Chapter 187: Chapter 187: Peril – On All Sides
## Outside Sunagakure ##
At first, the invaders thought it was just the sandstorm intensifying. But soon, those sensory-sensitive shinobi realized that the ground itself was moving—and this wasn't caused by wind.
"It's the Kazekage! It must be him!"
"How can he possibly be here?! When have Kages ever personally entered a battlefield?!"
"Don't just stand there—move out of the way!"
As the commander of the invasion, the Amegakure shinobi's orders still carried weight. Most of the ninja began dodging aside, except for some Iwagakure and Kusagakure shinobi who couldn't grasp what was happening. Before they could react, they were swallowed by massive waves of sand. Even though some from Amegakure had prepared, many still failed to escape.
Those lucky enough to survive helplessly watched as their teammates were wrapped in sand, crushed like grapes into pulp. Hundreds of corpses rained from the sky, flesh shredded beyond recognition.
Gaara could have ended the battle faster by attacking those trapped in the sand directly.
But he didn't do that. He wanted the enemy to witness with their own eyes as their comrades were crushed midair, to watch those mangled bodies fall like drops of death—thereby shattering their will to fight.
The effect was immediate.
Hundreds of shinobi met their deaths in an instant. Then, countless kunai rained down from above, impaling the horrified enemies into the ground.
"Welcome to Sunagakure!" Kankuro stood far away, his voice laced with sarcasm, while his puppet Crow stood beside him.
"What do you think?" He seemed utterly fearless despite facing over two thousand enemies. "I mean, everything here is pretty crazy—the sandstorms, the blood raining from the sky, the falling kunai… but you'll get used to it!"
Innumerable puppets surged forth from behind the sand dunes, launching attacks on the intruders. They moved like a highly disciplined army—hundreds, even thousands strong—an unstoppable force.
This was none other than Sunagakure's legendary Puppet Brigade. And they weren't fighting alone. Behind them came countless Suna shinobi charging out from the sand dunes, joining the fray.
Blades flashed and steel rang, cries of battle echoed across the skies. In the middle of the sandstorm, ninja from various countries fought in a chaotic all-out melee.
Above it all, Gaara stood watching the battlefield with calm superiority. Without hesitation, he would strike down any careless enemy who let their guard down. With action, he reminded them all: on the battlefield, vigilance must never waver.
For Sunagakure, it was a brilliant opening strike. Let's hope Temari and Lady Chiyo are faring well on their end as well.

At Tamako's suggestion, and with unanimous agreement from Naruto and Yugito, the two jinchuriki geared up and set off from Konoha, heading toward the northeastern battlefield.
Though neither knew much about the current situation at the northeastern front—since compared to the northwest, intelligence coming from there was extremely scarce—they could only guess how fierce the fighting must be.
Yugito was especially eager to return home because Amegakure had launched its invasion via the Frost Country. They had managed to cross the border into Frost undetected, but since then, they'd been locked in brutal combat.
Unlike Konoha, which benefited from natural geographical barriers, Ame's army could move in and out of the Frost Country unhindered, their movements swift and nearly impossible to halt.
The Allied Shinobi Forces entrenched in the Frost Country responded with a counter-strategy. Leveraging their intimate knowledge of the terrain, they coordinated and meticulously planned ambushes against Amegakure's forces.
Capturing any village under the control of the Allied Forces was next to impossible. Though they had reached as far as Hoshigakure in the Bear Country, the toxic gas-choked canyons encircling the village kept them at bay.
In that region, fighting while retreating had become second nature for Amegakure's ninja.
No matter what, Yugito Nii had to return as soon as possible.
After requesting an escort from Konoha, she agreed to wait no longer than five days; after that, she would set off on her own.
Fortunately, Naruto returned two days early, which meant she could stick to the original departure plan.
At this moment, two nimble ninjas dashed through the forest canopy of the Land of Fire, making their way northwest.
"How are we supposed to get past enemy lines?" Yugito asked as they leapt from branch to branch. "I really want to go back and fight alongside my teammates, but if we charge in recklessly like this, we'd just be throwing our lives away."
"Don't worry, Yugito," Naruto replied, eyes scanning the forest around them.
There shouldn't be any enemy ambushes this deep in the Land of Fire, but in times of war, there was no such thing as being too cautious.
"We only need to reach our destination and get intel before making plans. There's always a way." Even if it seemed like a suicide mission, he still needed to complete it.
"Any sensor ninja will pick us up easily," Yugito said.
That was true. Even with suppressed chakra, she and Naruto stood out like glowing embers in the dark. Stealth and sensing were exactly Naruto's weak points.
Jinchuriki weren't sneaky assassins—they were weapons of mass destruction on the battlefield.
"Even if we do find a gap, how do we cross enemy lines?"
"Leave that to me," Naruto smirked, his expression one of cunning. If Yugito knew him well, she'd realize that whenever he smiled like that, it meant he was about to bend every rule. "Trust me, everything will work out."
"I'm not scared, Naruto," Yugito said flatly. "My training was brutal—it forged my ability to face any challenge. You don't have to protect me."
"But that's my mission," Naruto turned and grinned playfully. "My mission is to protect you and get you home safely, Yugito. It's not just duty—it's because you matter to me."
At those words, Yugito's eyes widened in shock.
Down below, near ground level, a strange figure peeled itself out of a tree trunk—half black, half white.
"Hehe, Tobi will definitely find this interesting," White Zetsu chuckled excitedly. "Didn't he say he wouldn't test it there?"
"Shut up, baka."
"Black Zetsu interrupted the other half, stopping him from continuing. 'But you're right,' he said. 'He can indeed use the two Jinchuriki heading to the battlefield to perfect his plan.'"
With that, he burrowed back underground to report back to his master.
