Chapter 51: Master
The next morning, while everyone was waiting for Vice Principal George outside the hotel, Kyle found himself sitting in a chair across from the librarian in a room. He glanced at the man, curious as to why he was called there.
Han poured a cup of tea and slid it over to Kyle. He noticed that the kid seemed pretty anxious, and he couldn't help but smirk because he knew that meant he had a good shot at success. The librarian cleared his throat and without wasting any time, he started telling the boy about himself.
"I'm a powerful mage, so I'm really good at learning spells and using mana in different forms. That's why I haven't practiced a specific art or used any weapons. I'm also skilled at making potions, and you can call me an array master too."
The more Han spoke, the more puzzled Kyle became. He furrowed his brows but nodded as the man opposite him talked non-stop.
'Just why on earth is he suddenly telling me about himself? I thought his identity should be a secret, as he's acting as the librarian of the academy. But now I guess not...'
However, Kyle soon got the answer when the librarian stopped talking about other things and went straight to the point.
"How about you take me as your master? I think it will benefit you greatly. I have been thinking of taking a disciple for quite some time, and you seem to be one of the best candidates."
Kyle stared at the elder, stunned. He had heard about some professors and elders in the academy taking on apprentices if they found them interesting. But why him? There were so many better options.
He was certain that not only the librarian, but almost everyone around him knew that his talent was average at best. Moreover, he wasn't a genius with extraordinary abilities in any aspect... or maybe he was just a little bit because he learned things a little too quickly.
'So why me?' Content sourced from MV4LEMPYR – My Virtual Library Empire.
He had a complicated expression, not sure what to say. The offer was indeed tempting and accepting it could bring him a lot of benefits, but he couldn't figure out why Han suddenly wanted him as a disciple. The more he thought about it, the more confused he became.
In the past few days, Kyle had sensed that the librarian had been secretly keeping an eye on him. But now, with this sudden offer, he couldn't help but feel a little suspicious.
'Did he find out that my talent is higher than (B)-Rank, or worse, did he find out about my bloodline? But that's not possible because even I only recently discovered my bloodline.'
As hundreds of questions swirled in Kyle's mind, he felt a growing sense of anxiety.
The librarian glanced at him with a frown. He had just offered the kid a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and here the kid was wasting time overthinking!
If it were anyone else, they would have already knelt and accepted Han as their master. After all, having a powerful master would make their journey to becoming strong smooth sailing!
The elder got annoyed when Kyle didn't respond even after he waited for a few minutes. His patience was running thin, so he slammed the teacup on the table, creating a loud sound that echoed in the room. In an instant, a crack appeared on the smooth surface of the round cup.
Kyle jolted out of his thoughts because of the sound and looked at the elder, who was staring at him with a smile that didn't look like a smile at all. He almost freaked out seeing the librarian's dark smile.
What's this?
Was he being forced?
Kyle would never accept this!
No way!
He was about to protest when the elder's loud and authoritative voice reverberated through the room, sending shivers down his spine.
"So, what's your answer, kid?"
Kyle looked at the him, his expression deadly serious.
The librarian was taken aback when he saw the kid's serious expression.
'Is this kid going to refuse me?'
He started feeling a bit nervous for some unknown reason when he noticed a faint spark in Kyle's eyes. It was different from the kid's eye color, so he began to question if he had made a mistake.
But he kept his composure and didn't let it show on his face. Han almost got startled when Kyle grabbed the half-filled cup of tea that he had placed on the table and stood up tall.
"Kyle greets the master!"
Kyle's words almost made the librarian choke. Like, what the hell?
If you were just gonna accept in the end, what's with the seriousness!?
Nonetheless, Han grabbed the cup of tea from Kyle's hands, took a small sip, and smiled with satisfaction.
He had succeeded. Now he just needed to sit back and watch as his disciple made his mark on the world.
Well, maybe 'conquering the world' is an exaggeration. The elder wasn't sure how far Kyle would go, but he had a feeling that if he missed this opportunity today, he would regret it in the future.
Han's gut feeling had never been wrong before, so whenever he had a feeling, he would always seize the chance.
The last time he felt this way was when he got tricked by Retric, the Royal Academy Principal, into signing a long-term working contract! He still remembers that he was just traveling around, learning about undiscovered herbs, when he first met the Royal Academy's Principal. Ratric was dressed like a commoner, so Han didn't recognize him.
But after their accidental encounter, Han had a nagging feeling that this person was dangerous. Despite being cautious, Han still got tricked by Principal Ratric. Now he's stuck inside the Academy, surrounded by old dusty books, sharing his knowledge with the useless professors who are into array making and potion making.
Han signed, thinking about the regretful past. If he could go back in time, he would probably beat himself up.
'If only I didn't succumb to the scent of that two hundred-year-old wine...'
He, who always roamed around the world not caring about a single thing, now has to serve someone else just because of a single wine bottle.
The librarian shook his head and pushed aside all those old sour memories, before turning his attention to Kyle. Then, he casually took out a bunch of high-grade potions from his storage ring, along with a plain bracelet that looked like an artifact.
"Here's a small gift from your master."
Kyle looked at the variety of potions on the table. They all looked high grade.
The ones with a light golden color were mana recovery potions, the green ones were healing potions, and the blue ones were probably used to recover stamina.
Now, seeing Han taking out so many expensive potions all at once, it became clear to him that his new master is incredibly wealthy!
'It seems my decision of accepting him as my master is not wrong at all!'
The plain bracelet among the pile of potions seemed ordinary, but when he saw the faint light it emitted, he knew it was an artifact. Kyle swifty placed all the potions inside his storage ring and put on the bracelet in front of the librarian.
He was pleasantly surprised because after wearing the bracelet, he felt like he could control his mana more efficiently and easily than before.
"Thank you, master."
Han waved his hand as if it was no big deal and asked Kyle to head downstairs where all the students were gathered.
Kyle nodded and exited the room. He was a bit suspicious at first, but after weighing the advantages and disadvantages of having a master, he didn't think it was a bad decision to accept the librarian as his master. Either way, he would eventually find out in the future if the librarian had any ulterior motives.
Not to mention, the gift he received from his master was not bad at all. It would be quite useful to him after he entered the tower. Kyle was thinking of buying some healing potions yesterday, but the amount of wealth he possessed was too low to even buy some low-grade healing potions.
"I need to find a way to make money. Now that I have seriously started training and working hard, I need a lot of resources, and to get those resources, I need a lot of wealth. I will think about it after I find the Elixir."
