Chapter 89
Zuo Zichen continued to spill the tea: “Did you know, sis, that the lady actually gave birth to twins? Grandpa and grandma haven’t been home recently because they’ve been taking care of her. They thought it would be two boys, but it turned out to be a boy and a girl! The boy was brought back, but the girl stayed with her mother.”
Quan Zhisui raised an eyebrow. “What do you think about that?”
Zuo Zichen clenched his fist and swung it in the air. “What do I think? Grandpa and grandma favor boys over girls! Dad’s the same way!”
Quan Zhisui: “…”
Zuo Zichen continued excitedly, “Suddenly, I feel this urge to fight! Now there are four of us in this generation of the Zuo family. You and I are on one team, and the twins will probably stick together. They’re still young, so who knows what’ll happen when they grow up? But Dad will definitely favor you the most! He’ll probably leave the family fortune to you!”
Quan Zhisui looked at him with amusement. “Your dad and grandparents favor boys over girls. Why do you think your dad would leave the family fortune to me? Aren’t I a girl?”
Zuo Zichen froze. “Huh? Oh, right.”
Quan Zhisui turned away, no longer paying attention to him, and played with the six coins in her hand.
Zuo Zhiyu didn’t just have that one set of twins. He had a total of four daughters and two sons from his affairs outside the family.
He was extremely biased toward boys, neglecting his daughters while spoiling his sons like royalty.
Aside from the baby boy who had been brought back, there was another son living abroad who was already 10 years old.
All of this was revealed by Fang Yue.
Fang Yue had been watching Quan Zhisui for months, waiting for her to make a move. When she didn’t, he couldn’t resist and found an opportunity to remind her to check her phone. Then he started typing furiously, sending messages and immediately deleting them.
That day, Quan Zhisui couldn’t help but laugh as she watched the words flash across her phone screen.
Now that finals were over, Quan Zhisui finally had time to think about these matters. The Zuo family’s affairs and Zuo Zhiyu’s illegitimate children didn’t concern her.
She only wanted to know why Zuo Zhiyu had kept her in Liangxi Town.
“Sis,” Zuo Zichen spoke up again, as if he’d finally made up his mind. “But I think you’re way better than any boy. Even if Dad doesn’t leave the family fortune to you, I still think it should be yours.”
Quan Zhisui looked at him in surprise.
Zuo Zichen scratched his head. “Sometimes I even think you’re more capable than Dad.”
Quan Zhisui studied him. “Did Zhuge Ying swap out your brain? How did you come up with that idea?”
Zuo Zichen explained, “I have my reasons. Dad always used to tell me that the company was declining and that I should try to curry favor with Wei Shixu, hoping to secure investment from the Wei family.”
Quan Zhisui tilted her chin up. “Go on.”
Zuo Zichen continued, “I was thinking, Dad went to great lengths to get close to the Wei family but failed. Meanwhile, the Wei family heir is good friends with you.”
It was probably more than just friendship. Wei Shixu seemed to orbit around Quan Zhisui.
As a guy himself, Zuo Zichen could tell what that meant.
It was way more impressive than his own attempts to chase Zhuge Ying!
Quan Zhisui replied, “You’re overthinking it. Wei Shixu is Wei Shixu, the Wei family is the Wei family, and the Zuo family is the Zuo family. As for me, my surname is Quan.”
As she spoke, an aura of authority radiated from her, making even those standing nearby feel as though they were looking up at her.
Zuo Zichen was instantly awestruck and dropped to his knees in a dramatic bow. “Sis! I’ll always support you! I feel like even if you started from scratch, you’d eventually surpass the Zuo family!”
Quan Zhisui tilted her head slightly. “You’ve got good taste.”
She had no interest in the Zuo family’s fortune.
Zuo Zichen, for some reason, was getting pumped up by his sister’s presence. A thought even popped into his head: No wonder the Wei family heir went after her from the start. Truly, exceptional men have excellent taste!
…
Xu Zhiyi had really run away from home. She packed a huge suitcase and headed to the airport, buying a ticket to go abroad.
