Chapter 121: Reinforcements
"What's the matter Boss?" Peter asked noticing the change in Drake's expression.
Drake did not hide it and explained the situation.
They turned to look at Simon again and surprisingly, they could see that the girl was giving Simon positive signs. There were green lights everywhere and it seemed Simon was having the time of his life, he wasn't missing any shots.
Peter marvelled at the sight. "It looks like your little Padawan has found a breakthrough point."
This was beautiful. It was like watching a little chick jumping out of the nest and taking flight for the first time.
There was a kind of joy guys felt when a friend was making progress with these kinds of things.
"He might just be able to make this work." Drake also nodded. "However, we need to guard him until he completes this breakthrough or the backlash might bring catastrophic results."
Peter agreed with him. He said encouraging. "Simon still has time. Her friend isn't back yet."
"No, but she will be." Paul interjected.
"You'd better not jinx it. Can't you be positive for once?"
"Too late, here she comes." Drake pointed at the girl with scarlet hair that had just emerged from a shop.
"You jinx!" Peter growled at his brother. Paul just shrugged.
"So that's her friend, not bad. Uh-oh, I know that look. It looks like Simon's about to have a problem.
And true to prediction, Simon started having problems talking as soon as the girlfriend joined in. The girl Simon had been talking to for so long started falling more and more silent as her friend gave her practically no chance to talk.
Simon had been making steady progress all along. He had taken care of the barbwire and high voltage electric fence and he was just about reaching the goal. However, before he could take the treasure into his hands a lightning barrier was suddenly erected around it.
And this wasn't any ordinary lightning, but Four coloured lightning.
This lightning was cold like ice, sharp like metal, poisonous like deathly nightshade flower and had a explosive temper like blazing fire. Simon had to retreat.
Peter's eyes turned Bloodshot crimson.
He stood up and said. "Damn it, I'm going in! I can't tolerate this! My boy worked too hard for this breakthrough and if anyone wants to cockblock then they will have to go through me."
Drake and Paul also nodded.
"I also think you going would be good. He has yet to experience what it feels like to have a Wingman. Go!" Drake said.
A malevolent grin crept up into existence on Peter's lips once he got the go ahead.
"It's time to announce my presence!" He said and stepped forward.
Simon could not do it anymore. He was a bit unwilling to give up on his prize especially considering that he had already come so far.
However, this unwanted new arrival was messing up his plans.
She kept asking questions that were making him uncomfortable. If that wasn't enough, she was being extra loud. It's like she wanted everybody to know that he was a pervert.
Who are you? Where are you from? What are you doing here? Why are you talking to my friend? Where do you kow her from? Do you know who she is? Do you know who I am? What are your intentions? What do you want?
She kept firing question after question after question and she was giving him barely any time to breathe let alone respond
Simon was about to beat the drums of retreat, however, his pride did not let him.
"Damn it, come on Simon. You're the man here! You hold the power. I'll risk it all against her, I refuse to let her suppress me. But I can't be rude to her in front of Lois, that's her friend." Simon was struggling with what to do internally, while doing his best to keep his poker face.
As long as he did not show any terrible change in his expression he still had hope.
But he had to find a way to regain control of the battlefield fast, he had to find something to say or all would be lost.
He was running out of time to come up with rebuttals. If he couldn't come up with something good by the time she stopped talking it would be over.
"So what else do you want to say?" Sam queried. She had finally finished.
Looking at Simon, she could tell that he was a newbie to the game, but she didn't care.
As far as she was concerned, any man that dared step on this path was an enemy. As for rookies like Simon, they could not even be considered prey for her.
No, he was simply just collateral damage.
All she had to do was ask a few quick questions in succession and she would easily sink and drown him.
Simon remained silent. Sam had finally stopped talking, but his mind was still disoriented. He could not think of a rebuff
"Is this war?" Thought Simon as despair started to set in.
Simon was panicking. However, something changed at this moment.
"Simon, there you are." came a voice approaching from behind Simon.
Simon was startled to suddenly have "Hmm, Peter? What are you doing here?"
"I've been looking everywhere for you." Peter grinned then added. "Boss told me I could find you here."
