Chapter 43: Feeling better

Once Jean, Noah, Truckdriver, and Roeas returned to their room, RedStar glanced at Rargnes before leaving.

As he walked in the corridor, he lost his composure, his figure shaking, and his eyes widened in shock.

"RedStar?" asked Jean. RedStar turned to face him.

"W-what?"

"Tell me, what happened?"

"I told you I won't speak about it."

"I can ask other goblins or people; it's fine. But we can be in the same boat if you talk to me. I don't want to hurt you."

RedStar rubbed his chin. "I..."

"You goblins love money, ain't it so? I don't want much. I just want that once we forget everything on that land, I can still live a good life by having citizenship and all."

"There's not much I can do."

"So you can indeed do something." he came close to him, whispering in his ears. "Listen, I got three guesses: either he dies, he becomes a demon, or he has power. The power the noble want."

A pursed appeared on his hand. "All for you if you speak."

"It's not really that..." said RedStar, hesitating before the greed in his eyes got the better of him as he pocketed the purse. "A power had been used against him."

Jean's eyes squinted. "You mean it is near?"

"Possibly so! I hear the noble got himself a power, the power of fairness. He wants to kill all the men with power so he can steal them! Even if Rargnes has no power, he will suspect it; he might detect it!"

"And thus, he can stumble upon Sengrar with his power, right?"

"I have no proof of that..."

Jean smiled at his words, "Yeah, no proof, only certitude."

As Jean walked back, he murmured:

"Okay, I'll keep this conversation a secret and ask you a few times in the future if you did so, too."

"Of course... of course."

"And you won't do any action, will you?"

"Not regarding that."

As Jean watched the goblin leaving the place, he entered his room and said aloud, "I'll go make a promenade."

'So... it seems all goblins are greedy for money, and Sengrar might be the one who did this... I don't feel like he is that kind of man, but there's too much suspicion going on.'

A few days passed, and Jean concluded that RedStar wouldn't betray them. He did not think goblins could lie, but they might have a way to change their mind for a period of time, which would allow them to speak of their truth during interrogations.

The fact people thought they were at a disadvantage in communication gave them an even higher advantage. Wouldn't all goblins watch their tongues? Didn't they all only mimic their ways of talking?

The administration goblin might just hope the noble would remain on earth till their memories faded away, but he doubted such carelessness.

---

After quite some time, Rargnes was back in health, chasing with others. This time, the thoughts that always appeared in his mind seemed to have ceased to exist.

He found back the pleasure of being happy for Sengrar's success.

"So? What's the situation?" asked Rargnes

"We got all of our citizenship rights; even if we forgot all, we'd live a good life," said Jean

"Sengrar recruited people to help," said Yurs

As he watched them, he saw all of them having new gears.

They descended to the first floor and watched a relatively weak group depart through the portals, then followed suit. As the group turned to see who had followed them, Sengrar opened fire. Magic burned their bodies as they rolled in horror, trying to extinguish the fire with the ground before missiles of spiked ice pierced their bellies.

The survivors fled from the attack.

Yurs raised his mace and smashed a wounded man, tackling and tying him up.

They encircled together the strongest and maced him down. As he fell, they took out his armor and distributed it to the other members of the group while Rargnes drew a knife and slashed into a crescent moon, sliting the man throat.

Feeling energy entering him, Rargnes began to practice immediately. Joy filled his every cell as he nourished them.

He gave a strong blow to the ground, creating a small crater.

"Nice!" he yelled.

Such a meal needed time to be fully consumed, but the effect of his strength rising together felt better than wine.

Sengrar laughed and punched, creating a crater two times as big.

Taking a few captured warriors with them, they returned.

"We even sold them now?"

"We kill the strongest for energy, then we sell the weak. They are worth far more. Don't forget our objective: the noble."
