Chapter 99: Chapter 28 Knight of loyalty
" I see, you had a quite interesting life, friend."
Harold who was itching to fight a few minutes ago, now listening to Gawain's story with keen interest because he felt Gawain was too good for the crown. Not only he have talent, integrity, and vision, but he was also an intelligent person who could see the core of the problem.
As for Tristan, he seemed to be enshrouded by the mist that he purposely drew against him. If one could tell Gawain was like a sun, he was a moon that was veiled behind the curtain of eternal night.
" Your territory is bustling with life unlike in the center where people struggle to live. Perhaps the location plays an important role, even so, administrators are the main reason for that."
Gawain didn't hide his disdain against the nobles and king's people. Although he was loyal, his keen senses could see what was happening behind those fake smiles and promises.
" We try to live in an equal world. That is my dream after all. A king who is followed by all and stands shoulder to shoulder with his people, not a tyrant."
Gawain fell into silence when Arthur mentioned his dream. His heart beat faster at his remark, imagining such a world in his mind where he could truly live happily.
However, his destiny was cruel and cold. If he didn't swear his allegiance, he might have become his knight like the legend.
" It is an interesting, yet unrealistic dream. Nobles and kings are the core of the kingdom and if they collapse, chaos will ensue for the citizens."
Tristan didn't believe such a kingdom would exist because humans were greedy monsters from birth. Even the most holy person would desire something as a mortal and such actions would be filled with struggle of power.
His eyes saw too many scenes and his mind was beyond broken from such struggles. So, he gave up on being a justice knight, unlike his friend.
" That is because you are weak and pitiful. If you have a mind and strength that can achieve results, you won't talk like that."
Harold didn't agree with his statement for he witnessed the glory of the true warrior. His closest friend won against veteran warriors at a young age and even killed them despite his loss. Moreover, he still tried to achieve what he promised to them even though he had more burden than anyone else.
" As you say then."
Tristan didn't waste his breath on arguing with Harold because he was a smart person. He simply closed his eyes to rest his mind but just as he was about to do that, he heard someone's footsteps.
" You are here, Halfdan. I thought you were with your mother."
Harold waved at Halfdan who was carrying his bow instead of his sword. He didn't wear any formal attire as he was in his leather armor and his eyes were calm as the setting sun.
" Hello, my name is Halfdan Magnusson. Leader of the young warriors."
His rough hand stretched toward Gawain and Tristan who were caught off by surprise because they could tell this man was stronger than these two young friends. Especially his bulging muscles and sharp eyes were telling them that not only his physical strength was great, he was experienced.
" Gawain and this is my friend, Tristan. We came from the capital to inform and congratulate your lord."
Halfdan smirked when he looked at them, knowing they weren't as simple as they looked. His beast-like instincts were warning that they could be dangerous if he fought against them.
" Do all capital knights train like you?"
Gawain couldn't tell what he was thinking but he was confident that Halfdan wasn't inviting them for a fight.
" We are elites and we aren't here to fight. Your friend gave us a quiet dilemma."
Halfdan turned his gaze to Harold who was attempting to slip away from him since he knew Halfdan didn't like unplanned things.
He would always meticulously calculate things and he would scold him after he would screw up.
" We will talk later with Arne, Harold. I believe you are quite light these days, might as well train with some mud."
The mud wasn't normal in any sense. This was a brutal training regime even for them.
