Chapter 31 - The Old Madam is Back (1)
An Yun was melancholy because he couldn’t go out and felt isolated due to the identity he had acquired after crossing over. However, he was only depressed for a while, and soon the melancholy dissipated because he started working on lip balm.
The future was still far away, so An Yun had to focus on planning for the present.
After working for an hour and a half, they were only halfway through the lip balm process. Xiao Cui went to the kitchen and An Yun had to rest.
An Yun returned to his room, took a sip of water, and then went to his desk to make two additions to his plans for the future.
He made a note that if he wanted to pay back Xiao Cui, he needed to save her share of the money. If he could obtain her sale deed, Xiao Cui would be free by then.
After adding these notes, An Yun picked up his plan again, looked at it carefully, and confirmed the most important part of it.
That was, he needed to go through Young Master Zang to accomplish all of this. Only when he was in a good mood and granted his approval could An Yun’s plans be realized step by step.
Thinking of this, An Yun recalled the news from the kitchen, which said that Young Master Zang had gone on an inspection with Zang Ke, and his return date was uncertain.
When he heard the news, An Yun felt a little disappointed. He had come up with several meals and desserts to please the young master, but now these things would have to be postponed.
However, An Yun was still curious about what Young Master Zang was doing with his father. From the familiar attitude of the servant who came to inform him, it seemed that Zang Ya often followed him out.
An Yun had even asked a few questions at that time, wondering why the powerful father would take his only son out, but the servant couldn’t explain clearly.
It seemed that Zang Ke often took Zang Ya out on such trips. Occasionally, the personal guards who followed them would return with injuries, indicating that not every outing was to a safe place.
From An Yun’s observations during this period, Zang Ke, the city master, was extremely indulgent and doting on Zang Ya, his only son, almost protecting him like a precious treasure.
However, even though he knew there was danger, he still took his son along. This didn’t seem like the behaviour of a loving father but rather that of a strict one.
The Zang family’s method of raising children seemed very contradictory to An Yun. On the surface, it appeared to be extreme doting, but in practice, it was different. An Yun couldn’t quite understand why they did this.
Later, An Yun thought about it, and he felt that the Zang family’s method was a combination of a strict father and a loving mother. But because these roles were both embodied in one person, it seemed particularly contradictory.
An Yun couldn’t help but get goosebumps when he thought of this description and then shuddered slightly. He found the description a bit unsettling.
But turning his thoughts around, An Yun remembered that since he had entered this house, apart from Zang Ya and Zang Ke, he had never seen Zang Ya’s mother or the legendary figure who often travelled outside, Old Madam Zang.
However, no matter what happened to the Zang family, these matters had nothing to do with An Yun. What he needed to do was to lay low, accumulate money, find a way to survive, and then look for an opportunity to leave.
As An Yun thought this, a sparrow suddenly flew out from the window. It perched on the branch of a tree, chirped twice, and then flapped its wings and flew away.
An Yun watched the dusty backs of the sparrows as they flew off, feeling that although they were small, they were very free. With a flap of their wings, they could go wherever they wanted.
The wind chimes shook, and the crisp sound of bells rang out.
After a while, Lu He came in and said to An Yun, “Fulang, lunch has been brought in. You can go and eat.”
An Yun nodded, put away his plan, and walked outside.
In the past few days, since Zang Ya had been away, An Yun had stopped going to the kitchen. All the food he ate now was prepared by Chef Zheng according to the recipes given by the doctor.
It had less salt, less oil, less spice, and the taste were extremely light. Ordinary people might have found it tasteless after eating it, and thus would not have had much appetite.
Fortunately, the ingredients used in Zang Mansion were the freshest, and both the meat and vegetables were of the highest quality, so even with such little oil and salt, the dishes still tasted delicious.
An Yun had been a little uncomfortable eating it at first, but after gradually getting used to it, he found that the dishes were quite good as they were.
.
While An Yun was eating, there was an extremely loud noise coming from outside. It seemed like someone was running, and the coming and going was particularly lively.
Ever since An Yun had entered the Zang Mansion, he had never seen such a lively scene. He couldn’t help but be curious and even wanted to go out and see the excitement.
But as soon as An Yun moved, he remembered the time when Zang Ya had beaten someone up for running around, and he immediately gave up the idea of joining in the fun.
Although An Yun didn’t look outside, he couldn’t hide his curiosity. He muttered a few words casually, his tone full of doubts.
Lu He listened beside him. After hearing his doubts, Lu He spoke and told him that Old Madam Zang must be back. Only Old Madam Zang could create such a lively scene in the mansion.
Note
