Chapter 120: Breakthrough Point!
Simon nodded seriously. He seemed to have finally understood the problem. But just because he now knew the problem didn't solve the problem. He still had to do that himself.
But Simon had no clue about how to start going about fixing the problem so he asked. "How do I get rid of the refresh?"
"Not all men have this 'Refresh Syndrome'. To those that don't have it talking to girls comes to them as natural as breathing. As for those that do suffer from this plague, everyone has a way they get rid of it, so methods differ. For some guys they first think up a joke before they begin their attack, then when the girl cracks it relieves the pressure of the refresh state a little. At this point they continue from the already built up momentum. Some guys won't directly walk up to their target, instead they start by talking to other girls around to gradually wear away at the discomfort, so by the time they walk up to the girl they actually like they are already in what players call the 'Zone'. When a guy is in the 'Zone' all cool downs are removed for that period of time. Within that duration a guy can do anything and his mood is extremely contagious to all around him. If he's happy you'll just notice that everybody around will be happy, it's like he has a domain around him and his emotions are all area of effect spells. It is very easy for a guy to make almost any girl fall for him even if she isn't the original target of his advances. As long as she's within that domain she will be affected.
"Some special True legends have mastered the 'Zone' to the extent that they can turn it on and off at will. However, the 'Zone' is extremely elusive so it's not that easy for anyone to get into the'Zone'. Special conditions must be met to activate it and even with the conditions fulfilled there is no guarantee, so don't rely on it." Drake warned.
"Another way I know that can be used is to take a Wingman along with you. However, be careful and don't just take anyone to be your wingman or there might be problems. Alright that's enough chit-chat for now, get back to it."
Simon immediately got to work. However Drake didn't really give him any special pickup lines or whatsoever. Instead he let Simon discover and comprehend his own path.
Because of this every time Simon approached a girl, he would come back and try to see what he could have done better, or said better. The problem was that no two girls were exactly the same so there was no guarantee that using the same line twice would work. So Simon had to improvise and think on the fly.
Drake then told Simon something that helped in reducing his nervousness.
"What's the worst that could happen? Just know that as long as you are not rude she won't dare raise her hand at you. So just go wild, besides this is just training."
'He's right! What's the worst that could happen? At the very most she says no, but so what? There's lots more fish in the river.'
With these words on his mind Simon finally let loose and the demon inside was slowly starting to rear its head.
"Hey Boss don't you think other girls would notice that I keep switching from one girl to another?"
"Of course they do. But what does that have to do with them? As far as they're concerned you're probably everyone's friend. Only the few experts among them know what you're doing. But even if you have already tried approaching one and she sees you going to another girl, while she might guess that you changed targets because you failed with her, she'll still be curious what you're talking about with the other girl. She'll think maybe you're just friends. You could also use it as a weapon against her."
" A weapon against her?"
Drake nodded, then he explained. "That's right. Since time immemorial going all the way back to the primal era, girls always like to date the best guy, or the strongest guy, or the richest guy, or the most romantic guy, or the most perfect guy, or whatever. Hell, they'll love it even more if he can be all of this. Why? Because she wants to be on that pedestal that the best guy is her man. They get a kick out of it. Just like you want to date the prettiest girl. In the same way, when she sees your interaction with almost everyone she'll think you're really popular so she'll want you to approach her so she can see what's so special about you, because she wants to be the one to tame the popular guy."
Simon could only stare in silence. The whole thing made no sense but it also made perfect sense at the same time.
He could not help but want to knotow to Drake and his wisdom.
Simon had just taken another wrong shot at a girl and was retreating. Even though he got turned down, he had improved a lot when compared to when he had first started.
Just as he was about to head back to the bench for a rest, he caught sight of a pretty girl that was standing just along his path.
She wore a large black sweater with a Panther logo on the chest with long pale pink pants. Her short black hair was tied up over her head and she had light pink lips and large eyes that gave her a certain innocent charm.
Simon's newly developed attack instinct immediatly kicked in and hewalked towards her.
She was looking around as if searching for someone when Simon reached her.
"Hello! Is it me you're looking for?"
Lois was startled by the sudden voice right in front of her.
Looking up she saw a stranger that"Oh no, I'm just waiting for someone."
"Making a beauty wait by herself, this person must really be something. Is this person you're waiting for a friend or family."
"She's a friend."
"A friend huh? That's good. Well I should leave. It was nice talking to you."
"You too."
Simon nodded then turned to leave, but then he stopped himself in his tracks.
'What are you doing Simon, are you really going to just walk away like that? You'll have to breakthrough this eventually.'he sighed scolding himself inwardly.
After approaching so many girls, Simon now had almost no more problems with walking up to a girl and starting up conversation. The problem was what came after that.
Simon did not know how to continue from there. That's why despite the fact that he had tried speaking to a lot of girls, he had not gotten any of their contact details.
It wasn't that the girls always rejected him, he never said enough to the girls to be comfortable with getting their details. In short he couldn't even ask for it.
"No I have to do this, I can't let this continue." Taking a deep breath, Simon steeled his heart and turned back.
Lois was slightly surprised when she saw Simon come back.
She smiled. "You're not leaving again?"
Shaking his head, Simon said. "I was going to, but then I thought about it and I can't leave you by yourself or I would feel bad."
"Why would you feel bad?" asked Lois.
Simon's face suddenly turned serious. This caused Lois to feel heart jump. She was shocked by the sudden seriousness so she quickly wiped the smile off her face and focused. However, Simon's next words left her stumped.
"Because a pretty girl like yourself shouldn't be left alone." Simon said firmly.
"Okay." She laughed her face reddening slightly..
Seeing that his little joke had elicited such a positive reaction, Simon felt his morale rising.
'I have a shot! This is it, I need to strike while the iron is hot.' thought Simon.
Reaching his hand out he introduced himself. "I'm Simon. What do I call you?"
"Lois." she replied while shaking the extended hand.
...
Drake was seated watching Simon when the twins arrived.
Commander Seth was busy with some urgent business so he had given all the prospective candidates that he was training time off for a few days.
Drake had already told the twins beforehand that he would be giving Simon some pick up lessons at this Park, but they had been busy with some stuff so they were only now able to make it here.
After excanging pleasantries Paul suddenly asked. "Where's Simon?"
Drake nodded in Simon's direction but then his face suddenly changed when he noticed the girl that Simon was currently making advances on.
This was not the first time Drake was seeing this girl, he had noticed her quite a while ago. And while she was currently standing by herself, she wasn't alone in the Park today.
Her friend was with her and she had only just left. But Drake could tell that she was waiting for her to return. And from the looks of it that would be very soon.
