Dimensional Kaguya Ōtsutsuki

Chapter 590: Unable to Hold Back

In a lavishly decorated and spacious room, two individuals were seated on an exquisitely ornate sofa, seemingly engaged in a conversation.

"The experiment has entered a critical phase, and we've made significant breakthroughs," began a middle-aged man. His hair was cut short on one side, his face sharp and rugged, with a scruffy beard. Yoshitoki Washuu, the Director of the CCG.

"A significant breakthrough?" questioned the man seated opposite him. This was an elderly man with snow-white long hair. Though his gaunt face and frail frame gave him a decrepit appearance, his sharp spirit and stern demeanor were unmistakable. His narrow eyes occasionally flickered with a cold and sinister glint, sending shivers down one's spine.

"Precisely," Yoshitoki leaned forward slightly, speaking respectfully. "After detailed research, we've discovered that the blood sample possesses extraordinary capabilities. Not only can it significantly enhance a ghoul's abilities, but it also promotes mutation among ghouls."

"Mutation?" The elder raised his head, his brows furrowing slightly.

"Yes. After mutation, the ghouls exhibit abilities comparable to those of one-eyed ghouls. Furthermore, they demonstrate unprecedented resilience. If these mutations can be stabilized, I believe they will be a powerful addition to our arsenal," Yoshitoki explained, his tone measured. "However, the danger lies in the instability of the mutations. If this problem cannot be resolved, I fear the consequences could be catastrophic."

The elder's half-closed eyes suddenly opened wide, a sharp gleam flashing within them. In a grave tone, he asked, "Are you certain they are ghouls and not one-eyed ghouls?"

"Indeed, they are ghouls," Yoshitoki confirmed. "The tests show that they lack the characteristics of one-eyed ghouls, though their combat abilities approach that level. Furthermore, I suspect these effects are solely due to the special properties of the blood sample."

For the first time, a noticeable reaction crossed the elder's stern face. He nodded approvingly. "Excellent. You've done well. With this, our plans can proceed smoothly."

"But..." Yoshitoki hesitated for a moment before continuing, "There is one pressing issue."

"Hmm?" The elder's expression returned to calm, his brows knitting slightly. "What issue?"

"The primary blood sample we're using for research is far too scarce to meet the experiment's demands. Moreover," Yoshitoki said gravely, "we've been unable to analyze the sample's components or replicate its effects. If the experiment is to continue, we'll need a large quantity of the original sample."

"Ah, so it's that matter," the elder remarked, casting a glance at him before standing and walking to the window. Gazing out, he said in a deep voice, "I've already made arrangements for this. You need not concern yourself with it. I have someone in mind. When the time comes, all you need to do is cooperate with them."

"Understood."

As Yoshitoki's figure receded into the distance, a faint, unhealthy flush appeared on the elder's haggard face. Staring out at the scenery beyond the window, he murmured, "The plan that has spanned generations is finally within reach."

...

"Hey! Hey!"

Kaguya found herself dragged by a stone-faced Akira Mado, who firmly gripped her wrist and, under the astonished gaze of their colleagues, pulled her into an office. With a loud "bang," the door was shut behind them.

Akira turned around, her delicate face expressionless, her beautiful eyes fixed intently on Kaguya.

"Um, sorry," Kaguya scratched her head awkwardly. "I was just joking around, that's all."

But Akira remained unmoved. She stepped closer, her voice cold. "Was that really just a joke?"

Seeing Akira's face mere inches from hers, Kaguya instinctively took two steps back, offering a sheepish smile. "It was just an impulsive moment, you know. I couldn't help myself and... well, that happened."

"Hmm." Akira Mado glanced at Kaguya and let out a soft snort. "Just an impulse, huh?"

Cough, cough. Kaguya felt like she might have overdone things. She had initially intended to take things slow, build up the relationship properly. Now it seemed like she'd rushed things far too much. After all—

At that moment, Akira's lips curled into a faint charming smile. Her delicate features lit up, blooming like a flower, as she spoke with a meaningful tone: "I didn't expect you to have such... preferences. You look so innocent on the surface, but deep down, you're actually a pervert."

"Huh?" Kaguya was dumbfounded.

