Dimensional Kaguya Ōtsutsuki

Chapter 588: The Maid

When Kurona and Nashiro Yasuhisa emerged from the bedroom, the sun was already high in the sky, its warm rays spilling through the windows. The clear, sunny day contrasted sharply with the tense atmosphere filling the room.

Particularly unsettling was the figure of Kaguya, seated on the remains of the sofa, silent and expressionless, her demeanor cold as ice. The oppressive air around her was enough to make the sisters feel an invisible weight pressing down on them.

Though Kurona and Nashiro maintained a composed facade, their hearts raced with unease. They couldn't help but feel guilty; the person in front of them was not only a CCG investigator but also someone with overwhelming strength. Even though she had temporarily refrained from harming them, there was no telling what she might do next.

Would she hand them over to the CCG?

The twins exchanged a glance, their apprehension growing. Though their faces betrayed nothing, their hearts were filled with trepidation.

It wasn't entirely their fault, after all.

They had spared her in the morning, refraining from killing her in her sleep. Yet this detestable person had taken advantage of their goodwill, ambushing them and using such shameless, underhanded tactics that their chests still ached from the pain.

Had Kaguya not been such a beautiful young woman, they might have mistaken her for some lecherous pervert.

And to top it off, she was the one who had struck first. Their response had been pure self-defense.

As for the room's chaotic state? That wasn't on them, either. If she hadn't attacked, they wouldn't have retaliated, and the apartment wouldn't look like a disaster zone. Clearly, the blame lay squarely on this girl before them.

But as the minutes ticked by, their certainty began to waver.

After all, it was Kaguya who had saved them. Without her, they would already be dead. And despite her resemblance to some kind of deranged lunatic, she didn't seem like a bad person. If she had been, they wouldn't still be standing here alive.

Yet her current expression was difficult to interpret, leaving them unsure of what to think.

Kaguya sat upright on the damaged sofa, her expression stern. The twin sisters stood to the side, their faces composed but strangely reminiscent of schoolchildren caught misbehaving.

"You are—" Kurona finally broke the silence, unable to bear the tension any longer.

But before she could finish, Kaguya's clear eyes flashed coldly. Her hand rose, and from across the room, a katana flew into her grip. With a flick of her thumb, the blade slid from its sheath, gleaming menacingly in the light.

At the same moment, Kaguya launched herself forward, a blur of speed that seemed faster than the eye could follow.

Kurona and Nashiro froze, their hearts pounding. Was she about to silence them for good?

In that split second, black and crimson wings unfurled behind them, glowing with an eerie, otherworldly light—their kagune, now transformed into ukaku.

In an instant, their ukaku morphed into crystalline shards that tore through the air, shattering the stillness like a deadly storm. A barrage of sharp projectiles rained toward the oncoming Kaguya, as relentless as a hail of bullets.

The attack was dense, nearly impenetrable, and for a moment, it seemed impossible for Kaguya to avoid being hit.

But just then, a smirk appeared on Kaguya's lips. Her form blurred, leaving afterimages behind as she moved like a phantom, weaving effortlessly through the onslaught of crystal bullets.

"What?"

The twins' eyes widened in shock. Hastily, they reshaped their kagune into spears, hoping to counter her assault. Yet their inexperience with ukaku betrayed them; having only recently gained this new form, they were far from mastering its use. Moreover, the fighting style of ukaku differed greatly from that of their previous rinkaku.

In the brief moment of hesitation, Kaguya closed the gap between them, her blade gleaming as she advanced.

The blade, as fluid as water, was already inches away, and the sharp aura emanating from its edge stung their skin.

Kurona's heart was filled with regret. They could have left smoothly, but her decision to stay—hoping to use the strength of this formidable figure—had led them here. After all, if Kaguya hadn't killed them immediately, there must have been a reason.

But this outcome was far from what she had expected.

Gritting her teeth, Kurona pushed Nashiro aside with all her strength and stepped forward to face the attack alone.

"Kurona!" Nashiro cried out in shock. She hadn't anticipated this. But it was already too late to intervene.

Kurona had resigned herself to death. She turned her head and shouted, "Run! Don't worry about me!"

