Apocalyptic Disasters: Carrying a bun and hoarding supplies

With just those simple words, Lei Qian eased Bai Meiyue's anxiety. She sighed in relief before closing her eyes and leaning her head against Lei Qian's chest. The pain in her body receded slightly.

Once Lei Qian returned home, he helped Bai Meiyue onto the couch and said to her, "Pack up once you feel better. We leave this place as soon as possible. What's the point of staying here when things have become like this already?"

He turned to look at his sister and said the same thing to her, "Go and tell Mom that we are leaving. There is no point in staying in this rotten place anymore. If we are going to fight the danger ourselves, then what is the point of staying in this place?"

Lei Yan was also not happy. In her eyes, Bai Meiyue was her sister-in-law, which made Bai Meiyue, her family. So, how could she not be upset upon seeing her in this condition? Lei Yan nodded and turned to walk out of the penthouse. She was going to tell her mother to pack up, as there was no point in staying here anymore.

Yu Miaomiao didn't give them the one thing that they deserved for staying in the base; thus, she could not blame them for moving.

Once she left, Lei Qian turned to look at the Bai brothers before saying to them, "You all pack up as well, we are going to get out of here as soon as possible. We are not going to stay here. Not even for another hour."

Seeing Lei Qian's anger and resentment, Bai Meiyue sighed. She pushed him away from her and said, "You are suffocating me; calm down. It's too hot."

Only then did Lei Qian restrain his temper, but he was still burning with rage. He held Bai Meiyue in his arms and asked, "Are you really alright? Should we not go and ask Shen Zhen to take a look at you and the baby?"

"I am fine. There is no need to alert Shen Zhen," said Bai Meiyue as she shook her head and then turned to the window. Her eyes were calm as she stared at the sky that had slowly turned dark. She didn't stop Lei Qian from moving because of the things that happened today; if they still didn't leave, then Bai Meiyue was afraid that Yu Miaomiao would take them as cowards. Did she think that she could try to corner her, and Bai Meiyue would be fine with it? She must be dreaming for sure.

She closed her eyes and tried to ease her breathing. Even though she told Lei Qian that she was fine, her pelvis was still hurting, and her legs were aching due to carrying the weight of her body for so long. She would need a long dip in hot water; only then would she be fine.

"I–"

Bai Meiyue didn't even get a chance to speak when there was a knock on the door. She raised her head and looked at Lei Qian, who frowned and then walked over to the door. As soon as he opened it, his expression turned sullen, and he went to close the door on the face of the man who had come looking for them.

"Brother Lei, there is no need for you to be so upset with me," said Fox as he stopped the door from closing.

"Get lost when I am being nice," snarled Lei Qian. "Or else you cannot blame me for trying to kill you."

He was furious. No one came to look for Bai Meiyue when she needed their help, and now that things had turned out alright and she was fine, this man came marching here as if everything was all sunshine and daisies.

"Look, I know that you are angry, but I came here in peace. I didn't even bring a weapon with me," he raised his hands in the air and showed them to Lei Qian. "I am just worried about Bai Meiyue. I truly didn't agree with the command that Chief Yu had given to us, and did I not send a bunch of ability users to help you even though it meant defying the order given to me by the higher-ups? I just want to see if Miss Bai is doing all right and the child is fine. I will leave after that."

"What do you want to say?" Bai Meiyue said to the man, she had long heard the quarrel between the two men and sighed. She looked at Lei Qian, whose expression was not good and then turned to look at Fox. "What is it?"

She was quite surprised when she heard Fox say that he had sent ability users to help Lei Qian arrive early, even though Yu Miaomiao had barred him from doing so.

"Say whatever you want to say! Or get lost if you don't have anything," said Lei Qian. Though Fox had indeed sent some ability users for his aid, he didn't feel grateful for it; he felt annoyed when he thought about how this man had been following Yu Miaomiao's orders till now. Just this connection was enough for Lei Qian to see Fox as an enemy.

Behind them, they heard the sound of footsteps, and Fox turned to see the Lei family. They were holding bags and boxes, which showed that they were not going out for hunting supplies but leaving because they wanted to get away from here.

"Are you leaving?" Fox asked the Lei family, his eyes flickering as he turned and looked inside the penthouse where Bai Meiyue lived. He could see the Bai brothers and Mother Bai running around packing this and that.

Seeing this sight, Fox sighed in his heart. He only felt that Yu Miaomiao really underestimated Bai Meiyue and Lei Qian. She thought that she could make Bai Meiyue submit and make her work for the base and its glory. But now not only did she fail in making Bai Meiyue submit, but she also lost such a powerful team of ability users. It was a classic example of losing the chicken as well as the eggs.