Before Kaguya could respond further, Akira suddenly grabbed the tie around her neck and gave it a strong yank. Kaguya stumbled forward involuntarily, and just as she did, she felt something soft against her lips. Her eyes widened in shock.

Akira Mado had grabbed her wrist, leaned in, and kissed her right on the lips.

Kaguya froze, as if struck by lightning, unable to recover for a long moment.

Could it be she was still dreaming?

Surely, this had to be some unrealistic hallucination. The Akira Mado she knew—serious, cool, a consummate professional with a touch of the strong, independent woman archetype—couldn't possibly do something like this.

When Kaguya finally regained her senses, she couldn't hold back any longer. Stretching her arms wide, she pulled Akira into a tight embrace.

Akira's clear, beautiful eyes widened in surprise, but gradually softened as Kaguya deepened the kiss. Kaguya's tongue slipped past Akira's lips, claiming her mouth with a fierce, passionate sweep. Akira responded eagerly, her own tongue tangled with Kaguya's, moving with equal fervor as their kiss grew more heated. their bodies pressed tightly together, completely consumed by the sensation of the French kiss.

After a while, Akira gently pushed Kaguya away, breathless and flushed. Her black-and-white eyes, sparkling with both clarity and amusement, fixed on Kaguya. With a playful smile, she teased, "How exactly did you get so skilled at this?"

"Huh?"

Kaguya blinked, taken aback. That line sounded strangely familiar.

"I bet you've ruined plenty of other girls, haven't you?" Akira cast her a sidelong glance.

"Uh..."

Kaguya scratched her head awkwardly. If she admitted there were a dozen or two, would Akira end up killing her?

"But still," Akira continued, her tongue tracing the corner of her lips to catch the lingering trace of moisture, "for a first kiss, the experience wasn't too bad." She gave Kaguya another glance. "I'll let you off the hook this time, but next time, you'll have to make it up to me."

Kaguya froze, her eyes widening suddenly.

Was she implying—

"Don't get any funny ideas. I don't mean anything else," Akira interrupted, giving Kaguya a light punch on the shoulder. With a sly smile, she added, "You really are a pervert, you know."

...

Due to Koutarou Amon's injuries sustained during the previous ghoul extermination operation, he had been struggling to continue attending work, even though it was clear he hadn't fully recovered.

Kaguya had noticed his peculiar walking posture when she saw him at the CCG base, but she hadn't given it much thought. Now, it was evident he had been forcing himself to work through his injuries. Being human, Amon lacked the rapid regenerative abilities of ghouls, and such persistence seemed almost reckless.

Amon's determination, however, was remarkable. Despite his injuries, he gritted his teeth and showed up to work without revealing a hint of weakness. Yet his injuries eventually caught the attention of Shinohara Yukinori, who promptly ordered him to take medical leave and rest at the hospital. After all, Koutarou Amon was a rare talent, even at CCG headquarters.

Kaguya felt a pang of guilt about her partner's injuries. While the circumstances had left them little choice, the fact remained that she and Akira Mado had slipped away early during the operation, leaving him behind. However, when she learned that Amon's absence meant the reassignment of partners, her guilt was quickly forgotten.

Now, with no assigned partner other than herself and Akira, it seemed inevitable that they would be paired together.

Following the recent events, rather than straining their bond, Akira's favor toward Kaguya seemed to have grown significantly. Their relationship had become much closer. Kaguya had never imagined that beneath Akira's cold, frosty demeanor lay such an unexpectedly endearing side—a surprising and welcome discovery.

Yet, reality often falls short of expectations. Just as Kaguya was eagerly anticipating Akira's arrival, the office door opened, and in walked someone else. A young man grinned cheerfully at her and said, "Hi, I'm Furuta Nimura. It's nice to meet you. Please take care of me."

His skin was pale, his features delicate, and his tall, slender frame gave him a somewhat androgynous appearance. If he dressed up, many might mistake him for a girl. Kaguya recognized him as the same Furuta Nimura she had encountered on the street not long ago.

But why was he in her office?

"Did you come to the wrong place?" Kaguya frowned.

"Aren't you Investigator Liuli?" Furuta asked, tilting his head in slight confusion.

