of her information from the internet, finally restoring some peace.

But now, no one could have imagined seeing such an intimate moment. This went far beyond mere friendship. Could it be that they were... one of those legendary yuri couples?

Many onlookers felt their hearts shatter, sighing in despair as they realized they had no chance whatsoever—not that there had ever been much hope to begin with.

Meanwhile, a different group of people were overjoyed, their excitement palpable. Their eyes sparkled like lightbulbs as they reveled in the scene of yuri bliss, unable to get enough of it.

Of course, this group was mostly made up of perverts.
