Chapter 762: The Malfoy Siblings vs. The Hungarian Horntail Dragon!!!
"Don't use apparition," Darcie said, looking dead forward.
Draco, walking a step back in her shadow, nodded.
Ever since Draco had used apparition in Hogwarts for the first time, he knew he had stumbled upon something unique. It had begun during the Battle of Legends, when he had disapparated from the battlefield for the first time.
He didn't remember much from that time, except for seeing a yellow blur.
After that moment, Draco had found himself among the students, getting escorted to the Hogwarts under the eyes of the Aurors.
No one had come to ask him about his situation. No one had come to question the scars he donned. And no one had tried to learn what happened to him during the Battle of Legends.
Even his mother, who had come running to see them, had forgotten to check him thoroughly.
It was as if they all had been actively trying to ignore him.
Since then, Draco had used Apparation three times at Hogwarts.
First, it was the accidental Apparation next to Hermione where he ended up saving her from the Werewolf.
Second, it was during the end of the first year, when they all were lost in the thick fog, with dog-like magical creatures attacking them from all around.
Third, it was recently against Daphne, with the poisonous mist assisting him in hiding the Apparation.
Still, even after discussing it many times, they hadn't come any closer to figuring out this magical phenomenon.
"Not knowing what's going on… that is the greatest magic one can cast against the wizardkind," Darcie said, taking out her wand. "Let's not make a big issue out of it. Follow my lead."
Draco made a face. "Can you not act so high and mighty?"
Darcie stopped.
Draco stopped, too, gulping.
Darcie looked over her shoulder and smiled at her brother. "Tell me…" she said, grinning ear to ear. "… would you like to do something cool?"
A chill ran down Draco's spine.
Black is right! He screamed in his mind. My sister's nuts!!!
…
The roar was so loud that not only it deafened them, but also blinded them, their eyes squeezing shut.
It only lasted for a moment.
Suddenly, all noises had vanished, as if they had come to a different world.
Darcie and Draco opened their eyes and found themselves in a strange Quidditch Field.
Giant, many-shaped rocks were levitating in the entire arena. The ground was littered with broken stones, blood, and torn robes of many colors.
Surrounding the entire arena was a magical dome that connected the innermost boundary of the seating area of the entire Quidditch Field.
You could see it. Strange, magical ripples echoed in a dome-shaped manner, starting from the center and landing at the seating area's boundary.
Other than that, it was perfectly clear.
The crowd of students was overwhelming.
Everyone carried Hogwarts Flags, waving them left and right. But even more than Hogwarts Flags were giant sheets of Darcie, standing on a broom, flying in circles.
Even the combined power of the three Schools couldn't put a dent in her popularity, it seemed.
A few of Durmstrang and Beauxbatons students had joined in cheering for her as well, becoming honorary members of Darcie's Fan Club at Hogwarts.
"We can't call the brooms," Darcie observed.
Draco shrugged.
This much they had already guessed.
ROARRRRRRRRRRR!!!
Darcie and Draco's bodies went taut.
Their heads snapped up simultaneously.
From behind a particularly large boulder, a 12 ft (3.66 m) large dragon crawled up, its spiked head peeking out from the top. Under the boulder, one could see a horned tail, dangling left and right.
It wasn't a real dragon, per se. This Hungarian Horntail had come into being under Madam Villanelle's expert control of Daemonologie — The Grimoire.
However, it didn't mean that the dragon wouldn't hurt them.
All it did was to make sure that it wouldn't bite a limb or two off their bodies.
From above, the Horntail's yellow, slitted eyes narrowed. Its huge wings spanned behind the boulder, as if the rock itself had gained wings. It pressed both its forelegs and hind legs on top of the boulder and fired itself toward the prey.
There was no countdown.
There was no warning.
It had already begun!
15 minutes — that's all they had!!
"Now!" Darcie screamed, dashing left.
Draco had already thrown himself toward the right.
The most important thing to do right now wasn't just survive against the dragon, but to locate the five cylindrical objects.
Seeing the two splitting off, the dragon latched itself to a levitating boulder.
Then, letting out another yowl, it flapped toward Darcie.
— as predicted.
Draco instantly activated Acute Perception!
His senses heightened beyond magical limits. Not only did he begin recalling all the locations he had been to before with unimaginable accuracy, but he also began noticing things that were otherwise hidden from common people.
And as he took his first step after activating the Skill, he had already found the first object.
Draco's head snapped up. Just under a diamond-shaped boulder, there was a blue cylindrical object levitating in its shadow, holding a piece of parchment.
One done!
Four to go!!
Meanwhile, on Darcie's side, the dragon was hot on her tail.
The Horntail, in all its fury, opened its mouth and hissed out a jet of fire.
Darcie was still dozens of feet away from the dragon. However, in a matter of a second, the jet of fire caught up to her, the heat scorching the end of her hair.
Darcie's wand peeked out over her shoulder as she chanted out a scream, "Protego!"
Green lightning cracked around Darcie as a magical shield propped up behind her. The jet of fire hit the shield, tongues of fire breaking off with a massive boom.
By the time the flames ended, returning the crowd's vision, Darcie Malfoy had vanished from the arena.
Latching itself to another levitating boulder, the dragon looked all around, growling under its fiery breath.
When it couldn't find the prey anywhere, it turned around on the boulder, digging its massive claws into the rock.
In the distance, Draco was running at the top of his speed, his head snapping up in all directions.
Madness took over the dragon's eyes, seeing the human trying to run away.
With a great flap of its wings, it flew toward Draco, constantly kicking the levitating boulders coming in its path with its legs.
By the time it reached him, Draco had already located all five objects.
What came next was the most crucial series of spells he needed to cast.
This was his only chance to show what he was capable of. Nobody would see him using Apparation anyway.
This was his moment.
The dragon opened its mouth, fire bubbling in the back of his throat.
Prepared for it, Draco was a touch faster. "Incarcerous!"
Thick ropes came out of thin air and threw themselves at the dragon, wrapping around the Horntail's mouth and throat.
Of course, this couldn't prevent the dragon from firing its breath as the ropes were already burning, turning black.
Draco fired another spell, Acute Perception, slowing down all motions. "Duro!"
The burning rope suddenly hardened, becoming coils of rock.
ROAR!!!!!!
The Horntail growled with fury through its half-open mouth, trying to break the hardened ropes.
And then Draco cast the final spell, a headache banging against his skull. "Obscuro!"
A blindfold wrapped itself around the Horntail's eyes, blinding its vision.
Draco panted, smiling to himself.
Far into the distance, one of the many boulders levitating midair churned into itself, transfiguring back into the shape of a girl.
"Are you ready…" Darcie screamed, smiling. "… brother!"
"Yeah…" Draco took a deep breath, grinning ear to ear like his lunatic sister. "… Let's take the beast down… sister!"
