Devastating The Murim with My Little Sister

Chapter 88: Returning.

P.O.V - David.

Climbing the mountain I spot someone picking up fallen fruits from under a tree.

It was Conan.

Approaching slowly behind him was the Level 10 Spirit Beast.

"What the fuck is this boy doing here?" I thought to myself.

No, how did he even get here?

With all the strength I could muster in my legs, I dash towards the him to protect him from the Beast.

I arrive right on time.

I pick him up and move away some distance from the Beast.

We stop by a tree and I place him behind me as I look towards the Beast.

"Huh? Yeong hyung?" Conan asks in a surprised tone.

"What are you doing here Conan?

Run and keep running I'll catch up to you soon." I say to him.

Fuck! I can't properly concentrate on the fight knowing that he might be in danger.

"Yeong hyung? Don't worry she's not an enemy." He says as he began walking into my front.

Huh? what's he talking about?

I grab him and the Beast immediately comes charging at me.

"Wait, wait, she might think you are trying to harm me if you just pick me up like that." Conan says trying to explain something to me.

I gently throw him away as the Beast charges at me.

I clash with the beast and our collision causes a ripples wave in the air.

"Fuck!" I groan in pain from the collision as the beast stands on two feet.

I activate the Heavenly Demon Technique and hit the Beast in the chest sending it some distance away on its feet.

We stood apart staring at each other for a while and just as we were about to charge at each other Conan appears between us screaming;

"Stop!"

We halt just a few centimeters from him.

"Big brother hyung, she is not an enemy, she's actually a very good friend." Conan explains.

"Huh?" I think to myself.

What is this kid saying.

The Beast drops to all four and begins licking Conan being all friendly.

Conan standing beside her had his head only reaching the elbow of her fore limbs.

Seeing this my hair which was flaring red gradually turns full black.

I was confused but I soon got to understand, painfully.

Conan rode on the back of the Beast as they led me to her cave.

We got there and seven young cubs come running out from the dark part of the cave to meet the Beast.

"I guess these are her children." I say to myself.

Conan got down from the Beast.

I was still looking at the cute cubs when I heard a soft voice calling;

"Bi...big brother Yeong?"

It a voice I knew all too well, but there was no reason why I should be hearing that voice from this cave, no reason at all.

Slowly, lowkey hoping I heard wrong, I turn towards the sound and as I fully turn a female child running towards me hugs me tight.

Still looking I saw five children standing afar off.

Children I knew, they were part of the ones I had rescued earlier.

Why would they be here.

I look at the child who hugged me and I see Hwa crying as she held me tight.

Just a few seconds later all the other kids besides Conan began crying as they ran to hug me.

Conan stood away trying to hold back his tears but he couldn't as he cleaned drops that flowed down his eyes.

At this point I am shaken.

I dont know what to think.

Why? why would all this children be in this cave.

In total they were seven.

After calming down we all sit in a circle inside the cave.

The clouds rumbling as the rain was about to start pouring down.

Hwa sat closest to me by my left not letting go of my arm.

Looking at them they were a few of the children whom I really took note of.

Hwa

Conan

Beom

Hoon

Nari

Byeol and

Ae Cha.

This seven were quite popular to me.

But someone was missing, Da Som.

They were eight that always moved together.

So this seven could not be here and Da Som wouldn't be with them.

"Where is Da Som?" I ask.

As I ask this question the already silent cave seemed to have become more quiet.

No one said anything as all their expression turned dark.

I had a really bad feeling.

A sound of thunder is heard as the rain began falling heavily.

"Could you follow me?" Conan says as he began walking out the cave.

Hmm? inside the rain?

"To see Da Som?" I ask.

He halts and without looking back he nods at me.

Maybe she was out picking fruits just like Conan?

But then she should be back by now since the rain had been showing signs that it was about to pour for a while now.

Hmmm, she probably saw it but wanted to play under it.

Yh she was a very playful and active girl, she is probably dancing in the rain somewhere right now.

Yh we should probably go find her soon.

I and Conan were leaving when the other children stood up.

I mean, it's not like it's wrong but for some reason it felt wrong that all the other children followed behind me, even the Beast and her cubs.

Its raining so they really shouldn't be entering the rain.

I tried to tell them to stay back but not only did they not answer me they didn't even look at me as all their faces looked down.

All together we walked under the rain following Conan.

We were just going to see Da Som right?

So why is my heart beating so fast up in my throat.

We hadn't walked for more than two minutes but the walk felt really long.

"Ummm, how much longer till we get there Conan?" I ask, my voice a little frantic my hair dripping water onto my face.

Why was I getting scared.

Conan didn't reply me as he kept walking.

Pushing aside some bushes on the mountain we came into an open field enclosed by trees.

On a bare spot which seemed to have been toiled I see a wooden slab stuck to the ground.

Surrounding this hipped spot were flowers.

"Naaa it can't be" I thought to myself as I avoided reading what was written on it.

I didn't want to.

Slowly my eyes trace back to the wooden slab.

"Here lies a Precious flower; Da Som."

My eyes began twitching.

This has to be a dream.

I stand opposite this bare spot which I do not want to believe is a grave.

Behind me was the Beast and her cubs.

Beside the bare spot to the left and right were the children with their heads down.

All of us standing under the rain.

As the heavy rain hit my skin I shuddered.

My head down, my fist clenched hard.

Sadness? or anger? at this point I couldn't differentiate which was which.

I really did not want to believe this but right now, right here, before this children, I had to maintain my composure.

"Conan, what happened." I ask with my head down.

My voice deep, I had to force it to be audible.

Conan could not speak for a moment but then he suddenly looks up into the sky, as the rain hits his eyes he doesn't blink.

"O...our village... we were attacked one evening, it was about four days ago.

Suddenly men clad in black came and began killing us.

The men and abled women in the village tried to resist them but they were so easily overpowered.

By the help and sacrifice of some adults we the children tried to escape but alot of us were still caught.

Only eight of us were able to successfully escape into the forest mountain.

Looking down from a certain height we saw our village burning, the place where we were born and where we grew up.

Why!!??

What sin did we commit!" Conan says yelling out loud.

I could tell he was crying but I couldn't see the tears due to the rain.

Looking at the others I could see them sniffling.

"We somehow managed to survive.

Scared we might be caught we climbed up the mountain and unto the other side.

We walked and walked till day broke the next day.

And then we came across the cave of the bear.

We had finally found a shelter.

We were happy.

We walked in not knowing it already had an owner.

We came across the mother bear but fortunately it didn't harm us, rather it allowed us share it's space and sometimes when it went out it brought something we could eat.

We were getting relaxed when suddenly Da Som slumps.

She fell sick.

Trying to check her condition we found out that she had been infected.

While escaping one of the attackers tried to slice Nari with his sword but Da Som jumps in moving Nari out of the way and then receives a cut on her back.

One of the men who helped us escape tackled the attacker as we escaped.

The cut wasn't too deep.

She said it wasn't serious and we should keep moving.

She was bleeding at first but then it stopped.

We thought she would be ok.

But then she got infected.

By the time we found out we couldn't do anything about it.

She laid clinging on to life.

Do you want to know something she didn't give up on even as she laid there?" Conan asks as he looks at me.

I stand there not knowing what to say.

"You...." He says.
