Chapter 30: Chapter 30: Awakening New Superpowers
People on the streets had also been affected as many turned into mindless flesh-eating monsters and attacked the healthy people.
Luckily, after the initial panic, the desire to live stimulated many people who had not turned into zombies to escape for their lives and run home.
Those far from home found other places to hide such as convenience stores or office buildings. They didn't care about breaking and entering being a crime as long as they didn't get eaten by those monsters.
Due to such stimulation, some people actually benefitted as their potential was stirred and they ended up awakening a superpower.
Looking at how people complained while others rejoiced after surviving made Chu Miao conflicted.
She knew since the prophecy had already started to be fulfilled, it inevitable that the apocalypse would come, but she didn't expect that when it came, it would be such a disaster.
She checked other news websites from all over the world and realized that the situation was the same everywhere. What was even more disturbing was the complaints about the high temperatures.
Since her family were cultivators, unless the temperature was uncomfortably high, their bodies would automatically regulate their temperature and might not notice something a miss.
Like now.
She stood up and picked up a thermometer from a drawer on the coffee table and placed it on top of the table. Her family didn't understand what she was doing at first, but soon they understood.
Looking at the thermometer that showed that the temperature had risen to 38°, they were shocked. Though people had been complaining about the changes in temperature recently, the highest recorded temperature had been 33°.
But in just one night, the temperature had risen by 5°. It was simply shocking.
She then saw a headline highlighted in red announcing the government's decision. The gist of it was asking people to stay indoors and not go out to avoid getting injured or killed by the monsters roaming the streets, while they conduct investigations and find a cure for the virus.
"The government isn't really run by such naïve people is it?" Chu Miao finally broke the silence.
"Are you talking about how they said they would find a cure for the virus?" Her grandfather asked.
"You've seen it too?"
"We had just finished reading when you came. The government is not that naïve. Those old guys are probably doing this to give them a buffer time to use the military to secure supplies before the ordinary citizens realize what is happening and raid everywhere." Grandpa Chu said.
"Even though it's a trick, it will prevent more people from getting infected and turning into zombies. But those rich and powerful are not stupid, they will also use this opportunity to accumulate supplies." Father Chu couldn't help but complain.
"That's true. Right now there are too many cases of infections and even with the government issuing a warning for people to stay indoors, many will still go out to look for supplies and the crime rate will be off the charts.
In two hours, the police will not be able to respond to the reported crimes anymore. And with this, chaos will ensue. But this is also the best time to collect fresh supplies and purified water because no one knows if that fog affected the tap water." Grandpa Chu replied.
"Then why don't we go out and collect supplies too? Even though we prepared a lot, after hearing Bunny say we could live for over 500 years, then the supplies we have are just a drop in the bucket." Chu Hao suggested.
The family looked at each other and agreed.
"Chu Hao is right, but let's split up and go to different places to collect the supplies. That way we can cover more ground and collect varieties of goods." Grandpa Chu instructed.
"Grandpa has a point. We all have a space ring so collecting supplies separately is the best option. We should move before others realize what is happening and start to scavenge." Chu Miao added.
"Yes, the government might have reassured people, but apart from those who like to rely on others and are cowards waiting to be saved, most people in our country are smart, they will figure out what is happening soon and start to find ways to protect themselves and survive, then the world will descend into anarchy." Mother Chu finally spoke.
"Then let's split up into three groups. Chu Hao, go with your sister to our family mall and collect supplies there. We can't let our hard work benefit others. Chu Mo go with daughter-in-law to the food processing factories in the west side of the city and collect food. There are many food processing factories there and we can get a variety of canned goods.
I will go with your second grandpa to the slaughter house on the east side of the city. The meat that was supposed to be supplied today should still be very fresh, but if it is left for another day in these high temperatures, it would spoil. Let's go after breakfast."
After grandpa Chu distributed the tasks, he decided to call his friends and advice them about doing the same. He did not want to be the only surviving old man by the time people started to adapt to the apocalypse.
When he called, he was not surprised to find out that his friends had already figured everything out and we're also preparing to take action. After all, most of them were in the government and understood what was happening.
Grandpa Li told him that apart from one of his daughters-in-law, everyone else in their family had awakened a type of superpower. Even he had awakened a gold-type ability.
"Hahahaaaa… .old friend, it looks like we are fated to be friends as we awakened the same superpower." Grandpa Chu laughed as he talked to grandpa Li.
"You also awakened a metal superpower? That is incredible. We can fight in the same battlefield together again like in the old times. The era of peace has made us forget how it felt to be hot blooded going into battle."
