Chapter 42: Illness

When RedStar arrived in the evening, he found him lying down, feverish. He quickly called the others.

"It's the disease," said Sengrar, observing Rargnes, half-drunk.

"Ah? Did you see it before?" asked Roaes.

"Yes, someone with the same magic and skills as Rargnes got ill."

Jean confirmed. "It's the same symptoms as back then."

RedStar asked around and found that the solution was to buy magic potions.

But magic potions were expensive.

"Nope," said Jean. "We agreed on distribution; he can't afford them; it's his problem."

Only Roeas and RedStar bought magic potions to help him, with their money and Rargnes'.

Truckdriver entered the room while the others were busy.

"So, did you have fun beating me back then, huh?"

He spat on Rargnes, who murmured incomprehensible things and kicked him, making him groan.

"What are you gonna do, asshole!"

He took out his phone and videoed himself doing all this, then left the room, not wanting to listen to Rargnes' murmurs anymore.

"It's a dream," he said weakly, his head swollen, his body red in his bed and sweating profusely, the pain palpable on his face. "It's a drug... the best drug..."

As Rargnes was writhing in pain, his forehead boiling, he talked out loud.

"It's the Prime Minister! He wants nothing to change! He wants to maintain this situation; he's allied with the noble! He's allied with him! We must defeat him! Oh... King! Even in this world, he turns everything into an apocalypse just to keep his central position! This dream! He's turned it into a nightmare! Poor prime minister... poor Rargnes... he must be killed!"

RedStar was watching over him, reading a book while the others were hunting.

"This is coming from the statue... Sengrar... tell me... where is the king? Why doesn't he control the Prime Minister? Why? Haven't I been a good minister, too? Why is the prime minister so wanted? He even corrupted the second minister... they want this world to be a constant apocalypse, they don't want the king to awaken! He must be awakened! We need to go beyond the noble's domain... we need strength! The voices! The voices, damn it! Stop talking to me! Ahhh! The voices!"

RedStar approached him, thinking back about the statue they got from the tutorial.

He reported it to the group, which came back empty-handed.

"Did you feel anything strange in that opportunity?"

"There were illusions," said Sengrar.

"Oh..." RedStar tone became somber.

"What?"

"it might be a demonization then. The demon is trying to control him while he is weak."

"Is there any way to stop it?"

"We can only pray."

---

In the inn, at night.

Everyone was gathered in Sengrar's room, watching over Rargnes as they talked between them.

"I hear them!" says Rargnes, in his bed, wearing the ring to give him health for nearly a week. "I... I..."

He slowly blinked his eyes and saw the following:

[Simulation Rargnes-empathetic.]

[Tutorial with RedStar and Sengrar]

[Makes wishes with his teammates]

[Catches the disease]

"The red statue! The red statue!" he was saying nonsense. "Everything is false... I... I'm just a pawn? A pawn for two people at war? The world! The world! I want to go back, go back to where I was, where no one can control me," Rargnes said.

The others, including Sengrar, looked at him apprehensively.

"He's completely lost it," Jean thought.

"We don't risk transmission?" asked Noah

"No risk, a demon can't enter us this way."

"Oh yeah? How can he enter us then?"

"He needs a receptacle," RedStar said, suddenly looking over in shock at Rargnes. "He..."

Rargnes's eyes were dipped red, turning into a purple color.

"What?" asked Roeas. "What's happening? Is the demon winning?"

"The chances are against him."

"What happened exactly?"

"I wish not talk about this," said RedStar

"What?" Sengrar asked, "he could be dying!"

"Yeah." RedStar hesitated so much that he forgot to open his mouth to speak. "But there's nothing we can do for him to go better, not without spending a lot of money. Do you still wish me to tell you the following?"

None asked.
