Chapter 35: A plan, and a long walk
After sitting next to Weiss for who knows how long, I felt her moving a bit. She soon began to wake from her nap and was still drowsy.
"Did you sleep well?" I asked her, she only stared at me with a drowsy look, but she shook her head.
"No, my body hurts." She said while hugging herself, I couldn't really do much in this situation.
I could only sit next to her, wrapping the both of us with a blanket. Even with the blanket, Weiss was shivering from the cold, so I ended up hugging her.
She didn't bother pushing me away and snuggled closer, wanting to feel warmer. As we sat in silence, I decided to see if I could keep her distracted.
"Weiss, why do you dislike your father?" Hearing me ask this, she didn't answer at first.
"It was during my birthday, I had just turn ten and my family, except my father, where there to celebrate." She said and began to close her eyes, she looked like she didn't want to continue, but she opened her eyes.
FLASHBACK POV WEISS
We were in the dinning room, Whitley was next to me and was happy to celebrate. My sister was also there, she wasn't as excited as Whitley, but still wanted to give me a happy birthday.
And then, my mother, she was the one who brought the cake. I saw her bringing it in with a smile, and there where ten candles.
"Who's ready to start?" My mother asked with a pep in her step, as soon as she placed the cake in front of us, the three of them began to sing.
After they finished, I noticed their was one person who was missing.
"Mother, where is father?" I asked, hearing my question, mother frowned and was about to leave to find him.
But before she could reach the door, the door swung open, revealing my father. He had veins on his head, and saw the four of us.
"What are you all doing here, where is dinner?!" He said shouted, I flinched at his voice.
"We will have dinner soon, but now that you are here, join us, it's Weiss's birthday." My father just scoffed at her words and was about to leave.
"Where are you going, do you not care for your family?" Hearing this, my father slapped my mother, causing her to stumble onto the floor.
"Family? Family?! Woman, I don't care about family, I only married you because of the money your family has, the power your family holds." Hearing this, my mother widened her eyes.
"B-but you said you loved me, you loved our children." Tears began to threaten to spill, but she was given another slap.
"I don't care about them, they are mere tools for me to gain more power and money." He then saw the cake on the table and soon pushed it off.
"Get this filth cleaned, and have the servants send dinner to my office." He Said and left us, leaving my mother crying, my brother scared, and my sister fuming with anger.
As for me, I sobbed quietly and looked at the cake that was thrown to the floor. And my hatred on my father only started.
FLASHBACK END
"That's the story on why I dislike him." I said, finishing the story.
I could see Aiko looking at me, not with pity, not with guilt, but sympathy. I was confused, he had a family, he didn't have to suffer, why was he showing me sympathy?
"I'm sorry to hear that, it must have been hard for you." I didn't want him to look at me with sympathy, I wanted to scream at him.
But being hugged by him, I could only sob, hugging him back with all the strength I had. I felt safe, like I was wrapped in a warm blanket, laying on a bed, with my worries being left behind.
As I tried to look at him, I thought I saw him with white hair. His eyes were read, and I thought I could see multiple tails around me, but I didn't stay awake and soon fell asleep.
POV AIKO
As Weiss fell asleep from exhaustion, I sighed and continued to hug her with my tails. I brushed a hair that was loose behind her ear, and shuffled to make her comfortable.
I placed an illusion around us, to hide my real form. So that no one could know, was it selfish of me to do it for Weiss?
Yes.
But if you had someone that you know who suffered from abuse, neglect, and trauma, would you really turn a blind eye?
'Poor girl, she has suffered greatly because of her father, and on her birthday no less.' Said my mother.
'I agree, if I was her grandfather and I heard what he said, I would have sliced his arms.' I could only sigh at what i heard from Weiss.
'Is there a way to force her father to be nicer?' I already knew one way, but I wanted to know if they also knew another way.
'We could have our scientist create something to change his personality, but that'd be boring.' I was not surprised about what my grandfather said, since they became advanced in the past.
'Still, I think it's best if we remove him from the picture, we can make him attack us.' I was interested at what she meant, so I asked her.
'Since most of the materials use dust, we can try to find if their are any dust veins in Menagerie.'
'We can make our own dust company, one that is a competitor against the SDC, we have our prices lower than his, making Atlas to want to buy from us.' I could see where she was going with this, but I stayed silent.
'All the while we have someone in the SDC, making them work their way up until they are close to Jacques himself, or as one of the board directors.' I nodded my head at what she said.
'After words, we can slowly convince the other directors to try and provoke us, stealing the Faunus in broad daylight. Trying to push us away.'
'Using their greed to blind them of the the consequences, and giving us the right to defend ourselves.' I thought and began to grin at her words.