"Yes, and?" Kaguya responded curtly.

For reasons she couldn't quite explain, a foreboding feeling settled in her chest.

"Then there's no mistake!" Furuta Nimura jogged over, extending his hand with a sheepish smile. "I'm the new recruit, Furuta Nimura. Please guide me, Senpai."

Kaguya's expression turned completely blank. She raised a hand and pointed at the door.

Furuta turned to glance at the door, his confusion deepening. "Senpai, is there a problem?"

Kaguya tilted her head, her lips curving into a seemingly kind smile. "Get out."

Why in the world had this idiot become her partner? When Kaguya heard the news, it hit her like a thunderbolt. She was utterly stunned. She had been hoping for a cute female partner, not this scatterbrained oddball with a loose screw or two.

She had even imagined spending her partnership with Akira in blissful companionship, maybe even working up to a confession and sharing some intimate, not-suitable-for-children moments. Instead, this was her reality—a complete reversal of her fantasies.

Originally, Furuta Nimura's partner had been Kuroiwa Takeomi. However, after Takeomi sustained severe injuries during an investigation into the ghouls in the 6th Ward, he was hospitalized indefinitely, leaving Furuta without a partner. This reshuffling had resulted in Furuta being assigned to Kaguya, much to her chagrin.

The current CCG initiative to investigate the Tsukiyama family was partly fueled by the recent increase in casualties among investigators. While the CCG tolerated ghouls who refrained from harming humans, the Tsukiyama family was notorious for their organized hunting of humans and the operation of live capture and torture facilities—a line that could not be ignored.

However, this unexpectedly disrupted the plan Kaguya had carefully prepared. She even considered whether she should silence this idiot permanently. Yet, seeing how diligently he served tea and fetched water, she decided to spare his life—for now.

Of course, Kaguya would never openly admit that this guy had "generously" lent her tens of thousands of yen, which at least saved her from having to distribute flyers anymore.

At home, the two little brats had an insatiable appetite. They weren't just big eaters; they had surpassed even Kaguya's notoriously large appetite. Kaguya prided herself on being a foodie, but she hadn't expected those two to eat even more—five to six times the amount of a normal human meal. She speculated this was likely because human food contained far less energy compared to human flesh.

But this significantly increased the burden on Kaguya, so much so that she occasionally entertained wild thoughts of taking revenge on society—like blowing up a power plant or something.

"Senpai, senpai, guess what I discovered!"

Just hearing the voice, Kaguya knew it was that idiot, Furuta Nimura.

"I'm completely uninterested, so there's no need to say it," Kaguya said, her face expressionless.

"You're so cold," Furuta pouted in mock hurt. "I was going to tell you I found some information about Akihiro Kanou, but since you're not—"

"Hmm? You found something?" Kaguya's interest piqued slightly.

Seeing her reaction, Furuta immediately perked up and leaned closer with a grin. "It took me a lot of effort to uncover this."

"Enough chatter. Spit it out," Kaguya said, glancing at him impatiently.

"Senpai, you're so scary!"

From Furuta, Kaguya obtained some information about Akihiro Kanou. His background aligned closely with the original story: he had initially been a researcher within CCG, but due to certain circumstances, he had been expelled. Later, he reportedly joined Aogiri Tree. Recently, however, he had vanished. Some reports claimed he was conducting secret research, others that he had left Aogiri Tree, and still others that he was already dead.

Kaguya, however, didn't believe someone as cunning and resourceful as Kanou would die so easily. His ability to maneuver between major factions in the original work and thrive in such dangerous waters was proof of his craftiness.

"Thanks," Kaguya said, offering him a smile.

Furuta scratched his head with a goofy laugh. "It's nothing, Senpai. It's what I should—"

Before he could finish, Kaguya glanced at the clock on the wall. "Sorry, it's time to clock out. I've got plans, so let's chat another time. Goodbye." With that, she turned on her heel and left without looking back—she had an appointment with Akira Mado and no time to waste on idle conversation.

"Senpai, wait—" Furuta tried to call after her, but Kaguya was already gone.

Watching her departing figure, Furuta's eyes narrowed slightly, and the corners of his mouth lifted into a subtle smile.

"Truly an interesting woman."
