Chapter 98: Chapter 27 Knights
" Don't you think it is a little bit odd that your name is the same as the legendary king? I mean that girl has the same name as the queen too. Even her knight had the same name."
Harold asked Arthur who was heading toward the area where he was supposed to meet the envoys with his father.
" Don't think too much, Harold. Our names are popular in our land. Everyone names their child with someone popular or legendary."
Arthur felt a little irked when he mentioned their names but he decided to leave it there because clearly, Vikings weren't part of King Arthur's saga.
On the other hand, Harold didn't think so since he believed in fate. Especially when it came to people, he believed each one had roles in their myth. For example: He thought Halfdan was a reincarnation of Thor and Sigurd.
His valiant look matched the myth of those characters and he was much wiser than normal people despite being young.
" Father, I apologize for my lateness. My friend and I were discussing something with Halfdan before coming here."
Uther nodded at his words, opening the door with a calm face as they saw two young knights. One had a distinct powerful face while the latter looked like a laid-back person.
" I greet the lord of Kent."
Gawain knelt on the ground to show his respect while dragging Tristan along with him because he wouldn't show proper respect.
Uther was amused by their looks, raising his hand to signal them to stop. He then grabbed the chair, sitting on it without any care.
" It seems that the crown had decided to hear my thoughts. I never imagined they would send such talents to our backward territory.
Perhaps, if the chance comes up, you should exchange swords with my children."
Uther could tell they were trained properly by the attire of their clothes and their hands. Their hands were filled with scars from training and their clothes had mud on them, showing they weren't just nobles.
" I am grateful for your suggestions, your lordship but the king's sword must not be drawn until the king is in danger."
Gawain remained calm under his gaze, not showing any intent to draw his sword. His hands calmly rested on his lap, not moving an inch toward his trusted partner.
" Are you afraid of us, knight?"
Harold couldn't help but open his mouth while spinning the leather with his finger. His calm eyes were focused on the young knights who were looking at him with two different expressions.
" Words are sharper than sword, my friend. I don't want to humiliate you before your lord and family."
Gawain despite being mature for his age, felt a suddent sense of anger. His hands slowly wandered toward his sword, trying to silence this fool.
" Hey, now. I don't want to interrupt but we are envoys. You don't want to become enemies with us."
Tristan who was listening along with Gawain decided to step in after observing Gawain. Obviously, he witnessed his action, so he entered the stage to stop him.
" Harold, you are being rude. Pardon my friend, he is a little bit energetic when he sees new faces.
You know his people are fond of fighting."
Uther shifted the focus to himself while gesturing him to stand down. His calm brown eyes were fixated on their chests since they had insignia of the crown and nobles which was surprising.
" Ahem* I apologize on behalf of my friend. You see he thinks you are strong after seeing you. His eyes are kind of - you know sensitive."
Gawain nodded at Arthur's words, reaching his hand to give his friendship to him because he seemed to be reasonable. Besides, he learned this gesture was an offering of friendship in the south during his travel through the villages.
" You are quite informed I see. Most people don't know the new traditions of our territory, yet you learned beforehand.
My name is Arthur Kent. This fellow is Harold, the son of Tove. His people are our benefactors and family."
Arthur purposely highlighted family words to mark his goal. Gawain seemed to understand his meaning while nodding with a smile.
