Chapter 31 - The Old Madam is Back (2)
An Yun subconsciously looked toward the source of the noise. He didn’t know if it was his imagination, but he felt that the noise was a little louder.
After a while, An Yun thought that Old Madam Zang must be really interesting and liked lively scenes, so she wanted to make the mansion lively.
However, regardless of who had come back, as long as it wasn’t the young master, An Yun felt that the matter had nothing to do with him.
Therefore, An Yun just muttered a few words in his heart and then continued to eat his meal. Chef Zheng’s skills were indeed improving day by day.
After An Yun finished lunch for a while, Xiao Cui came in on time carrying the medicine.
Compared to the excitement she had shown when seeing An Yun in the past, Xiao Cui’s face today looked a bit worried, and her brows were tightly knitted.
Seeing her like this, An Yun immediately became interested and asked directly, “Why do you look so nervous? What happened?”
Xiao Cui raised her head and glanced at An Yun, seeming a little confused. After a moment, she said, “Fulang, why don’t you drink the medicine first? After you finish drinking the medicine, we’ll talk about other things.”
An Yun became more curious about what Xiao Cui wanted to say. Seeing that she insisted on drinking the medicine first, he followed her instructions.
After An Yun finished drinking the medicine, Xiao Cui hesitated for a moment, pursed her lips, raised her eyes to look at An Yun, and whispered, “Fulang, the old lady is back; you have to avoid her.”
An Yun listened to Xiao Cui and looked at her with even more confusion, obviously unable to understand why she suddenly said this.
Xiao Cui seemed very troubled, but she appeared to be genuinely worried about An Yun, so she continued, “The old lady hates shuanger the most, especially the young and beautiful ones. The servants in this house are all chosen based on her preferences.”
An Yun felt a little strange and didn’t understand why the old lady hated shuangers, and why she hated them so much. But when he asked Xiao Cui, she couldn’t explain clearly and just told An Yun to remember her words.
Ever since he had met Xiao Cui, she had been very kind to him. Therefore, after Xiao Cui reiterated her warning, An Yun nodded and promised that he would never be an eyesore in front of the old lady. Xiao Cui breathed a sigh of relief.
An Yun was worried about not provoking Old Madam Zang, but Old Madam Zang must have heard An Yun’s name from somewhere. When An Yun was taking medicine after dinner, she actually sent someone to call him over, saying she wanted to see what the little shuanger brought back by her son looked like.
When An Yun saw the people sent by the old lady to invite him, his heart skipped a beat, and he had a bad premonition. This feeling intensified when the maids and aunties who came over forcefully stopped Xiao Cui and Lu He from following. As he was being led away, his unease grew.
An Yun felt that if he went there, it would be like attending the Hongmen Banquet*.
Xiao Cui and Lu He were stopped and watched An Yun leave, with a hint of anxiety in their eyes.
Xiao Cui was extremely anxious. Although she was a low-level maid, it was because of this that she had heard a lot of gossip. She knew how the strict old lady dealt with shuangers who were sent to the mansion.
The old lady was so disgusted by having an ordinary looking shuanger stay in the mansion; she didn’t know how much hatred the old lady had for a beautiful one here. Moreover, this shuanger was brought back by her own son but was now raised by her grandson.
Furthermore, An Yun was not only so beautiful but also delicate.
If something went wrong and Old Madam Zang decided to attack the fulang, Xiao Cui feared that An Yun’s fragile body would not survive.
Xiao Cui was so anxious that she didn’t know what to do. As a maid, she had little power, and no one would pay attention to her.
Suddenly, she thought of Qing Yue and remembered Qing Yue’s attitude toward her last time and what she had said. This gave her a sudden boost of confidence.
Xiao Cui turned to Lu He and said, “Sister Lu, you stay here. I will go find Miss Qing Yue and tell her about this, to see if she can think of a way to rescue the fulang.”
Lu He, who had originally considered going to Qing Yue herself, hesitated but nodded after hearing Xiao Cui’s plan.
As Xiao Cui lifted her skirt and left, Lu He thought of An Yun’s thin body and couldn’t help but sigh. She only hoped that the old lady would be more merciful this time; otherwise, she feared that when the young master returned, their little life might face trouble.
.
On the way An Yun was being ‘invited,’ he felt that the old lady not only liked excitement but also seemed to enjoy luxury. The decorations along the way were extremely gorgeous, clearly displaying her wealth.
When he arrived at the old lady’s room, he felt a chill even before he entered. The room must have been kept extremely cool with a lot of ice.
An Yun was pushed in and, at first glance, saw a richly dressed and luxuriously adorned old lady sitting at the top. She should have had a particularly kind appearance, but her scrutinizing eyes made her seem a bit difficult to approach.
An Yun guessed that this person must be Old Madam Zang.
When Old Madam Zang saw him, she first looked him up and down twice, then snorted and said in a stern tone, “Sure enough, he comes from a dirty place. He really doesn’t understand any etiquette. How can you be so rude when you meet me?”
