Chapter 57: Obtaining Reward: Spiral Fang
The pieces were finally coming together.
"You can leave." I moved to the side and leaned against the wall, with my arms folded, making way for them to go.
They bowed respectfully to me before hastily rushing towards the door while holding their toolbags on their backs tightly.
Ben suddenly stopped and turned to me.
"Please wait for ten minutes before using the toilet, or else it might develop some issues again," he said after a slight hesitation.
"Take care, young noble."
Then, he turned around and quickly chased after his partner.
I walked to the bedroom.
I noticed a new security key on the bed atop the table.
I had missed it when I had previously walked into the room.
I picked it up and walked to the door, and locked it.
I didn't unsummon Felix.
I needed him to continue to watch over my dorm room while I freely did my own thing.
I entered the kitchen.
I noticed some shopping bags beside the kitchen counter, which I had initially missed. I walked over and opened them.
Inside were fruits, vegetables, cooking utensils, pre-packaged spices with different flavours, and various other ingredients.
The fact that he had bought me some cooking utensils indicated that he took my threat very seriously.
Satisfied, I brought them out one by one, before arranging them into their various own spaces.
I had already prepared my meal for the day this morning, so I had no reason to cook again.
I placed the shopping bags aside so I could return them to the cafeteria later.
I ate what was left of my breakfast, then I went to the bathroom to remove my combat uniform and shower, before putting on an ordinary uniform to wear to my new club.
The slight difference between a combat uniform and an ordinary uniform. The navy blue undershirt was replaced with a regular navy blue long-sleeved shirt. There were no armoured boots and gloves.
I had enough of both of these uniforms to last an entire month.
Only commoners or scholarship recipients who couldn't afford to get extra uniforms beyond those provided by the academy.
However, I wasn't comfortable leaving my uniforms out dirting for a day, except my usual wears which I left out for a week, so I swiftly used the washing machine and dryer to clean them.
After that, I returned to my bedroom.
Then, I summoned the system interface to receive my reward.
I felt both excited and nervous.
Since it was a quest reward from the system, it had to be good, right?
[ Claim reward. ]
[ You have obtained an uncommon magic item: Spiral Fang.]
A sword about 1.2 meters (3.8 feet) in length: its blade was forged in a helix pattern and resembled a large metallic drill with segmented, rotating grooves, radiating with a deep black metallic sheen.
I traced my fingers on the drill.
"What kind of sword is this?"
I frowned.
It had no blade
How am I supposed to use this?
I didn't want to have to cover my sword with an aura whenever I was in battle against an opponent.
As though sensing my thoughts, and stalling for a dramatic reveal, the status description of the Spiral Fang appeared -
[ Magic Item name: Spiral Fang.
Rank: Uncommon, Tier 5.
Tags: Soulbound. Living.
Abilities: Living Sync Core (Passive), Adaptive Living Core (Passive), Spiral Surge (Active).
Description: It was created as a part-machine, part-lifeform magical item. It's a proud sentient weapon. The smith who made it tried to tame it, but was devoured instead.
Since then, it has slumbered, waiting for a wielder who can handle both its hunger and potential.
Legend says that the Spiral Fang only responds to those who dare to drill through their fate. ]
I was surprised that it had both a soulbound and a living weapon.
Weapons like these cost hundreds of millions to billions of Roble notes on the market, depending on their quality and rank, because they were extremely rare and valuable.
It also had three abilities, which would further drive its value up if it were sold on the market.
However, I had no plans to sell it.
I clicked on each ability to get an overview of it.
[ Living Sync Core (Passive)
Description: A living core within the Spiral Fang. This entity will fuse with their wielder's soul, enabling progressive fusion and increasing combat synchronisation over time. ]
[ Adaptive Living Core (Passive)
Description: Due to its strange structure, the living core tends to devour precious ores or magic items, to evolve and achieve a more perfect state. ]
[ Spiral Surge (Active)
Description: The weapon transforms into a high-frequency spiralling drill that launches forward with terrifying kinetic force. ]
I had been worried that I would face some challenges using the Spiral Fang, because it wasn't a bladed weapon.
But it turns out I was worrying for no reason.
With Spiral Fang's first ability, it should easily adapt to my fighting style, allowing me to utilise it like a sword over time.
I was taken aback as I learnt that I could fuse with the Spiral Fang, which I suspected should be somewhat like my fusion compatibility with Felix's Cybernetic Swift Horned Partner form.
The second ability left me even more amazed.
This was a growth-type ability.
It was nigh-impossible to find an uncommon magic item with such an ability.
I had only read about magic items with growth-type ability in the Zahara's Clan lost archives, and they were coveted by every power the moment they emerged.
Now I had one within my grasp and at the Uncommon rank no less.
If this were sold to the market, it would surpass its initial price, comparable to the cost of those high-tier, rare magic items - or perhaps, or perhaps an Epic magic item.
However, due to the vast amount of resources required to develop the Spiral Fang using this ability, I was uncertain about its exact price range.
I wondered if the segmented spiral drill could evolve into a blade in the future.
