Apocalyptic Disasters: Carrying a bun and hoarding supplies

Chapter 564: Saving Lives (2)

Bai Meiyue didn't stay to listen to the conversation between the two; she continued walking down the streets and ran into many of the ability users who were mobbed and attacked by the flesh-eating bugs. They were missing chunks of flesh and running up the street.

One of them saw Bai Meiyue and questioned, "Are the doctors in your hospital free?"

"They are not free. They are already tending to the wounds of those who were attacked by the swarm of flesh-eating bugs," replied Bai Meiyue. She recognised the man as someone who worked under Bai Feng's team. However, she didn't wish to kill anyone who had done no wrong to her nor did she want to stop someone from seeking treatment when they were hurt just because they were connected to the Bai family indirectly.

She said, "But I believe that Doctor Chou is done with last night's shift and he should be free. If you go now, then you can catch him before a line forms."

"Thank you for letting us know, Miss Bai!" The man nodded at her gratefully while cupping his arm that was filled with holes that were bleeding quite profusely.

Bai Meiyue nodded without saying anything. She watched the ability users run away and shook her head. These people, even though they had awakened, they were still not used to using their powers and couldn't control the flesh-eating bugs. If they had used their powers to the best of their abilities, then they would have never been injured to this point. It was quite a shame that Yu Miaomiao was rushing towards quantity over quality.

If she had only paid more attention to the ability users, who were already under her wing, then it would have been much better.

Bai Meiyue turned her gaze away and that was when her eyes fell on the four cleaning trucks that were driving over and cleaning the street where Bai Meiyue was, rather thoroughly. Bai Meiyue arched a brow. She knew what was going on. Chief Lin must have relayed everything that happened earlier at the penthouse to Yu Miaomiao. Though the woman was eager to suppress Bai Meiyue, she was no fool.

She must have understood that Bai Meiyue was still hiding her cards if she told Chief Lin that she could take down the entire base with a flick of her hand, and that must have troubled Yu Miaomiao quite a lot.

That woman must be afraid that Bai Meiyue would change her mind and attack the base if she was pushed to a corner, which was why she sent the cleaning trucks over to make amends. But what was the point? Those people who had lost their lives were already dead. Even if they were affected by the corpse poison if Yu Miaomiao had not used them, then at least those soldiers would have met with their loved ones before dying.

She shook her head and continued walking. However, just as she had turned around the corner, there was a yell and screams started to echo behind her. Bai Meiyue didn't think twice and created a shield to block the next tide of the flesh-eating bugs.

She glanced and looked at the soldiers who were cleaning the roads; unlike the ability users, these soldiers were commoners who had no abilities. Thus, they were quickly overwhelmed by the flesh-eating bugs. Realising that they could not get away, they started to shoot the bugs. But even though they killed a few bugs, they couldn't take down all of them.

There were too many.

The soldier driving the truck tried to close the window but by then the flesh-eating bugs had penetrated inside his skin. He started to beat and scratch his skin to get the thing out but he couldn't. Soon he started screaming as he tried to get out of the truck and tried to save his life, only to be gone in an instant.

Bai Meiyue saw the scenes in front of her and her heart suddenly clenched. She realised that she could no longer let her family stay in this base anymore. With the swarm of the flesh-eating bugs nesting close, they would continue to attack the base every hour or so. She couldn't wait any longer.

She had to send her nephews away first; they were young and couldn't control their powers that well. If they were caught in a mob of these worms, then it would be troublesome.

Bai Meiyue pursed her lips and decided to first send her brother and nephews to their new home and she would deal with the rest later on. Her mother wouldn't leave without the greenhouse, which would need some time for her to rearrange.

Bai Meiyue watched the bugs that tried to attack her but couldn't and suddenly felt a bit annoyed. Why did these things pop up so soon, couldn't they have waited for her to move before coming to cause trouble? Now because of these things, driving to the mansion had become dangerous and she would lose her mind worrying over whether her brother reached the mansion safely or not.

They didn't even have phones in their hands to connect, which meant that Bai Meiyue wouldn't even know if her brother had arrived safely. If these things had stayed put for a while longer, then she could have escaped with her brothers and mother safely.

'How annoying,' thought Bai Meiyue as she raised her foot and stomped it hard on the ground; the second she did it, the entire ground turned into ice, and small tendrils like icicles popped out that killed the flesh-eating bugs with ease.

With her taking action, the soldiers on the truck heaved a sigh of relief. Even though they didn't know how Bai Meiyue did such a thing, they were grateful to her; at least she had saved them instead of watching them die in front of her. They all thought that she was going to leave them alone.

Bai Meiyue pursed her lips as she watched the sight in front of her and then walked away. She had no intention of collecting the crystal nuclei of these bugs.
