Chapter 188: Chapter 188: Omen of Destruction
## Northern Outskirts of Sunagakure ##
"Keep supporting the front line, and watch your aim—don't hit our own people!" Temari shouted while swinging her fan. She created a powerful gust of wind that covered the advancing ninja.
Just as before, the Suna ninja spread out across the battlefield carried out her orders without hesitation.
[Dance of the Sickle Blade: Falling Descent Blade!]
Temari unleashed a whirlwind from her fan, lifting several enemy ninja into the sky before shredding them to pieces, their limbs scattering across the ground.
A massive sphere hurtled through the air, bristling with kunai and explosive tags aimed straight at the enemy ranks.
"Do you need a hand?" Tenten asked.
Temari smirked, catching on instantly. She swung her fan, channeling Wind Release to accelerate the projectile. It detonated in the middle of the enemy formation, scattering shrapnel and kunai in all directions, obliterating a whole squad in seconds.
Beside Temari, Tenten sighed and dropped to one knee, wiping the sweat from her brow.
"This damn weather is messing with my aim," she grumbled while pulling more weapons from her ninja pouch. "I can hardly see the targets through all this sand—it's getting into my eyes."
"I bet you never thought this would happen, huh?" Temari teased with a grin. "Back during the Chunin Exams, you were fighting against me. Now we're on the same side—how does it feel?"
Tenten hesitated, unsure how to reply. Instead, she hurled a few more kunai forward, which sped up under the boost of Temari's Wind Release, instantly striking down several enemies.
"...Honestly? This setup feels way more efficient."
[Leaf Whirlwind!]
Might Guy blurred into a green streak as he charged into enemy lines. With a single spinning kick, five enemies dropped dead. Then, with blinding speed, he took down anyone who dared to retaliate.
"Woah! Twenty-one!" Might Guy shouted, punching one enemy straight in the chest hard enough to shatter his ribs and send him flying like a cannonball. "How's Kakashi doing? I wonder what score he's got! Today, I'm definitely winning!"
"Guy-sensei, focus!" Tenten called out, pulling out another weapon—a bow and quiver full of arrows.
Normally, bows weren't ideal for close-range combat, but with Guy and Lee nearby, they wouldn't be surrounded easily.
"Just keep score in your head! I don't need a running commentary until my ears bleed!"
Hearing his only female student say that, Guy grinned and pointed toward Lee, who was attacking just like him—like a younger version fifteen years ago.
Of course, Guy wasn't saying he was old or anything… because he absolutely wasn't.
He was still overflowing with youthful energy!
"Ears bleed?!"
"Is that really you, Lee?!" Guy exclaimed in disbelief while Lee effortlessly deflected attacks from four enemies at once. "Tenten, if you've already grown bored of this level of training, then I've truly failed as a teacher! Just look at Lee! He could keep this up all day and all night long!"
"He really is impressive," Tenten muttered under her breath, taking aim at an easy target and piercing him through the body with a single shot, watching him fall. "But let's see how long he lasts if someone hits him with a genjutsu."
True to form, she'd have to dash over and help dispel the illusion.
Damn it—look out above!
Several umbrellas descended from the sky, spinning rapidly and firing countless poison needles toward the ninja of Sunagakure and Konoha.
[Raining Needle Jutsu]! a few ninjas shouted in fear, scrambling to dodge the onslaught.
Tenten quickly unfurled a massive metal scroll and dove into the metallic spherical barrier summoned by the Summoning Jutsu, with Guy and Lee following close behind.
Meanwhile, the quick-thinking Wind Release users unleashed powerful gusts to scatter the poison needles and bring down the umbrellas, significantly reducing casualties on their side.
"That was a deadly technique!" one Wind Release ninja stammered, still shaken but relieved they'd narrowly survived—though several unfortunate comrades had still been struck.
Standing there was a man with short green hair wearing a sleeveless dark gray bodysuit, his right hand gripping a sword emitting a yellow glow. Every time he moved his arm, the blade buzzed with energy.
"I've been waiting for a long time."
"I know," came a calm voice from directly behind him.
The man spun around abruptly, seeing Konoha's most famous ninja standing before him with both hands in his pockets, looking completely nonchalant.
"Hatake Kakashi," the man growled, his voice laced with fury, eyes blazing with hatred. "What are you doing here? Associating yourself with these Sand rat ninja?"
"Nothing much—I'm just out for a walk." Kakashi answered carelessly, pointing at the sword in the man's hand. "Ah, so that's the Sword of the Thunder God, huh? Mind handing it over? You do realize it originally belonged to our village."
The man sneered and raised his blade so Kakashi could get a better look.
"Sorry, but I'm not that reckless kid anymore. The Sword of the Thunder God is mine now! No one's beaten me in four years!"
Kakashi nodded slightly. "I happen to have a pretty sharp blade too. Want to take a look?" As he spoke, he slowly lifted his forehead protector, revealing a blood-red Sharingan eye.

Konan spread her paper wings and soared above the battlefield, scanning the chaos below with a wide, sweeping gaze.
Though the Sunagakure ninja were outnumbered, with Konoha's reinforcements bolstering their ranks, they managed to evade enemy strikes and slowly began turning the tide of battle.
It was clear the Rain ninja came well-prepared; however, the other two villages had clearly underestimated Sunagakure's power. They had unwittingly become weapons in Amegakure's hands.
Konan didn't even want to imagine what lay ahead—the mere thought sent chills down her spine.
Hadn't this been exactly what they'd tried to prevent?
But Nagato didn't see it that way. He said those sacrifices were necessary for their ultimate goal. As long as it brought a world without war, temporary suffering could be endured.
What a paradoxical belief.
Yet she still believed in her dearest friend and comrade, trusting that Nagato knew exactly what he was doing.
Several months ago, during her fight with the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki in Amegakure, that guy had also used honeyed words to try to convince her—just so he could survive. When survival was at stake, people would say anything.
Konan continued watching the battle unfold below, biding her time for the perfect moment. Then, like a storm sweeping down, she would appear before the enemy and completely crush Sunagakure's resistance. She herself would be the harbinger of Sunagakure's doom.
Nagato claimed he had fully restored his power, and he was eager to reclaim the Rinnegan. It was time for Sunagakure to learn who truly stood as the strongest ninja in this world!
What could shatter Sunagakure's morale more completely than personally eliminating both the Kazekage and the One-Tail Jinchuriki?
