Chapter 50: Old scroll II
Kyle let out a sigh and looked at the pile of old artifacts and scrolls on the ground. He felt like he had no other choice.
Suddenly, his eyes were drawn to an old scroll that had a faint glow. He pointed at it and looked at the dwarf.
"What's this?"
The dwarf gazed at the scroll, his expression confused at first. But then his eyes lit up, like a con artist who just found a way to sell a defective product.
"Hoho, kid, you've got a good eye! It's incomplete, but it's a map. Not just any ordinary map, but the map of the tower of opportunity!"
Kyle was stunned for a split second. Then his eyes turned speechless as he stared at the dwarf. In the next second, he turned to leave, not even sparing another glance at the scroll.
The map of the tower of opportunity? The same tower he was about to enter?
'Are you kidding me!'
How could the dwarf be selling something that not even the Kings had? If he had said that to someone else, they would have surely beaten him to a pulp!
The dwarf, who had been rubbing his hands with a smug smile, saw Kyle leaving and his smile froze. He quickly picked up the scroll and zoomed in front of the kid.
"Kid, I'm telling the truth. If you leave today, you'll regret this decision for the rest of your life!"
Kyle looked at the serious eyes of the dwarf, which seemed to be oozing innocence.
Ridiculous!
He wanted nothing but to run away. But no matter how much he tried, the dwarf did not let him go. In the end, he had to buy the scroll from the dwarf because the latter said if he did not like the scroll he should buy a weapon.
After buying the scroll, Kyle finally got rid of the clingy dwarf. That is why he swiftly turned around to leave. But he paused when Bia's surprised voice sounded in his head.
-'Wow, he vanished...'
"What?"
Kyle tilted his head back to see what she was referring to, and his eyes widened. There was nothing behind him, no dwarf, no weapons, no artifacts... the dwarf seemed to have disappeared within a split second with all his belongings that should have been scattered on the ground.
"Don't tell me I just interacted with a ghost!?"
Not wanting to stay in that sketchy place anymore, he quickly left and went straight to the hotel where he was staying.
....
In a secluded corner nestled behind a row of houses, two youths dressed in extravagant garments fit for royalty were having a conversation with a group of guards. One of the youths displayed frustration as he massaged his temples.
The two of them belonged to Kingdom Whiteland, and the one wearing the expression of frustration happened to be none other than the only prince of the Kingdom. The prince shouted at one of the guards in front of him.
"Did you find the scroll?"
"I'm gonna kill that person who dared to steal all our belongings while we were sleeping!"
The guard who appeared to be the leader of the group of guards didn't dare to look at the angry prince.
"Your highness Kelvin, we are trying our best! Please give us some more time. We will definitely find the culprit!"
The prince clenched his fists and kicked the empty ground.
"This is your best? The tower's opening tomorrow, what's the point of finding the scroll afterward?"
"Darn it, If father finds out I lost the scroll, which he acquired after so much trouble, he is going to punish me!" Kееp us gоing by rеаding оn МV_LЕМ_РYR.
The youth with red hair who stood behind the prince sighed with a distant gaze and tried to pacify the prince's anger.
In the end, there was nothing they could do. The thief was simply too cunning.
The bastard stole everything, including even their accessories, while everyone was sleeping.
Who would have thought that something like this could happen in a place where so many powerful individuals from all the Kingdoms were gathered?
But unbeknownst to them, in just a single night this kind of thing happened to almost half of the people who were here to enter the tower of opportunity.
Also, the one behind all this had already gone far away after completing his monthly quota.
.....
Kyle arrived in front of the hotel after a few minutes. He looked at the scroll in his hand and shook his head with a wry smile. Nevertheless, he unrolled the scroll and examined the drawings inside.
Inside the scroll, there were three sections drawn with black ink, each depicting a different name and structure. However, all three sections showed a forest and mountains, with red and golden cross marks scattered throughout.
Kyle sighed as he couldn't make sense of any of it. In the end, he closed the scroll and started walking towards the hotel to go to his assigned room and rest. But before he could, someone firmly grasped his shoulder. So, he stopped and turned around to see who it was, only to be startled when he saw the librarian standing there with a smile.
"Finally found you!"
Kyle let out a dry laugh and wiped his forehead, which had inexplicably become sweaty, before politely greeting the elder who had a tight grip on his shoulder.
"Hmm, Elder, is there something you need from me?"
It was an innocent question, with two pairs of eyes locked onto the librarian. Han, who was about to speak to Kyle, noticed Bia sitting on his head and was intrigued by her vibrant color.
The librarian released Kyle's shoulder and reached out to touch Bia, but the little bird flew away with a terrified expression.
-'I'm outta here. This guy's too scary!'
Kyle cursed in his head, whenever he needed Bia's help she would always run away without looking back.
Han looked at Bia's fading figure with a raised brow for a few seconds before focusing on Kyle again.
"It's nothing, kid. You must be tired after walking around for so long. So go ahead and get some rest."
Han asked the boy, who was sweating buckets, to go and rest with a smile. Kyle didn't even look back and quickly entered the hotel, leaving the elder alone. The librarian smirked as he watched the kid's fading back.
'Haha, I knew it, his talent can't be only (B)-Rank! Compared to those two young monsters, his talent is lacking. But having (SS)-Rank talent is still considered top-notch.'
The moment Han touched Kyle's shoulder, he used a hidden artifact to check his talent, and just like he thought, the kid's talent was high.
"But why did that idiot George say he had only (B)-Rank talent? Did the talent testing orb inside the academy make a mistake?"
Also, the bird sitting on top of Kyle's head wasn't ordinary. The librarian had seen the bird before, it looked like any regular bird, but now that he observed her closely, he saw a faint glow coming from her body.
That little bird was (E)-Rank!
It was the first time Han had seen a bird with such a high rank.
"Is it a bounded beast? This kid sure knows how to pique my interest."
In the meantime, Kyle, who was unaware that the librarian had found out about his talent that increased after he consumed the phoenix's essence, noticed a lot of students eating in the dining space below the stairs.
Nine, Carcel and Alec spotted him and the trio quickly invited him to join their table. Kyle walked over to their table and took a seat on an empty chair. Then, he asked one of the servers for something light to eat.
Suddenly, Alec noticed the scroll Kyle placed on the table.
"What's this?"
Kyle glanced at the scroll and let out a chuckle. He grabbed the scroll and spun it in front of everyone.
"It's the map of the tower of opportunity."
No one believed him, and even Carcel laughed a little. Nine widened his eyes and grinned at Kyle.
"Wow, that's such a precious item! Where the hell did you find it?"
Kyle looked at Nine seriously and showed him the scroll.
"You want it? It's gonna cost a fortune."
Nine shook his head.
"Nah, too expensive for my taste!"
As the trio started joking about the scroll, only one person had his hand shaking continuously. It was Alec. He promised himself to never use the appraisal skill on Kyle or anything related to him, with a regretful expression. Carcel, who was sitting near Alec, noticed his expression and stopped eating.
"What happened?"
Alec gazed at Carcel with a wry smile.
"Nothing. I'm just pondering on my life."
"Huh?"
Carcel shrugged his shoulders after not getting what Alec meant. In the end, he could never understand the pain Alec was feeling after using the appraisal skill on the scroll.
