Chapter 550: Her Two Nephews Were Bitten!
"Then we will make sure that she never finds out anything," Bai Qingshi said to Chu Xia. In the past, he didn't want to bring the child to his side, but Master Huang told him that it would be beneficial to them in case the truth of the matter about what they had done ever came to light. That was also the very reason why Bai Qingshi had never done anything to Bai Feng's eyes and let them stay as they were.
If he had known that the world was going to end one day, he would have at least changed the looks of Bai Feng a bit more, such that Bai Meiyue would never recognise that man's true identity. Now this was good; Bai Meiyue was gaining more and more strength, and Bai Feng was slowly getting dissatisfied with them.
Even though he didn't say anything after returning from the mission and finding out that their family had moved under Yu Miaomiao's care, Bai Feng had grown even more alienated from them. If not for the years of hard work and brainwashing that they had done on him, Bai Qingshi was certain that the man would have given up on them and would have left them to die.
They couldn't allow the two siblings to find out the truth.
When Chu Xia opened her mouth to speak, he harshly stopped her, "Think it through, Chu Xia. You don't need to worry about just Bai Meiyue's reaction. By chance, if Bai Feng got to know about the truth and he realised that we have lied to him all his life… Do you think he will let us off? Why would he do that? Because of all the kindness that we have shown him in the past?"
"Have you forgotten what you did to him?"
Bai Qingshi's words jolted Chu Xia awake. She pursed her lips and thought of the things that she had done to Bai Feng when he was a child. Not to mention the things she said to him, she often told him about how he was just an illegitimate child, and it was she who was showing him mercy by letting him stay with her. She was truly being kind.
There were times when she even beat that boy up. She would lock him up and starve him, and the next day she would tell him that his situation was still better than other children. At least he was not starving in a slum or an orphanage. That she had given him a place even though he was the child of a maid.
Now that Chu Xia thought about it, she realised that she had only been worrying about Bai Meiyue. If Bai Feng found out that he was never an illegitimate child and that Bai Qingshi and she had always lied to him and had hidden him away from his real mother—he would never let them go.
When Bai Qingshi saw that his wife had understood the situation, he nodded and patted her on the head before saying to her, "Keep this truth to yourself and keep it safe. If those two kids find out the truth, then forget about breathing— we might not even leave a bone behind."
Now that the conditions were like this, there was no law. Even though Yu Miaomiao insisted that there were rules and regulations to follow in the base, Bai Qingshi knew how many people were following the rules. Just this morning, he saw a bunch of men trying to mob and steal things from the old and the weak.
The guards didn't even say anything as long as these people shared the loot with them.
Was Yu Miaomiao not aware of these things? She was. She just didn't care about these people who served her no purpose. These survivors were useless in her eyes, and thus, even if they died, it would do no harm to her. Thus, she stayed quiet.
Just like him and Chu Xia. They were not awakened, nor did they have any skills of something of the sort that would differentiate them from the others. The only support that they had was from Bai Feng, and if that man turned his back on them, then they might as well be prepared to die.
Chu Xia gulped heavily, and her heart turned even heavier. This secret she might as well die with in her belly!
On the other side, Bai Meiyue had no idea that the Bai couple were living in fear because of her. When she killed those soldiers, she had never wanted to make use of the chicken to warn the monkey, but if she had known that Chu Xia and Bai Qingshi's days were getting harder because of her, she would have certainly been pleased.
But she wasn't that pleased at the moment. She had bartered off a few fever medicines and handed them to her anxious-looking elder brother. "You need to calm down, Elder Brother. Even if the children are suffering from fever, it doesn't necessarily mean that they will turn into zombies. Maybe they might awaken."
"It's all my fault." However, Bai Zhan didn't seem to have heard anything that she was saying and was still blabbering. "All my fault. I saw three zombies running at us, and I left the kids behind me. I should have known that they would be attacked with so many zombies coming at us from all over the place.
Bai Meiyue frowned when she heard the words of her brother. According to her elder brother, the factory was completely deserted when they arrived, but when they walked inside, a wave of zombies suddenly erupted, and he was almost buried under them.
If Bai Meiyue was not wrong, then there was a chance that there was a zombie king hiding around the factory. Only a zombie king was capable of controlling zombies so well.
"If you are going to blame yourself, then you might as well start blaming me, Big Brother!"
