Chapter 52: First Floor I
Kyle walked out of the hotel wearing a brown hoodie and black trousers. Because of all the excited voices, he quickly noticed the group of students waiting for the vice principal and joined them.
Just as he joined the students, Bia, who was with Mia, flew over to him with a curious expression.
-'Hey, where did you go?'
She quickly made herself comfortable on top of his head. In the morning, when she woke up, Kyle was nowhere to be found. But she could feel him nearby due to their bond, so she followed Mia.
Kyle heard Bia's voice in his head and let out a pleased hum.
'I just stumbled upon a wealthy master even though I only went out to eat.'
Bia shot him a skeptical glance.
-'Why does it sound like him wandering around and stumbling upon things along the way is just a regular thing?'
But she didn't ask further after finding out the name of the wealthy 'master' Kyle was talking about.
The street in front of the hotel seemed quieter today because most of the people staying in hotels were heading toward the tower with their instructors or guardians.
Unlike Kyle, who was calm, the other students from Royal Academy were chatting non-stop. Some were excited, while others seemed nervous. Just like always, Alec and his team were standing together, having their own conversation. Thе аuthеntiс vеrsiоn is оn М|V|LЕМРY_R.
Kyle thought about joining them. However, he was already feeling drained after dealing with the librarian, so he stayed in his spot.
All of a sudden, he let out a sigh and glanced at the Nine, who stood beside him. Kyle's calm expression disappeared, replaced by a more deep look.
"Hey, can you stop mumbling?"
At first, he let it slide because every person around him was chatting, but Nine had been mumbling non-stop while looking at the surroundings. It almost seemed like the brown-haired man was worried someone would kidnap him.
Nine's eyes traveled toward the tall tower in the distance and he ran his fingers through his hair.
"Bro, I am getting a little nervous. The tower is giving me goosebumps! But still, I can't believe I am going to enter the tower. I thought I will not in this life..."
He turned quiet and let out a hum.
'After all, unlike the other continents, the place I live does not have any tower of opportunity for the younger generation.'
Kyle rolled his eyes and let out a chuckle.
"You are not nervous, you are the most excited one among all of us."
Soon, Vice Principal George arrived in front of the students. Elder Han stood beside him, wearing a wide smile for some unknown reason.
After checking the students one last time, George took the lead while everyone followed closely behind.
They all walked for about fifteen minutes and left the area before they arrived in the vast, barren ground surrounding the tower.
The other individuals from Kingdom Escalante also arrived shortly after.
George quickly conversed with the guardians and professors who were in charge of the other groups of youngsters. Afterward, he instructed them to gather the one hundred kids entering the tower from Kingdom Escalante in one group.
Kyle stared at the ground beneath his feet, which was charred black with no signs of plant life. The air carried a hint of charcoal, and the tower loomed over a vast expanse of land.
The tower gave off a subtle purple glow, creating a solemn ambiance. However, to his surprise, he noticed that the purple hue had a calming effect instead of being eerie or dark.
He glanced at the many races gathered in large groups around the tower. Apart from Kingdom Escalante, there were four additional groups of people from other Kingdoms.
The East Continent is home to five Kingdoms, which is why a total of 500 individuals were preparing to enter the Tower of Opportunity.
Out of the five kingdoms, Kingdom Escalante, Kingdom Whiteland, and Kingdom Loringnad were human kingdoms. Kingdom Tersia was home to the elves, and lastly, Kingdom Hoekan belonged to the demihumans, who were half human and half animal.
Nine, who was standing next to Kyle, also looked at the dark ground with narrowed eyes.
"I wonder why does the tower look so gloomy? Even the ground is pitch black, without any signs of life."
Kyle thought for a moment.
"I'm not sure, but I think the ground is black because the tower needs a lot of energy to work. Maybe it's absorbing some from its surroundings."
Nine let out an 'Oh' and bent down to touch the ground. Just like that time passed, and after a while, all five kingdoms gathered their kids in rows.
Kyle could tell that in each group, the ones standing in the front rows were royals or nobles because they were dressed in fancy clothes. On the other hand, the ones in simpler attire were standing at the back. The older people stood in front of the youngsters of their kingdoms.
Suddenly, two old individuals from each Kingdom started flying towards the tower. George and Han also flew towards the tower. They all gathered in the air and had a discussion before George returned and looked at the 100 individuals from his kingdom. He raised his voice and spoke with a serious expression, cautioning everyone to be careful.
"Listen up, kids! For the next six months, you're on your own inside the tower. It's all about relying on your own skills. I get it, there might be some casualties, but let's aim for as few as possible."
In the middle of his words, his eyes paused on the bird sitting on top of Kyle's head, and he frowned.
"Kyle, you can't bring pets inside. Leave the bird behind."
All of a sudden, everyone's eyes were on Kyle, whispering that he was an idiot.
Kyle was at a loss for words. He wasn't sure why, but he felt like if he said the bird sitting on top of his head is a phoenix, everyone would start laughing.
There was no way anyone would believe that a bird that looked like a fluffy ball of feathers could be a phoenix.
'I myself have suspicions if the bird sitting on top of my head is really a phoenix. Maybe somehow the phoenix's egg was swapped?'
Bia got furious at George's words and wanted to go fight him, but sensing his rank, she just huffed and turned her head away.
Kyle sighed and spoke politely.
"Sir, it's bonded to me."
George looked at Bia with narrowed eyes, seemingly trying to probe if the kid was telling the truth. But soon, his narrowed eyes relaxed, and a surprised expression appeared on his face.
'Now that I'm looking at it closely, it's emitting a faint hue. It's really a bonded beast. I wonder where Kyle found such a strange beast?'
He nodded at Kyle and glanced at Elder Han, who, along with four other array masters from the other Kingdoms, started floating in front of the tower.
The array masters took out strange purple stones from their storage rings and moved in different directions to surround the tower in mid-air. After that, they placed the stones inside the circular openings on each side of the tower and started drawing symbols in the air. The symbols emitted a faint glow, and after a minute, black clouds emerged from the tower.
The clouds did not even touch the older individuals who were standing in front of the kids of their Kingdoms. Instead, they quickly approached the five hundred kids standing in rows. A familiar feeling of dizziness enveloped the senses of those who were enveloped in the clouds before they all turned into countless white particles and disappeared.
...
Kyle opened his eyes and found himself in an unfamiliar place. All of a sudden, a rush of fresh air filled with dense mana entered his nose and mouth, making him feel refreshed.
He glanced around and saw that he was inside a lush forest, a stark contrast to the barren land surrounding the tower.
Bia also appeared beside him after a few seconds and gazed around with a curious expression. She started flying, taking in her surroundings.
The land around Kyle was adorned with wide, towering trees that stood proudly in every direction. The grass surrounding him was reaching up to his knees. Moreover, he could faintly hear the sounds of a waterfall nearby.
"At last, I am here."
He felt strange now that he's finally inside the first floor of the tower, the floor that is said to be the biggest. Kyle looked around for a while, but the only thing he saw were hundreds of trees.
He tried to climb one of the trees to better understand his surroundings, but the tree trunks were filled with sharp spikes.
Kyle took out his sword from the storage ring in case of an emergency and started following the sound of the waterfall.
Just like him, the other youngsters also appeared inside the first floor of the tower but at different locations.
Some appeared above the mountains, some inside the forest, while some unlucky ones encountered monsters the moment they found themselves inside the tower.