"No! I want to stay with you!" Nashiro sobbed, her voice trembling.

If this were a melodramatic soap opera, this moment would be tragic—a heart-wrenching farewell destined to spur vengeance against the world. But unfortunately, this wasn't such a story.

Kaguya's arm moved with lightning speed, her blade cutting through the air. Amid the flurry of afterimages, streaks of blade light shone like blooming cherry blossoms, dazzlingly beautiful.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

In a flurry of metallic clangs, Kurona's ukaku was instantly deflected. Kaguya was suddenly in front of her, and Kurona couldn't help but widen her beautiful eyes in shock.

Just as Kurona thought her end was inevitable, a sharp pain flared in her rear, and her body was flung backward uncontrollably.

"Don't get in the way," Kaguya said irritably before raising her leg again. She kicked Nashiro, who had just charged at her, sending her flying with a yelp. The two sisters collided and tumbled to the ground like rolling gourds.

Kurona and Nashiro were stunned, exchanging bewildered glances. What just happened? Did that person lose her mind from overexertion?

But before they could make sense of it, the sound of shattering glass rang out. Several dark figures crashed through the windows, attacking Kaguya with lightning-fast speed.

One-Eyed Ghouls.

Kaguya's lips curled into a mocking smile. "So you've come to die."

Her arm swung, and the shimmering blade emitted streaks of light. A radiant arc slashed through the air, its brilliance dazzling.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

Her katana clashed with the countless tail-like kagune coming her way, sparks flying with every strike.

Seeing no progress, the One-Eyed Ghouls hesitated, then launched themselves at her with renewed ferocity. Their kagune whipped through the air, aiming for her vital spots. But to their astonishment, Kaguya showed no signs of retreat. Instead, she pressed forward, her movements fluid and precise.

The ghouls were caught off guard by her rapid response, retreating instinctively. Yet, they were already too late. Kaguya closed in like a shadow, her wrist twisting as her blade sliced through the air with surgical precision.

The razor-sharp edge of her katana cut cleanly through their necks.

Large heads spun into the air, blood gushing skyward in crimson arcs.

"So strong," murmured Kurona and Nashiro Yasuhisa, their mouths agape in shock at the gory scene before them.

In just a matter of seconds, the attacking One-Eyed Ghouls had been reduced to headless corpses sprawled on the ground. The entire battle had unfolded so quickly that they barely comprehended it. Blood sprayed like a macabre fountain, staining the walls and floor, while severed limbs and crushed kagune were scattered in every direction.

Before long, the air was thick with the coppery stench of blood, and the once ferocious ghouls lay lifeless, their eyes wide open in disbelief. The room was a scene of carnage—gruesome and terrifying.

"Hey, what are you two staring at? Get over here and help!" Kaguya pinched her nose, her expression one of irritation as she called to the stunned pair.

Despite her extensive history of battle and bloodshed, Kaguya detested the smell of blood. She avoided killing whenever she could—partly because it was tiresome, and partly because it was disgusting.

Startled by her voice, Kurona and Nashiro flinched and instinctively took a few steps back, their wary gazes fixed on Kaguya. Their wide, black-and-white eyes glimmered with a faint trace of fear.

"Is this really how you treat the person who saved your lives?" Kaguya sighed at their wary demeanor, shaking her head in frustration. "Fine, looks like I'll have to handle this myself." With that, Kaguya snapped her fingers with a crisp "snap."

The remains of the One-Eyed Ghouls ignited in an instant, consumed by a black flame that left behind no trace—not even ash. Within moments, the room was spotless, as though the earlier carnage had been nothing more than a dream.

This was Kaguya's Amaterasu.

Kurona and Nashiro trembled visibly, their gazes shifting from fear to awe. If they had initially viewed Kaguya as a powerful human, they now saw her as something far more monstrous—something beyond human comprehension.

Unfazed by the twin girls' terror, Kaguya cupped her chin thoughtfully.

One-Eyed Ghouls were relatively rare, and those created by Akihiro Kanou were particularly noteworthy. While some of Kanou's creations were considered "failures," these ghouls were anything but. Kaguya could tell they were far from defective. They showed no obvious weaknesses; their attack, defense, and agility were well-balanced. What's more, they were intelligent, coordinating their moves in ways that hinted at strategic precision.

