Chapter 563: Saving Lives
"Yueyue!"
Mother Bai called out to Bai Meiyue; however, Bai Meiyue had already stepped out of the metal door and walked down the stairs without looking back. Mother Bai stared at her disappearing figure and sighed heavily. What should she do to that girl? She just won't listen even when the situation has turned chaotic enough.
Dear heavens, don't let anyone find out about the abilities of my daughter. Mother Bai could only pray in hope that her daughter would be fine. There was nothing else that she could do. Her daughter didn't listen to her and even when she tried to stop her to keep Bai Meiyue safe, her daughter would retort with countless excuses.
Mother Bai knew that Bai Meiyue had grown up and had many ideas but she was still eighteen in her head. She was still eight months away from turning nineteen. When she was nineteen, her head was filled with the thoughts of giving birth to Bai Zhan and raising him.
She never had any other worries, nor could she deal with them.
That was how a nineteen-year-old woman should be behaving in Mother Bai's head but looking at Bai Meiyue, who was shouldering so many responsibilities, Mother Bai was really worried.
Bai Meiyue, who had walked out of the penthouse, first went to the third floor. She carefully looked around and heaved a sigh of relief when she saw that none of the flesh-eating bugs had found their way to the third floor and everyone was safe here. She then headed down to the second floor and saw Xiao Wu and his boys digging through the corpses of the flesh-eating bugs.
They had already collected a pile of bean-sized crystal nuclei.
Bai Meiyue heaved a sigh of relief when she saw that everyone had been taken care of the flesh-eating bugs and there was no danger left behind. She then circled around the regions where she lived with her family and then went to the corridor where Bai Feng stayed. It was just as she had expected; there were still many bugs lingering as the Bai family and the survivors had moved. There was also the scent of blood and flesh, which nauseated Bai Meiyue.
She covered her nose and dealt with the bugs with a flick of her hand and then walked away before saying to Xiao Wu, "Tell a few of your boys to deal with the bugs on the third tower as well. You all can use the nuclei to collect supplies later on. Do it according to the current rate; if someone says that you are cheating, just tell them that there are no regulations about size and weight and have them count one bug nuclei as one crystal nuclei."
Anyway, Yu Miaomiao had never relayed any information about the size or weight of the nuclei. So, she couldn't blame her for using the loophole. Anyway, one bean-sized nucleus was still a nucleus.
When Xiao Wu heard Bai Meiyue's words, his eyes lit up. He smiled cheekily and shared a look with his boys who looked just as excited. They have counted these bean sized nuclei. The number of these nuclei had long crossed one hundred thousand, which meant that they could purchase a lot of things with them.
With that thought in their heads, they started working even faster. They didn't want anyone to make sure of the loophole before them and cause Yu Miaomiao to change the rules.
If Bai Meiyue knew what they were thinking, she would have told them that they were overthinking. No one knew that the flesh-eating bugs had crystal nuclei. Only she who was reliving her life knew about it.
Bai Meiyue headed out of the building and it was just as she had expected; the flesh-eating bugs had razed the entire base, with nothing left behind. After the swarm had passed away, the guards were cleaning the blood off the streets. However, Bai Meiyue knew that there was no point in doing so because the bugs would continue to attack this base now that they knew there was food for them.
Bai Meiyue thought about it a little and considered all the aspects of the problem before coming to the conclusion that she needed to talk with Sci Fi 240. That man had exchanged with her a few times and the defences from his time and dimensions were not only cheap but also quite sturdy and strong. She would ask him if there was something that she could use to protect an entire mansion.
If there was, then she would exchange a few jade rings and antiques with him to buy those defences, thinking about jade and antiques—Bai Meiyue pursed her lips.
She had been purchasing without holding back; because of this, the jade in her space had started to run out, if this goes on, then the barter system would become useless. She needed to get a new supply of jade and antiques.
With a sigh she turned to walk down the street and started looking around. Bai Meiyue knew that the base currently had no jade or antiques shop; even if it did, there was no point in trying to steal a batch of low-quality jade. What she needed was something good.
"Do you think we will stay safe here?" a woman asked her husband while peeking out of the small house that she had gotten after joining the base.
Her man glanced at her and said, "Go and look outside; it's even dangerous. The swarm killed almost everyone since they had no way to hide anywhere."
"It's safer to stay inside the base; at least we have a place to hide in case the swarm attacks us again."
Bai Meiyue pursed her lips when she heard the words of the man but she had to admit that what he said was indeed right. Even though the base was not a good place with someone like Yu Miaomiao leading it, it was still better to stay in the base than outside.
