Chapter 591: A Small Date With Two Succubi
Two days passed in a flash, with the knights training against the Adventurers, Simon and the merchants gathered to rearrange and gather enough food and water for the coming battle in case of a siege.
They seem much better now...
Asmodeus stepped on the broken cobblestone, watching the people rushing around with nervous yet bright faces. A step behind him, Sariel and Riel hovered with their wings and a single hand on his shoulder. This way, they could communicate telepathically.
"Do you think that everyone will survive?"
"Sariel... I will do my best, but the enemy is strong, overwhelmingly. Not just Mephisto, but that Grand Duke."
He tried to keep his thoughts tame and positive, but the power displayed by the Duke truly shocked him. Suppose that wasn't the limit of his power. Could he win? That question lingered whenever left alone or in the dark.
"Sari, it'll be fine our Master would never lose!"
Ever since the previous Demon Queen used her body, Riel became more sensitive to the loss of life. For a demon, she cared about it more than normal humans. He wanted to ask about what happened to the young girl, but never found the chance.
"I know, but..."
Asmodeus turned back his feet and paused at the sight of the strong-willed humans selling their wares and small meals, which even now impressed him.
After all...
"Do you worry that much, Sariel?"
He wanted to soothe the two main pillars in his fight against Mephisto.
This situation is getting difficult...
The Brute force of the enemy fleet and the Grand Duke.
And the sneaky possession power of Mephisto, who held Alan's body hostage.
His plan put the most burden on the poor succubi floating beside him, their love and affection something he was using, although he adored them.
It could never be denied that this wasn't going to be easy for them, to both nullify his curse and accept Mephisto entering their beloved Master's body.
"I do!" She fluttered around the air before landing beside Asmodeus, her arms grabbing his like a fearful child. "Don't take risks, don't let him take over you. I can ask, even beg. But you..." Her voice was soft, yet twisted by her emotions. "You won't listen!"
"Sariel... there is no other choice." He pulled her close, and Riel landed as well, taking his hand in hers. "We cannot allow them to get past us and I cannot abandon Alan."
"But you are our everything, why must you put yourself in danger agian and again!?"
The depth of the Succubi's feelings left Asmodeus speechless; she never expressed such deep emotions.
Even though she was a succubus, her powers had been weak when they met. Since then, she's grown into a beautiful woman who loves her Master. She even took advantage of that fact, and yet now... when the time came.
It was only these two women who showed such intense worry.
Although the others cared, they carried a blind sense of worship and belief that Asmodeus could do it.
He would have no trouble.
"I see..." His lips curved into a warm and compassionate smile. These feelings... brewing inside him, like a hot cocoa during a winter storm. "Thank you, Sariel, for worrying about me so dearly."
"Idiot, we all worry about you!"
Asmodeus placed his hand on her head, "I am sorry I put so much pressure on both you and your sister." He looked at Riel, who smiled as she nodded, not denying anything.
Despite being born from the same soul, since gaining separate bodies, they accepted that title, sisters. Closer than any other, they could share each other's thoughts and understand each other's feelings. Not only that, but pleasure, pain and deeper emotions; if one struggled, the other suffered a huge loss in power and mental health.
"Sister is right Master, we worry about you all the time. Since we know better than anyone what kind of person you are."
"Oh and what kind is that?"
Sariel raised an eyebrow and held his palm to her cheek while Riel took his other hand and kissed it softly while snuggling close.
"You're the type to always put others above yourself..." Her eyes fluttered, the sound of the market fading as the bewitching woman who grew beside him continued. "Especially if it's one of us, you would sacrifice youself in a heartbeat!" A tear slipped down her cheek, "So please promise... don't put us first this time."
"Let me do what I must."
He pulled them both to his side.
The warmth of their bodies and soft limbs pressed against his side, making the pair of succubi blush. He could feel their warmth, like a heated blanket. He lifted them both off the ground, letting their soft hips sit on his forearms, their arms suddenly wrapped around his neck in fear.
"Master!?"
