Chapter 22 - Sickness (1)
Zang Ya sat on the mat, looking down and observing the movements of the two people.
His eyes were deep, and no one knew what he was thinking.
Below, An Yun and Xiao Cui had been busy all afternoon, doing things step by step according to the steps he had memorized.
They washed the rose flowers and placed them in clean containers for fumigation. After the fumigation was almost complete, they wrapped the flowers in gauze and squeezed them to collect the juice inside. The crimson juice dripped from the white gauze, drop by drop, and fell into the container, melting into a puddle of crimson liquid with a hint of petal fragrance.
After turning all the rose flowers into a semi-dry and fragrant juice, they put it on a low fire and boiled it. After boiling out the water and leaving only the concentrated juice, An Yun added beeswax. When the two were mixed together, An Yun squeezed in some more lemon juice, and when it was about to come out of the pot, he added some ice slices.
Finally, he carefully poured the liquid into the small porcelain bottle he had bought and waited for it to take shape.
While An Yun was doing this, Xiao Cui watched the whole process. At that moment, she was still a little nervous looking at the crimson lip balm being poured into the small porcelain bottle and slowly solidifying. “Fulang, is this ready yet?”
An Yun nodded, staring at the slowly solidifying liquid, his expression still a bit serious. “Well, it should be done, right?”
In fact, it was the first time An Yun had done this, which made him a little unsure. But looking at the quality, it should be fine, right?
The two of them waited for a while, watching the lip balm gradually turn into a semi-dry and semi-solid substance. Xiao Cui finally couldn’t hold back and said to An Yun, “Fulang, why don’t you try it first? Let me see the difference between this product and the high-end lip balm in the store. If you don’t try it, you can’t tell the difference just by looking at it.”
An Yun hesitated, feeling a bit awkward. Using such a product seemed a bit out of place.
However, Xiao Cui had a point. Even if he felt confidence, what if it wasn’t done well?
After a moment of hesitation, with Xiao Cui’s expectant eyes on him, An Yun dipped a little lip balm on his lips and waited for Xiao Cui to see if it was the same as the high-quality ones she had seen in the store.
When Xiao Cui saw An Yun turn his head, her eyes lit up for a moment, and then she said happily, “Fulang, you look so beautiful.”
An Yun’s body was inherently good-looking. Although he was thin, he had a certain fairy aura about him.
Moreover, An Yun had been well cared for by the Zang family during this period, and his face had gradually gained some color. His cheeks were a lot rosier, although his lips were still pale, showing a bit of weakness. But it made people’s eyes stuck at first sight.
At that moment, An Yun looked so fragile, as if he would float away in the next second. But the touch of red on his lips brought him to life, like a black-and-white ink painting with a beautiful immortal stepping out of the painting and turning into a stunning beauty standing before everyone.
Xiao Cui glanced at him, her eyes shining. She looked at An Yun and said in surprise, “Fulang, you look so beautiful like this.”
The praise in Xiao Cui’s tone was sincere, and her eyes were full of amazement.
An Yun almost couldn’t bear the look in her eyes. He turned his head slightly and whispered, “How do you think the lip balm I made compares to the lip balm you saw in the shop?”
Only then did Xiao Cui react and quickly said, “It’s the same. It’s even more moisturizing than the lip balm I saw in the shop, and it looks even better.”
An Yun smiled, and with this smile, his face, which had gained more color from the lip balm, became even more gorgeous.
Xiao Cui was stunned. It was the first time she had seen An Yun smile so candidly.
An Yun looked at her dumbfounded expression and moved his gaze away uncomfortably. He wiped away the bright color from his lips, stared at the twenty-four boxes of lip balm he had made and said softly, “Do you think if I sold this lip balm for one tael a box, would anyone buy it?”
An Yun’s lip balm boxes were half the size of the one Zang Ya had given him, but he felt that the capacity and pricing were a match. Although the quantity was small, it was easy to carry!
Xiao Cui was a little disappointed when she saw An Yun wipe off the lip balm from his lips so quickly. After hearing An Yun’s question, she was a bit puzzled but, after thinking about it, said, “Someone will buy it. After all, fulang’s lip balm is almost the same as the one in the shop, and the lip balm of this quality in the shop costs five taels of silver per box. Your lip balm is so cheap; there should be people who like it.”
“Then did you think the maid in this mansion would buy it?”
In An Yun’s memory, compared to the people on the street outside, the maids in this mansion were actually the closest and best targets, because they were quite wealthy, and their food and clothing expenses were all covered by the mansion. There was also monthly money given to them.
Moreover, except for some maids who were in charge of special places, the rest of the maids who had entered the mansion were not allowed to leave except on their days off.
If their monthly money did not need to be handed over to family members outside the house, they could keep it to themselves and actually save a lot of money.
Hearing this, Xiao Cui thought about it and said seriously, “I think it should be possible.”
Women were all fond of beauty, not to mention the maids who served dignitaries in the house every day. Although they could not show off too much, they still yearned for it in private and secretly bought some new dresses for themselves, looking forward to being as beautiful as those noble people.
Even though they could not wear it in the mansion on weekdays, they could wear their best dress and put on their best makeup on the day they went home after a break to prove to their families that they were living a good life.
Therefore, girls who usually dressed simply would put on their best clothes and paint their best looks on the day they were allowed to go home for a visit, returning home in their best appearance.