'How exciting, I didn't expect you two to actually come up a plan for the long run.' My mother only chuckled at my compliment.
'My son, we are Kitsunes, we are praised in the light, cursed at in the dark, yet no one can stop us from doing whatever we want.' My grin widened even more, and I began to feel like a certain manipulator.
'Well then, shall we get started?' I asked them, I had one of my family members summoned and were given instructions on what to do.
They knelt before me at what they received and soon left us, shrinking themselves through the cracks, and running off to the night.
As soon as they left, Elm and Harriet soon returned. Holding the somewhat burnt map, Elm cleared her throat, catching everyone's attention.
"Alright, so the two of us have found information about a trade meeting, but since the people here have…. Died. We are going to take you to the location." Harriet then stepped up and placed the map on a makeshift table.
"Once arriving here, we can contact the Atlas army, where they'll be able to rescue all of us." Hearing this, the people began to cheer.
Some began to cry at the news they they'll be able to go home. But they all had one thing in mind.
'We're free.'
"Get everything we need, shoes, food, fire dust, anything to keep us warm." The people began to scramble to find anything, creating sleds for the weak and children.
While others crafted torches to create a source of light, and some began to make makeshift cloaks.
Weiss began to stir awake in my arms, but I didn't change my appearance for her. She rubbed her eyes at first, trying to get rid of her exhaustion.
"Aiko, why do you look different?" She asked, I only smiled and fixed some of her hair that was messy.
"That's because your tired, your seeing things." She nodded at my lie and soon began to feel drowsy again.
"You feel...so comfy." I only smiled and stood up, letting my tails carry her.
"Alright, is everyone ready?" Hearing Harriet's question, everyone cheered and got ready to head out.
The people began to tear down the door, and soon was greeted by the harsh cold of the snow.
The children and elderly instantly huddled close to one another, trying to keep each other warm.
While the people that could walk lit a torch to see each other. The harsh wind howled around us, threatening to snuff out the torches.
We couldn't see much in front of us, nor we could hear each other clearly. But we pushed on, not wanting to face any Grimm.
Elm and Harriet were the ones that led all of us, with the map in their hands, and their scrolls to keep track where to go.
As we made our way through the snow storm, I looked back to help some of the people who struggled.
At the same time, I looked over my shoulder to see how Weiss was doing. She was still asleep, but I could see her shivering, I had my tails coil tighter around her.
While at the same time I covered her body with my flames, only enough to keep her warm and not burn her.
Feeling the warmth from my flames and tails, she was able to snuggle into my tails with a smile on my face.
I moved a piece of cloth on her head to block out the snow, and continued to walk forward.
Was it difficult to keep track? Yes, with many people who were kidnapped, I had to look back to make sure they didn't wander off.
Some of the people were already landing on their knees from the cold, tired and hungry. I guided them to the sled and grabbed the rope to pull them.
I was now pulling a sled with some adults, children, and elderly. While at the same time, barely using my flames to keep them warm.
I had no choice but to put Weiss with them as well, covering her hair so they wouldn't do anything to her.
After walking for who knows how long, I caught up with Harriet and Elm, I called out to them at first, but the wind silenced my voice, so I had to grab Elm by her arm.
As she looked back and saw me, she looked at me with a what you need look. I raised my hand and began to write, using my flames to speak.
"How much farther?" Reading my words, she showed me her scroll, looking at it, we still have two hours to go.
I could only grit my teeth in annoyance and sighed, I wanted to keep a low profile when it came to using my semblance, but desperate times require desperate measures.
'Mom, could you help us?' She didn't respond, I was afraid that she was going to reject, but I felt my aura drain a bit.
Looking into the storm, I saw a single blue light shining through the storm. I smiled and knew she was helping us, I decided to play along.
"Look over there!" Hearing me shout, the people all turned to the light. Seeing it, some began to smile, including Harriet and Elm.
"Come on, we can make it, we just have to push forward!" Shouted Elm, raising the moral to the people.
We all began to follow the light, getting closer with each step. While we stared at the light, we felt ourselves full of energy and warmth.
We felt like we could survive, to see ourselves reaching a new day. Even the cold was something we couldn't feel, our bodies felt warm as we stared at the light.
After following the light for who knows how long, we soon arrived at an abandoned mine shaft.
The people tired to search for the light, to thank who guided us, but I knew who it was. My mother had returned, joining my grandfather in the mind scape.
'Thanks mom, for helping us.' I could feel her smiling, and her arms wrapping around me.
'I will always help you when you need us, we are family after all.' As we rested, we soon saw a bright light shining down on us.
Looking up, we could see a bullhead coming down. The people all cheered, hugging one another, crying that they will get to go home.
That is, until the sound of gunfire rained down on us.
