Chapter 764: Daphne's Little Trouble — The Boy Named Black!

Daphne twisted her thumbs before suddenly standing up and eying the boy… sleeping in front of her.

After Darcie had gone for her turn, Daphne had gone quiet as usual. Her face had regained the characteristic blankness, her nordic, blue eyes settling down lifelessly.

She lifted her hand and pushed a lock of her blond hair to the back of her ear.

Her heart… was beating against her chest with booms, overwhelming the roar coming from outside.

Daphne was nervous. Very nervous.

Last time, she had lost control over the magical creature she had summoned using her Spell — Magical Conjuration. That had never happened before. Perhaps, the magical creature had somehow reacted to the Grimoire's presence, Darcie had guessed.

Who was to say it wouldn't happen again?

But Daphne had no choice. Without the Grimoire around her, she couldn't summon a creature… as that's what Madam Villanelle and Professor Dumbledore believed.

Others were still fine, except Hermione, of course.

They could use their powers without revealing them outright.

She and Hermione, though… Daphne again looked at Black, who was snoring. How can he sleep? Now, of all the times!

Slowly, she walked up to the boy, her mind a mess, thinking of what would happen in her turn.

Ruffled, black hair. Fluttering eyes. A trail of saliva wetting the corner of his mouth.

He is… handsome…

Daphne's eyes went wide.

Where did that come from?!

Her jumbled thoughts about the upcoming battle just vanished as if they never existed there. Everything was replaced by the three words that kept echoing in her mind.

Wha… What… She looked around and suddenly realized they were alone in the tent.

A dense, rosy blush took over Daphne's face, her eyes becoming heavy.

She lifted her hands and smacked both of them on her face.

Slapppppppppp!

Shaking her head left and right, taking deep breaths, and patting herself, Daphne opened her eyes and found Black staring at her with blurry eyes.

Daphne stepped back, dearly wishing that Darcie was here now. She needed help.

Black yawned, stretched, and then looked back at her again. "Yo!" he said, standing up. "Calling a truce?"

"Truce?"

"Truce."

"Truce? I am not your enemy."

"You are Darcie's friend…" Black shrugged.

Daphne stared at Black, took a deep breath, and marched back to her place. Gods! What was I thinking?!

Suddenly, the constant roar barraging against their eardrums disappeared.

After listening to it for hours, both Black and Daphne had become so used to it that they instantly felt off.

"What's going on?" Black asked, looking toward the exit. Don't tell me Voldemort did something again. I told him to wait till the Triwizard Tournament was over. The bloodbath can wait till then…

Yellow Crystals danced in Black's eyes.

As the Ad Infinitums synchronized, his lips twitched.

On the other side, Daphne was also looking toward the exit to the Quidditch Field.

Did Darcie really do it? She asked herself, twisting her thumbs again. I hope…

Darcie's Self-Transfiguration to a Thunderbird was a secret that almost none knew at Hogwarts.

Darcie was already leagues ahead of many wizards and witches when it came to Transfiguration. It wasn't just because of her Willow and Thunderbird core Wand, but she was innately tuned towards this field of magic, as Madam Villanelle had put it.

Before joining Hogwarts, Darcie had gone to Uagadou School of Magic to work up her Transfiguration game.

There, for the first time, Darcie had self-transfigured into a two-winged Thunderbird, her Wand amplifying her magic beyond limits.

By the time it came to say goodbye to her studies there, she had already become a four-winged Thunderbird, surpassing all students there in self-transfiguration.

During the Battle of Legends, when the Hebridean Black had come for them, Darcie meant to use this very transformation.

However, as Darcie later told Daphne, she had known subconsciously that even if she were to transfigure into a twelve-winged Thunderbird, she wouldn't have been able to take on a full-grown, undead dragon.

That helplessness had accentuated Darcie's loss of magical control over the spell, ending up with her becoming an Obscurus.

Ever since then, Darcie had been practicing this spell under the careful eyes of Madam Villanelle.

It seemed she had finally mastered it.

Daphne calmed down, feeling good suddenly.

"Yo!"

Daphne jumped, finding Black standing right next to her face.

Black smiled. "You are weird… When people jump like this, they follow with — Merlin's beard! Shit! Fu…"

"Shut up!" Daphne hissed.

Black nudged his chin toward the exit. "Know what's going on?"

Daphne kept quiet. Black shrugged and turned around, yawning.

"It's Darcie…" She didn't know why she was saying it, either. "She's going to beat the dragon. To get Bonus Points."

Black looked over his shoulder. "And?"

Daphne stared at him. Yes. They weren't friends. Not like she was friends with Harry, Ron, and Draco at least. But…

… Daphne remembered a knight in blue flames, pushing the strongest witch she knew to her knees.

Ignore him! Darcie had fumed in blatant anger after the fight. That idiot is like a silly old man trying to act cool in front of children… Ewww… gives me the creeps! Let's call him Uncle Black next time… That will show him…

A rare smile crept up on Daphne's face. "I want to win, too. I also want the Bonus Points."

Black's smile widened. "Of course… When we are out there, just wait for me to become awesome… Haha!"

Dumbledore tried to calm down a furious Karkaroff. But the frown settled on Madam Maxime's face worried him the most.

"Cheatting!" Karkaroff thundered. "She is an Animagus!"

Any such power needed to be put out in writing before the Triwizard Tournament began.

There were many Animagi among the Durmstrang and Beauxbatons, and even Hogwarts students who were champions of the Tournament, but most of them were in the 2nd group.

For Darcie, the most popular witch of the wizardkind, to be an Animagus in secret, went beyond deceit, considering the Tournament at least.

Crouch Sr tried to resolve the mess with a stern face. "Saying Darcie's cheating is saying that the ministry is corrupt, Karkaroff," he said, quieting the angered wizard. "She's not an Animagus. If you don't believe me, then you can file an official complaint later."

Madam Maxime took a deep breath and looked at Albus. "Dumblidore…" she asked, seeing Darcie and Draco leaving the arena, "wazz that truly Self-Tranzfiguration?"

Dumbledore nodded.

Silence.

For a moment, Karkaroff and Madam Maxime's angry expressions vanished, getting replaced by something beyond shock.

Was it true then?

Were they really looking at the greatest witch of all time?

Why now? Why in these times? Why in Hogwarts? Why wasn't she in their Schools?

The crowd of students had begun roaring after Darcie had taken the dragon down. It had become so loud that the Headmaster himself had to reinforce the magic.

Dumbledore looked at the students, saw some hope, and smiled to himself.

"I know Darcie raised the bar too high," he mumbled more to himself than to his fellow judges. "But… keep an open mind for the next one as well. The boy possesses… even more potential than Darcie. He also knows how to silence the crowd…"

As shocking as Dumbledore's words were for them, Karkaroff, Madam Maxime, and Crouch Sr couldn't help but straighten their spines, hoping to marvel at another great display of magic.

So, after a few minutes, when they saw a boy running helplessly under the dragon's fury, they all looked at Dumbledore, finding a wry twitch on his lips.
