Chapter 282: Not Time to Die Yet
Until two days ago when he ran out of water completely. Since he had only been taking sips of water and not really drinking to his body's satisfaction, he was dehydrated before the day ended.
When he realized that he would not be able to survive, he had sat on his favorite chair and decided to leave this world on it.
Some people would get confused as to why he would get dehydrated when it was raining heavily. Why didn't he just drink the rain water?
He had thought of this as a solution before, but seeing as how people had turned into zombies without warning, he couldn't be careless. Thus, he took some rain water and fed it to his only companion in that building, a rat.
He didn't even know where the rat had come from. It appeared there one day when the water started to flood the building. He assumed that its home had been flooded as well, which was why it moved there.
He had given the rat the rain water for two days when he realized that its eyes had started to turn red. He feared for the worst so he had locked it in a small cage that had been lying in the laboratory before.
As expected, the rat had turned into a zombie rat the next day. That was when he realized that whatever virus had turned people into zombies was also present in the rain.
Maybe not in such a heavy dose since it took a couple of days for the rat to turn into a zombie when in the beginning people turned into zombies a few hours after exposure. However, the virus was there and he could not risk turning into a zombie because he was too thirsty and drank contaminated water.
As such, he had ended up dehydrated almost to death because of lack of clean drinking water. Now, seeing so many people around him, his first thought was that he had died and crossed to the other side.
It looked like even in the underworld there were law keepers. But he didn't think he had done anything to warrant so many law enforcers surrounding him with weapons. Could dying of starvation be considered a crime here? Otherwise, why were they here for him as soon as he arrived?
However, this thought was shattered when he heard a familiar voice calling his name.
"Mu Nan, how did you get locked up in here?"
That voice was very familiar to him. It was the voice of their associate professor who happened to be leading a project that could revolutionise communication. He had joined that project from the beginning and was the reason he got locked up in the first place.
He had been too busy doing research to notice what was happening outside. By the time he found out about people turning into zombies, the campus was already overrun by them and he couldn't leave even if he wanted to.
He had no choice but to go to other offices to search for any food, snacks, and water within the building to help him survive.
He had found a substantial amount of food and snacks, but being locked in there for almost two months, he had eventually run out of food and water.
He was quite happy to see someone he recognized and forced a smile that could not even be identified as a smile on his emaciated face.
However, everyone in that room could feel his joy. They could see that he had recognized Yang Leo, which eliminated the possibility of him being a zombie. Hence, the few people moved close with Yang Leo in the lead.
He was about to move him to a more comfortable spot on the sofa when he was stopped by Murong Yi.
"Be careful when you move him. His body can't handle trauma at the moment, so be careful not to hurt him in the process." Murong Yi said while walking to the other side of Mu Nan to help him move.
With the two men working together, they moved the weakened man to the sofa and laid him in a comfortable position.
He was still weak and could not talk, but fortunately, the medicine in the water was working.
"Should we inject him with glucose? It should be able to give his body some energy. I don't think giving him medicine with the body being an empty shell is very useful." Li Kun, for once thought of something useful.
"Mmmm….get glucose and an IV kit, hook him up with glucose. We will continue our mission once he has enough strength to drink soup. Do you have any soup with you?" Gu Fan agreed with Li Kun's suggestion and even went further to postpone the mission until they had stabilised Mu Nan.
They could all tell that he was important to Yang Leo and since he was one of them, they had to help him save those he wanted to save. Hence, Gu Fan made the call to delay the mission for the sake of saving a teammate's person.
"I think I do. Too bad my space can't keep things hot and fresh as long as brother Hao's space can. But I bet the soup is still warm, so he can take it." Li Kun replied while taking out the liquid glucose and an IV kit to inject the glucose into the patient.
Pei Ming was the only one with some medical knowledge among the group and even his ability wasn't deep. The only reason he knew how to inject people and do first aid was because his family has many doctors. He had picked up a few skills here and there while listening to conversations at home.
However shallow his knowledge in medicine was, it was enough to help hook Mu Nan up on IV. Hence, he finished setting everything up in a few minutes.
The few people watched from the side and everyone found a place to sit and wait for the IV to be done.
