Chapter 763: Hungarian Horntail vs. Six-Winged Thunderbird!!!

A few moments before,

"I sttil don'tt underrstad!" Karkaroff mumbled out to the others in a thick accent. "Howw did the boy, Harrry, kneww where the draagon would sttrike?!"

Under the protection of a sound barrier, inside an open tent, Dumbledore, Madam Maxime, Karkaroff, and Crouch Sr sat, acting as the judges of the Triwizard Tournament.

Dusk was upon them, the last lights of the sun on the horizon drowning out.

Yet, the judges couldn't figure out the oddity in the Hogwarts students.

It was especially so in the case of Harry, Ron, and Hermione, who had shown exemplary courage, as well as daring, against the dragon as if it were an everyday event for them.

With Harry's support, the team of Cedric and Harry obtained all five objects.

With Ron's meticulous use of his Mecha Eye, Hermione had managed to obtain four objects as well. If she could use her Spell— Moonlight Sonata — turning into a Werewolf, then they could have easily got their hands on the fifth one, too.

However, that would have also bestowed a one-way ticket to Azkaban on Hermione as well.

Regardless of the Spells, the matter persisted.

"Is it because of the Battle of Legends?" Crouch Sr asked, eying Dumbledore.

Professor Dumbledore glanced at the minister and looked away, rubbing his magical, left hand. "It's the trend of the times…" he told them, making all frown. "… The world will be theirs… whether they want it or not…"

Then Darcie and Draco entered the arena.

Involuntarily, all four of them slightly sat straighter.

"She eez so beautiful!" Madame Maxime praised, smiling. "Dumblidore… let me take 'er wiz me…"

Albus shrugged off the ridiculous suggestion with a smile of his own.

Karkaroff had gone absurdly silent. Crouch Sr's eyes held a rare glint, the corners of his lips twitching as if he wanted to smile.

And then the battle began.

"They are splitting apart?" Crouch Sr asked, pressing his brows. "Not good."

Madam Maxime and Karkaroff nodded, noting it as well. Albus Dumbledore kept quiet, eying Darcie's confident dash.

Then, just as it seemed the dragon's fire had grabbed her, she fired her first spell.

The judges' eyes went wide.

"Exquisite!" Crouch Sr praised. "What a marvelous use of Shield Charm!"

Karkaroff and Madam Maxime shared a glance, deciding not to word out the genuine praises bubbling in their hearts.

Dumbledore smiled. It was just the beginning, he knew.

True to his thoughts, as if the Shield Charm wasn't enough, Darcie cast one more magic.

"Oh mon Dieu!" Madam Maxime gasped.

"By Merlin's Blood!!" Karkaroff joined her.

Crouch Sr leaned over the long table so far that it felt like he was about to jump down into the arena in disbelief.

Darcie first cast a levitating charm on her clothes and then transfigured herself into a rock, joining the many boulders hanging midair under the magical dome.

By the time the Hungarian Horntail reached Draco, the judges had just made their peace with the meticulous display of the transfiguration spell.

To their momentary shock, Draco, who hadn't stood out at all, who Karkaroff, Madam Maxime, and Crouch Sr didn't even know, faced the dragon on his own.

Dumbledore tapped the table with a joyous smile on his face. "Wonderful!" he nodded to himself. "Did you see how Mr. Draco combined the three spells?"

To Dumbledore's dismay, the rest of the judges brought their gazes back to the rock that was now transforming back into a girl.

"So… it's true…" Crouch Sr mumbled.

"What…" Karkaroff grunted. Madam Maxime looked over as well, ignoring the frown on Dumbledore's face.

By now, the wizarding world knew many things that were once secret regarding Darcie Malfoy.

Years of prodding by the journalists did that to celebrities.

However, some things were still unknown… Like…

"The girl's wand has a Thunderbird Core…" Crouch Sr said. Karkaroff and Madam Maxime's brows rose to the full height. Then he said more. "Exceptional at Transfiguration, she… got her wand at the mere age of 9."

"Enough!" Dumbledore hissed. "Those files are classified, Bartemius! For a good reason!"

Between him and Crouch Sr, the two headmasters had forgotten to blink.

The minister stared back at Dumbledore. "But the world needs to know, Dumbledore… Now more so than ever. I and Ms Bagnold never went along, but in this, we seem to agree. The Symbol of Peace and Power must stand up to her name…"

Dumbledore's blue eyes shone with a touch of fury.

"Do you two know why we allowed an 11-year-old to join Hogwarts in the third year?" Crouch Sr asked Karkaroff and Madam Maxime, half boasting, half getting taken over by a madness. "We received a letter of recommendation — from the headmaster of Uagadou School of Magic…"

"The African School?" Karkaroff asked.

"… I know, too. Itz famous for transfiguration, no?" Madam Maxime narrowed her eyes.

Crouch Sr nodded as Darcie and Draco exchanged words in the arena, the Dragon chewing through the hardened rope, freeing its jaw.

Dumbledore stood up, closing his eyes.

Crouch Sr stood up as well, his old eyes beaming. "The Letter said…"

For a moment, Karkaroff and Madam Maxime didn't know what was going on.

But then they realized the oddness. They couldn't hear the roars outside because of magic. However, they could feel it.

The sounds had vanished.

The deafening roars had gone silent.

Their eyes fell on the battlefield and they, too, stood up, their jaws hanging low.

"… the letter said," Crouch Sr continued as brilliant green shone in his eyes, "… Darcie Malfoy defeated the entire School in — Self-Transfiguration."

Crryyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!

Cra-ckk-kkkkk!!!

Thick bolts of green lightning rumbled under the magical dome, splitting apart the levitating boulders.

Winds raged, and the black clouds danced in the air, coming out of nowhere.

Under the cataclysmic atmosphere, a 12 ft (3.66 m) large, six-winged Thunderbird, cried majestically, its feathers shining gold, green, and metallic gray.

Just as the Hungarian Horntail freed itself of the Obscuro Charm, it turned around and met the Thunderbird's gaze.

ROARRRRR!!!

With a maddened flap of its wings, the dragon shot toward the creature.

From the other side, the Thunderbird cried, meeting the dragon midair, carrying a storm around it like a cloak.

Fire met thunder.

And magic itself split apart.

BOOMMMMMM!!!

All they saw was a Thunderbird and Dragon dancing around each other in circles as they flew up, leaving behind a fiery, thundering trail.

Then, as they reached the top, the Thunderbird grabbed the dragon's mouth with its talons and brought it down, the entire Quidditch Field rumbling along with the crackling bolts of lightning.

Under the stunned gazes of all, under absolute silence, the Thunderbird planted the dragon right in the middle of the battlefield, turning all boulders to dust in their paths.

A cloud of dust rose first.

Then, ignoring the sound barrier of the magical dome, they heard it… a thump.

When the dust settled, Darcie Malfoy was standing over a blurring figure of Hungarian Horntail, her foot planted solidly over its spiked head.

Green bolts of lightning cracked around her, her wand, now pointing at the dragon, letting out rumbling cries.

It didn't matter who did it first.

But, when it began, there was no stopping it.

The cheers and roars echoed far and wide, going beyond Hogwarts' magical boundaries!
