Chapter 29: Chapter 29: First Night of the Apocalypse
"Let's stay indoors today and observe. With the kind of chaos going on and zombies running rampant in the city, the government will not have enough personnel to maintain law and order."
"Moreover, because of the changes happening, people are panicking and due to fear and frustrations, many will turn to crime; murder, robbery, and arson to vent their emotions.
In that situation, there will no longer be fear of authority. It will be our chance to go out and collect more supplies. We don't know how long the apocalypse will last, so it's better to collect as many supplies as we can to be on the safe side."
"So, we should wait until everyone is out committing atrocities to go out and get supplies?" Lei Ying asked.
"With the rate at which people are turning into zombies and more are infected before understanding what was happening, it won't the long before everything falls apart. Two days at most." Ye Xuan said again.
"If we could awaken such superpowers because of the fog, that means that the zombies could do the same. So we must learn how to control the powers before venturing out. Learn how to use it to attack and protect ourselves." Added Ye Xuan as he looked at the lightning flashing on his hand.
"Alright, we'll go back and practice."
All of them got up and left, leaving Ye Xuan alone who looked to be in a daze looking at his hand.
Ye Xuan was wondering what super power that beautiful girl in his dream had awakened. Considering everything that happened in his dreams, he knew she was not ordinary and must have awakened a strong superpower.
Soon, he let out a sigh and stopped thinking about Chu Miao. He needed to practice and become proficient in using his lightning and ice superpowers before the day after tomorrow.
That's right, he had awakened two superpowers, he just didn't tell the others after seeing their excitement.
He started to form ice arrows and lightning whips and spears. At first he didn't know what to do and only followed his imagination, but as he gained more control, the arrows, whips, and spear became more solid.
It looked like he had found the trick.
Chu Miao woke up at 7.00 am. The first thing she did was to use her divine sense to examine her body. What she found shocked her.
She had been at the peak of Qi level one for a while and was looking for an opportunity to advance. She didn't expect to breakthrough in her sleep on the first night of the apocalypse.
Moreover, she had gone straight to the mid-stage of level two. Now her dantian had more spiritual power and if she needed to fight, she could last longer. She could teleport too.
After being happy for a while she stopped to continue her examination then realized that her dantian was much larger than it should be for a person with a level two Qi spiritual energy.
She couldn't understand how that happened. Even though she came from the cultivation world, this was new to her.
As she finished her examination she was surprised to see that her hand was wet. She concentrated and soon a stream of water as thick as her pinky trickled to the floor.
This shocked her but she soon realized that on top of her spiritual energy she had also awakened a water-type ability because of the fog and fever last night.
In that case then the expansion of her dantian could be explained. But how would the two types of ability work?
She had no idea, but she would figure it out later. Now she needed to see what happened to the rest of her family.
Thus, she ran to the bathroom to freshen up and headed to the living room.
As she was about to open her bedroom door she thought of her teleportation ability and stopped. She decided to test it.
So, she thought of herself in the living room and in the next moment, she appeared on the sofa next to her brother.
Chu Hao was so should that he screamed and jumped off the sofa like he was on fire. After his screaming he realized that the rest of the family were looking at the sofa he had been on with gaping mouths and wide eyes.
He turned around and found his precious little sister there.
"What the hell Bunny! How on earth did you appear next to me without a sound? You scared me to death."
"Scaredy cat. All I did was teleport here from my bedroom."
"You think seeing someone appear out of thin air makes me a scaredy cat? Why don't you try it and see if you don't collapse from a heart attack?"
"Alright, stop making a fuss. Your sister was only testing her ability. What are you screaming for?" Hearing his father shut him down like that, Chu Hao grumbled.
"You were shocked too, why are you pretending like you are fine?" He then shu his mouth and went back to sit with his sister.
"Bunny, you advanced too?" Her grandfather asked
"Yes, did you guys advance as well?" She turned to observe the others and noticed that the energy fluctuations around them had intensified. Indeed, just like her, they had advanced in their sleep.
"Yes, we were just talking about it before you came. Grandpa is now at the peak of Qi level one and so is your brother. Your father, mother, and second grandpa are in the late-stage of Qi level one.
It looks like that fog brought both a disaster and a blessing." Grandpa Chu sighed as he said this.
Looking at everyone's expressions, Chu Miao knew that something else must have happened. She grabbed her phone and logged on to the internet to check the situation and there were reports of people turning into monsters everywhere.
Most of the people who chose to run to the hospital after the mass fever had turned into zombies after getting there as hospitals had become the primary infecting zone due to the high number of patients with low immune system.
Their bodies were too weak to fight the virus spread by the fog that caused the high fever. Only a few with stronger bodies managed to survive and awaken superpowers.
But without knowing what was happening and delaying to react and escape, some awakened people still died after those who had turned into zombies attacked them.