The ability to create One-Eyed Ghouls of this caliber suggested that Kanou's experiments had reached an advanced stage. However, Kaguya suspected he had deliberately avoided creating SS- or SSS-class ghouls. Such powerful beings would inevitably draw the attention of both the CCG and other ghouls, potentially exposing Kanou's hidden laboratory.

Shaking off her musings, Kaguya cast a sidelong glance at the sisters, who were still standing frozen in place. "What are you two standing around for? Get over here and clean this up. Or do you expect me, the host, to tidy up this mess?"

"Eh?"

"Host?"

Kurona and Nashiro exchanged bewildered looks, their voices tinged with disbelief.

"Don't tell me you're planning to go back on your word?" Kaguya said, fixing them with a piercing gaze.

"What are you talking about? We never—" Nashiro began, her voice rising in alarm.

Kurona pursed her lips and retorted, "Would someone as strong as you really stoop to forcing others?"

"Don't try to flatter me," Kaguya said, crossing her legs as she lounged on the sofa. "Didn't you just call me an idiot with zero intelligence? Besides, I'm not forcing you. You agreed to this yourselves."

"When did we agree to this?" Nashiro shouted anxiously.

"Isn't it obvious?" Kaguya shot her a glance and said, "Weren't you the one who said, as long as I saved your sister, you'd do anything? Or have you forgotten already?"

"Ah..." Nashiro's face turned pale as she recalled the events. She had indeed said that in a moment of desperation.

"I followed through on our agreement—not only did I save your sister, but I saved you as well. I've upheld my end of the bargain. Now it's your turn to fulfill your promise," Kaguya said with a sly smile. "Or are you planning to go back on your word?"

Nashiro stammered, her unease obvious. Seeing her sister's expression, Kurona quickly pieced together what had happened.

"This was my decision; it has nothing to do with my sister," Nashiro said resolutely, stepping forward and pursing her lips with a righteous air. "I'm willing to be your servant, but please let my sister go. I'll do anything."

Her tone was so self-sacrificial, she resembled a martyr, which made Kaguya feel awkward, as if she were the villain in this situation.

"That won't work. We need to stay together—"

"Enough."

Kaguya cut in before things spiraled further, sensing the conversation heading in an absurd direction.

"Forget it. You can both go," Kaguya waved dismissively, frustration evident in her voice. "What bad luck. How did I end up in this situation? Could it be because I haven't helped any old ladies cross the street recently?"

"You're letting us go?" Nashiro asked hesitantly.

"Yes, hurry up and leave," Kaguya said, attempting to sound intimidating. "If you don't, I might change my mind. Remember, I'm a CCG investigator. Don't make me arrest you."

Nashiro's face lit up with relief. She grabbed Kurona's hand and urged, "Kurona, let's go quickly."

Kaguya sighed inwardly. Ungrateful brat. And here I thought I was doing a good deed.

But to Kaguya's surprise, Kurona didn't move. Instead, she stepped forward and said seriously, "I'm willing to be your maid."

"What?" Nashiro cried, rushing back to pull on her sister's hand. "Why would you do that? If we don't leave now, the investigators will come for us!"

"Are you the kind of person who can't keep a promise?" Kurona retorted sternly. "Even though we're weak, we can't repay someone who saved us with ingratitude. That's something our late parents taught us."

"I… I understand, Kurona," Nashiro murmured, her voice tinged with respect for her older sister.

Kaguya nodded approvingly. Despite her age, Kurona displayed remarkable maturity.

"And besides," Kurona continued, her tone shifting to a practical one, "where would we get food, clothing, or shelter out there? Are we supposed to struggle just to survive like before? When there's already a better option here, why would we be foolish enough to leave and suffer again?"

Nashiro froze at her sister's reasoning, her face flush with shame at her own shortsightedness. Truly, her elder sister was brilliant, thinking everything through so meticulously.

Meanwhile, Kaguya stood there dumbfounded, her mouth twitching slightly. For some inexplicable reason, she suddenly felt an overwhelming urge to smack these two little brats on the backside.