"Hey!"
"It's fine, since there isn't much time let's go finish work and enjoy a nice bath together after dinner."
Asmodeus needed to pump his divine aura into the wall. Each day, he strengthened the barrier at Yumina and Serena's advice to reduce damage to the city.
Although he didn't know the significance it might have on that black beam.
"Wow... look at the lights!" Sariel pointed to the small lake in the centre of the city, where people were performing an old ritual where they lit paper boats on fire. The flames glowed brightly as they drifted across the water, and many citizens released them into the sky like kites, floating away.
"What is it?" Riel asked curiously.
"This is a sort of ceremony the humans do to mourn the loss of their loved ones." Asmodeus narrowed his eyes, watching with a cold feeling of nostalgia and sorrow. "They have the fire burn whatever they want to forget or let go of..."
The succubi exchanged a sad smile, and as they gazed back at the sky full of lights that floated away, they clutched Asmodeus tighter, pressing their bodies close.
"Is Master sad? Is there something you want to forget?" Sariel's low mouse whisper shocked him out of his daze.
"Ah... there are many, many things I wish I could forget, fix... and let go."
"Then why haven't you?"
Riel's voice echoed in his ear, her wings gently stroking the sides of his head. "Because, those are my sins. The pain and suffering I caused others, it would be wrong to just bury them..."
"If I can save Alan... and atone for my failures, then..." He looked to the sea, the massive defensive wall now complete and filled with catapults, balistae and towers for the archers to rest and fire. If not for magic, this might have taken months if not years to build.
"Maybe I can move on after this battle."
The two Succubi shared a glance, one with a frown, the other a smile, as moments passed. As Asmodeus pushed his aura into the wall, the golden shimmer of the barrier became darker, changing colour. Now, with the hue of a blood orange, it vibrated and hummed with a crackling energy.
"Good, this should do for today." He sighed and clapped his hands.
Meanwhile, Riel and Sariel both smiled at each other, able to understand their feelings and desires, which helped the pair join forces to aid him and avoid arguments with the other women who wanted to marry Asmodeus.
Riel spoke first.
"I want to hear more about your past Master!"
"Huh?"
"Yeah! I think it would be fun to learn about where you came from!" Sariel nodded.
Asmodeus chuckled.
"Haven't I spoken about it before, and can't you just read my mind—"
"Please!"
Two lovely succubi bowed before him.
How could he refuse them?
***
The sun hovered in the air, slowly descending over the horizon, with no sign of the ships today. The number of days until the battle would begin was at least seven, a week.
Asmodeus sat on the edge of the defensive walls, kicking his feet with both Succubi sitting on his lap. Not long after, he told them about his mother, the things he did in the past, and how he regretted many of them. Both girls seemed more animated.
"Then after selling everything and moving to the city to attend a new school... a strange pattern formed and suddenly I found myself face to face with King Avandar and Alan, haha."
The memory made his lips quirk into a smile. Alan's expression at the time was one of doubt, anger and also grief.
"At that moment... I didn't know what would happen next."
"Wow, and now you're going to save the same man you once hated?" Sariel's eyes sparkled; she knew those feelings because back then, she could only linger around Asmodeus to survive. The emotions and feelings he felt before gaining Alan's trust, the confusion about how he felt towards Liana... now Asmodea. "But, you never doubted me?"
Sariel looked at Riel, who remained calm and docile while smiling at her sister. "He always worried about you in secret, Sari."
"Eh?"
Asmodeus chuckled.
"I know that it may seem weird from my past actions, but I have come to love you both dearly." He hugged them closer, the beautiful succubi leaning against him.
"So before it's too late, lets enjoy a snack before going home and having dinner."
The two sisters exchanged a glance, and then they pulled on their Master's arms as he tried to move ahead. With a smile, he turned back to them.
"Hehe, Master wait~"
"Darling~ can we get a kiss before?"
"..."
Moments like this reminded him of exactly why he had endured this far, and so with arms spread, he smiled:
"Always."