The Zuo household remained chaotic because Quan Zhisui had given Zuo Zichen a mission: to stir up so much trouble during the winter break that no one would have time to pay attention to her.
Three days later, early in the morning, Quan Zhisui packed her bags and got into a car driven by Fang Yue. Zuo Zhiyu was completely unaware.
Switching Zhao Lin for Fang Yue was risky, but it was all thanks to Zuo Zichen.
As the car started, Fang Yue quickly spoke up, “Miss, it’ll take about thirty minutes to get to the high-speed rail station.”
Quan Zhisui said, “Tell me about my mother.”
Fang Yue had been a driver for 20 years, back when Quan Zhisui hadn’t even been born.
Fang Yue’s expression softened for a moment. “How should I put it? Seeing you is like seeing Quan Feng all over again.”
Quan Zhisui murmured, “Quan Feng…”
Fang Yue nodded. “Perhaps I shouldn’t call you the Zuo family’s young miss, but rather, Little Quan Feng.”
Quan Zhisui smiled. “I like that title.”
Fang Yue continued, “Quan Feng was her name. If you have time, you should look up news from 20 years ago. She was a sensation in Liangxi Town, the red rose of the social scene! Even now, you can find plenty of information about her online.”
Quan Zhisui rested her chin on her hand. “So, back then, it was my mom who was impressive, not my dad?”
Fang Yue nodded. “The predecessor of the Zuo Group was called Mu You Venture Capital.”
Quan Zhisui’s eyes lit up. “She was into venture capital?”
“Absolutely!” Fang Yue chuckled. “Quan Feng had a sharp eye. She started from scratch during college, investing in everything and always making a profit! By then, she was already wealthy and well-known. She kept growing her business, eventually founding a venture capital company. Within just two years, she made it onto Liangxi Town’s rich list!”
Quan Zhisui listened with great interest. “Go on.”
Fang Yue reminisced with a smile, “I started working as your mother’s driver around that time. She often made phone calls in the car, and I’d occasionally overhear some key information. I followed her lead and invested, making enough to buy two houses.”
Quan Zhisui’s eyes sparkled with amusement. “How much are those two houses worth now?”
Fang Yue sighed. “After Quan Feng passed away, your dad took over the venture capital company. He kept losing money, and I followed his lead on a few bad investments. I lost everything.”
Quan Zhisui: “…”
Fang Yue added, “Later, your dad leveraged your mother’s reputation in Liangxi Town to secure a lot of investments. He transformed Mu You Venture Capital into the Zuo Group and stopped the venture capital projects. He didn’t dare to play that game anymore.”
Quan Zhisui sneered. “He sure knew how to scheme. After a few rounds of financing, Mu You was completely rebranded as his own company, erasing any trace of my mother.”
Fang Yue nodded. “Exactly. After multiple rounds of financing, Mu You no longer exists.”
Quan Zhisui asked another question, “So, my dad was basically living off my mom’s success back then. She was so impressive—why did she fall for him?”
Fang Yue grinned. “Oh, don’t underestimate your dad. Back in college, he was the campus heartthrob! He was really handsome when he was young, and Quan Feng was a total sucker for good looks.”
Quan Zhisui’s expression cracked for a moment, her emotions nearly bubbling over.
Damn it! Now she was being pursued by a campus heartthrob herself!
Fang Yue added, “As for what happened to you—being abandoned—it was Zuo Zhaoyuan and Zhang Liufang who planned it. They saw that you were a girl and that Quan Feng, who had kept them in check, was no longer around. So, they arranged for someone to take you far away from Liangxi Town.”
Quan Zhisui asked, “What about my name?”
Fang Yue replied, “Your mother had already chosen your name before you were born. The person who took you away felt guilty and wrote your name on a piece of paper before sending you off.”
Quan Zhisui fell silent.
“That person has since passed away,” Fang Yue said with a sigh.
Quan Zhisui asked the crucial question, “So, why did Zuo Zhiyu bring me back now?”
Fang Yue frowned. “I’ve been wondering the same thing. It’s really strange, but I haven’t found any clues.”
“We’ll find out eventually,” Quan Zhisui said, leaning back in her seat and closing her eyes to rest.
