Apocalypse: Transmigrated General’s Daughter Uses Space to Survive

Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Meeting Ye Xuan

"That's true. We can only fight for peace like before through battle."

"And since we have the same superpower, we can finally determine who is stronger in a fight. Hahaha …" Grandpa Li laughed but it was not for long before a bucket of cold water was poured on him.

"Too bad for you, I have awakened dual superpowers. I have both metal and thunder. So, you still can't beat me. Hahaha…"

The two old men have been competing like children since they were young, and even in old age, they still find reasons to fight about. They would argue about whose business was better, whose children or grandchildren were doing better, and other petty things. And now they had something else to compete about.

It was a mystery how two old respected generals could fight like children. But it also showed the depth of their friendship.

After hanging up the phone, everyone had breakfast and left the house together.

Since the zombies seen in the streets were very slow and yet a threat to them, they decided to drive their regular cars and not the military-level vehicles Grandpa Chu had bought.

As the elevator descended to the 19th floor, it stopped and with a 'ding' sound, opened. Then, the family of six found themselves face-to-face with a man handsome enough to put some gods to shame, and everyone froze for a moment.

Even Chu Miao, who had memories of two lifetimes, felt her heart flatter for a second before it settled.

As the family was shocked, Ye Xuan outside the elevator door was also astonished. He had finally seen the woman in his dreams, and she was more beautiful than in real life than in any dream he had.

He was almost mesmerized for the first time in his life. However, he showed no inappropriate expression on his face and came back to his senses in only two seconds.

He straightened his back immediately and gave Grandpa Chu a standard military salute.

"Good morning, general." His voice was not loud, but it was powerful and had a pleasant hoarseness that could get a woman pregnant. Well…maybe not that exaggerated, but it made Chu Miao's heart skip a bit.

Anyone could see the respect he held for Grandpa Chu on his face. He was not giving a perfunctory salute because of rank, but because he held the retired general in awe.

Grandpa Chu returned the salute and invited him into the elevator. The elevator could accommodate up to ten people without being crowded, so all of them could go down together.

Ye Xuan stepped into the elevator and greeted everyone else before moving to a corner.

His behavior was very respectful.

He had shed the formal suits he had been wearing for the past two years and went back to his military gear. He was currently dressed in camouflage pants, an army-green t-shirt, and military boots.

"Are you a soldier?" Since the man had greeted him with a standard military salute, it showed his profession, but just to be sure, Grandpa Chu asked.

"Retired major." Ye Xuan replied respectfully.

"You are already retired, and you were already ranked as a major at such a young age. You must've been a great soldier who contributed significantly to the country." Grandpa Chu continued to make conversation as the elevator descended.

He could tell that the young man was only about 27 years old at most.

"I joined the army when I was seventeen, and retired two years ago at twenty-five because I wanted to help my grandfather run his business." Ye Xuan provided. He felt it was polite to volunteer the information instead of waiting for the general to ask.

"You look a little familiar, but I don't think I know you."

"My name is Ye Xuan; my grandfather was General Ye; he passed away three months ago."

Only after hearing Ye Xuan's reply did Grandpa Chu realize who he was. He had heard about this young man many times. He was praised as the youngest major in the history of the country who had risked his life to conduct extremely dangerous missions concerning the safety of the country.

He and his team had thwarted numerous terrorist attacks that could've devastated the country, and even after retirement, if the country was in danger, he would still go on missions to protect it.

He had nothing but admiration and respect for the young man. So when he heard him introduce himself, he reacted with a lot of respect and gave him a military salute. Even though the other was two generations younger than him, he didn't mind.

"You have done our country proud. You have done even better at protecting it than us old fellows did. And my condolences for your loss."

"I have only done my duty. Thank you for attending my grandfather's funeral."

"He was an old friend, I couldn't miss his final send-off. Since it looks like we live close, we will interact more in the future; you don't have to be so rigid; just call me Grandpa Chu."

"Yes, Grandpa Chu."

As Ye Xuan replied, the elevator stopped on the ground floor and the door opened.

"Alright, we'll leave now. Be careful when you go out." Grandpa Chu said as his entire family started walking out of the building.

"Thank you for your concern. You too, be careful, Grandpa Chu."

Ye Xuan did not follow them out of the building but instead waited beside the elevator. It looked like he was waiting for someone.

They all went to the garage. Chu Hao asked his grandfather. "Grandpa, why did become so respectful to that guy when he introduced himself?"

Grandpa Chu sighed before replying, "That young man has contributed more to this country than many people in positions of power could ever do. He would rush to do the most dangerous missions that no one else would dare to do just so that the safety and stability of the country is not shaken."

"Most of the missions were classified but us old guys still knew. Unlike other soldiers with relatives in powerful positions who used their connections to advance their careers, he earned his rank as a major when he was twenty-two years old through his efforts.
