With the help of the additional ability users who were sent for his aid, Lei Qian returned in an hour or so. He thought that he just needed to head out and look for the supplements that Bai Meiyue needed in the downtown before returning to the penthouse. As for the rest of the work, Bai Jixuan and Bai Zhan had already dealt with it, such as transferring half of the elderly to the mansion.

But he never thought that in the middle, a bunch of mutated bugs would attack them. It was a good thing that he and his team were already in the car when it happened, or else they would have been reduced to nothing but a puddle of blood. These mutated bugs were really terrifying; the second they attacked, they would end up cleaning everything up. Even teeth and bones weren't left behind.

And he didn't even want to get started on their surging numbers that were getting higher and higher with each passing hour. Due to their numbers increasing, the frequency of their attacks was also reducing. Because of this, even if he wanted to drive back and return home as soon as possible, he couldn't. Not with the overwhelming number of mutated bugs.

Thus, it was quite helpful when the other ability users from the base came to look for him and helped him deal with the mutated bugs; at least that way, he could focus on driving the car rather than burning the bugs.

However, the gratitude soon disappeared when he received a call from Mo He, who told him that something had happened at the penthouse. He rushed back home without caring about anything else. And upon his arrival, he saw a bunch of mutated bugs attacking the building. His eyes widened with anger when he saw that no one had come to help Bai Meiyue and her family and it was his wife alone who was taking care of the mutated bugs, as no one else was capable of doing it.

He stared at the icicles that had pierced through the mutated bugs and stopped them from entering the building, but the sight was still hideous as the mutated bugs started to eat the dead bugs.

Lei Qian was terrified. He was also really angry and stepped on the accelerator without thinking about anything else. He used his ability and started setting these bugs on fire; he was like a god of war who was determined to bring everything down for the sake of reaching Bai Meiyue.

Bai Meiyue was standing at the top of the stairs. She was now wearing a pastel yellow dress that she had gotten from her mother; after standing tall for so long, she was covered in sweat due to the extreme use of her abilities. Thus, Mother Bai asked her to wear a cotton dress if she was not going to take a break.

Bai Meiyue didn't tell her mother that it wasn't just due to the use of her abilities. She was sweating hard because of the pain in her body and pelvic bones. She felt really uncomfortable after standing for so long without getting a chance to rest. Her feet were already swollen, and after standing for more than three hours straight, her heels hurt so badly that she was close to fainting.

When she heard the sound of footsteps, Bai Meiyue raised her head, and she saw Lei Qian. All of a sudden, the pressure on her shoulders was removed, and she heaved a sigh of relief, though she knew she could have held on, but not without suffering greatly. It was a good thing that Lei Qian returned; at least now she could rest a little.

She heaved a sigh but found it was too hard to breathe.

"You are back," she said with a painful smile.

Bai Meiyue tried to straighten up her spine, but the second she tried to do it, pain zapped through her body, and she winced softly. Because the baby in her womb was getting bigger and bigger, her organs were being shoved back to make room for the baby. So, Bai Meiyue couldn't make a big moment. As she had stood for three hours, she was so tired that her spine was about to break. The second, she tried to straighten her back; her body couldn't keep up with her momentum, and it ended up hurting her.

Seeing Bai Meiyue wince, Lei Qian rushed over and hugged her in his arms; his eyes were filled with anger. He could more or less understand what Yu Miaomiao was trying to do, and it made him livid with rage. But he knew that he couldn't deal with that woman for the time being.

Instead, he turned all his attention to Bai Meiyue and asked, "Are you alright? Did I take too long to return? I am sorry."

He shouldn't have left her behind. He absolutely shouldn't have. He thought that the base was a safe zone, and Bai Meiyue would be safer here instead of going out with him. But the second he thought that everything would be fine, such a thing happened. To think that Yu Miaomiao, that shameless and heartless woman, didn't even mobilise one-fourth of the special team to lend a helping hand to a pregnant woman.

This world was really filled with cruelty, with no compassion. Even though the situation had changed so much, he thought that humans would still have some humanity left. It seemed like he underestimated the ambitions and selfishness of people.

Although Lei Qian was a fire-type user and his body had long turned as warm as a piece of burning coal, at that moment, his heart had turned cold as ice. He should have understood the cruelty of this woman when he was locked up in the Cloud City.

He hugged Bai Meiyue and brought her into his arms before taking her inside the penthouse to rest. "You can take it easy now; I have returned."