In that moment, when Simon heard the words. 'Boss told me I could find you here.' His mind immediately coded and he got the message.
''Reinforcements have arrived!'
When he looked closer Simon could see a confidence that consoled him to rest assured.
...
From their vantage point, Drake and Paul had a clear view of the battlefield.
They watched as Peter walked up to Simon and the two girls. A few seconds later, Peter was introduced to the girls. And less than a minute later, they were all talking and laughing.
In a short while later both girls were happily laughing.
Both of them were!
Drake smiled and praised. "My man!"
Paul also wore a light grin on his lips as he said. "In the heat of battle, he don't miss."
The two watched as slowly Peter managed to draw Sam's attention away, giving Simon the chance to continue talking with Lois.
A few minutes later, the girls left and Peter and Simon returned to where Drake and Paul were seated.
Simon was so excited at this point that his face was red. He couldn't stop talking about what he had done and how he had been feeling, especially when Peter had come to his rescue.
PA! PA! PA! PA!
Drake clapped and said. "Congratulations Simon, you have finally taken the first and most important step at defeating your fear of talking to girls."
"Now you also know what it means to have a Wingman. The title of a wingman is more than just a title, it's power. Power that comes with a great responsibility. Being a Wingman is a sacred duty among men.
It is a Wingman's job to to serve as mental support, to boost your morale and raise your confidence, to help you get rid of all obstacles and much much more."
Being a wingman comes with power however, there are also risks that come with being a wingman. The most important one is that if you do not tread carefully, there is a high chance of the girls falling for the wingman and dumping you that is actually making advances on the girl. This is what we mean when we say if you walk by the seashores your feet are bound to eventually get wet. So be very careful."
"I didn't let you have a wingman from the very beginning because I wanted you to develop your own path, because if you did not have your own path then you might not be able to talk to girls in the wingman's absence."
From the moment Simon had turned around and gone back to talk to Lois, Simon had defeated his fear.
Now that he had successfully defeated that fear for the first time, it would be easier to do so in the future.
After that Drake and the twins had Simon approach a few more girls both on his own and with a wingman. Teaching him a few tricks that could be used at the same time.
At the end of the day Simon got six more girls numbers. Four on his own and two with a wingman.
Drake checked the time and it was already about time for him to leave, since he had to get to the Arena so they decided to call it a day. After making up an excuse of having somewhere to be Drake and the others went their separate ways.
Just as Drake was walking towards a cab however, he suddenly felt a chill run up his spine.
Out of nowhere Drake suddenly felt a terrifying stream of killing intent lock on to him.
DANGER!
EXTREMELY FATAL DANGER!
That was the feeling that this killing intent gave him.
'It's coming!' Drake's heart leapt as he sensed the danger closing in.
Drake hastily turned around to look for the source of the ominous premonition. However, the moment he turned the killing intent vanished without a trace.
"OK once could have been a mistake, but twice is definitely not my imagination."
This time Drake was very sure that the killing intent he had sensed these two times was real.
But where was it coming from?
'Eyes of Order!'
With the power of the Libra Constellation enhancing his vision, Drake's sight instantly covered several hundred meters as he searched for the origin of the danger.
However, even after searching for a long time, Drake was unable to detect anything out of the ordinary.
Initially he had thought that maybe the person that was the source of the threat was maybe a mage that was hidden maybe by an invisibility or a spatial power. However, even after searching with the'Eyes of 'Order' there was nothing. Nobody was hidden.
Drake looked over in the direction of Simon and the twins, but they looked like there was nothing wrong. They hadn't sensed anything.
This meant whoever it was, that persons target was only Drake.
"Hey kid, you coming or what?" came the voice of the cab driver. It looked like the guy had a serious attitude issue.
Clearly he was already getting annoyed
"Yeah we're going." Drake replied the driver, then he let his gaze roam a bit around.
"I don't care whoever you are or what beef you have with me. But you can throw whatever you want at me and we'll see who dies first." Drake muttered then went into the cab.
Not too long after the cab Drake was in departed, someone arrived at the spot where he had just been standing at.
The person lowered the hand that was holding the phone to their ear.
There was a dark look in their eyes as the person stared at the back of the cab Drake was in.
