Chapter 36: How to make the rich treat you nice

Have you ever thought about what would happen if you stared at a barrel of a gun? You'd think its not a problem you won't get shot.

But what if it was loaded, what if you knew it was aimed at you, what if you knew that you were going to be shot? You'd feel scared, scared that you are going to feel the pain, scared that you'll have a scar and be called ugly, scared to die.

That's what was going to happen to the people who were kidnapped. Unless someone stepped it to stop the bullet to protect them.

So, I did.

I would be stupid to expose myself in front of them, I wouldn't deny it. But Weiss was behind me, on the sled with defenseless children and elderly.

If I had let them die, I'd be more human than Faunus, I'd be going against the very thing I wanted to strive for, so hate me all you want.

I raised a wall of flames, solidifying it just enough to reflect the gunfire. I dropped the illusion that made me look normal and exposed my true form.

The people who were behind me were scared at first, they tried to protect themselves from the gunfire. But when they felt no pain, no piercing from the dust, they opened their eyes and widened them from shock.

A large wall of flames stood in between us, and the people who are shooting at us. They all knelt when they saw me standing in front of them, with me facing the wall.

Once the gunfire stopped, I dropped the wall and stared at the bullhead that opened fire. Looking at it, I saw Atlas solders aiming their guns at us.

"Where is Weiss Schnee?!" Shouted one of the solders, hearing them shout, it pissed me off that they tried to intimidate me without apologizing.

"Why should I tell you?! You shot without checking if she is with us!" I exclaimed, this caused the solders to look at one another, realizing their mistake.

"Not only that, there are two Ace ops here, who helped us escape!" I pointed at both Elm and Harriet, seeing them both, this caused the solders to pale in fear, lowering their weapons and saluting them.

"We're sorry ma'am, t-this won't happen again!" The bullhead then landed and the doors opened, allowing Elm, Harriet, me and Weiss to enter.

But when the people also tried to enter, the solders aimed their weapons at them. The people were scared and began to back away, but not before one of them was gripped by the solders and face Harriet.

"What the fuck do you think you're doing?" The solder raised their hands, but spoke with a scared voice.

"W-we were ordered to b-bring Weiss a-and her companions, n-not any s-stragglers." This time, Elm took action, pinning the solder on the wall.

"You'll bring them along with us, that's an order!" Hearing this, the solders reluctantly lowered the guns, allowing the people to quickly enter.

As soon as everyone entered, they all began to cry in happiness. They were finally free, but their problems had just begun.

'Should we send them to Menagerie?' I asked my mother, since all of them were traumatized from being slave.

'Yes, they will heal when they arrive at your home, we can ask the general when we arrive.' Hearing her confirm my idea, I sighed in relief.

But my relief soon disappeared when the people began to surround me, I was worried that I was going to face a problem.

But one of the people grabbed my hand and knelt before me, crying and thanking me for protecting them.

"Thank you, because of you, we have escaped, we are forever in your debt." He said through broken sobs, the rest of the humans and Faunus soon knelt as well, thanking me.

What made my situation more difficult is that I wasn't disguised, in my eyes, I was just an exotic Faunus.

But to them, I was some sort of deity in their eyes, someone who came to their rescue and guided them to safety.

What's worse, I saw one of the solders took a picture of me, holding Weiss in my arms. I didn't want any more problems to happen, nor did I want to deal with any more kidnappers.

I didn't know what to do, I was already dealing with multiple people thanking me. I couldn't just push them away and take the scroll.

'I wish I could just wipe their memories.' I thought, but before I could think of any more complaints, a seductive voice appeared in my mind.

"Fufufu~ so you wish to erase their memories? I will do you a favor, little boy~." Before I could ask the woman, the sound of a clock was heard.

Tock,

Tick

TIME SKIP

We soon arrived at Atlas academy, stepping off the bullhead, multiple solders guided the victims to the infirmary.

While Elm, Harriet, and I went to find James, Blake, Ilia, and Sienna rushed towards us.

Blake was the first to tackle me onto the ground, crying and rubbing her face on my chest.

"Aiko, Aiko, your okay!" She wailed, her tears and snot began to stick to the tattered suit I had, but it didn't matter.

"Sorry for making you cry, Blake." I rubbed her head to calm her, but it only made her cry harder.

"I-I was scared, scared that you'd leave me! I thought I did something wrong for you to not come back!" I felt an arrow of guilt pierce my heart, if blood could come out, I'd be spraying it like a fire hose.

"Blake, I would never do that." I panicked and began to look at the others. Ilia as smiling with tears in her eyes, and Sienna…

She was grinding her teeth hard, her veins were bulging on her head. While my instincts told me to run the fuck back to mom.

"You….. You!" I closed my eyes to prepare for the pain, instead, I felt another pair of arms wrap around me.

"You damn idiot, you made me worry!" She shouted, her eyes were closed, but I could see the tears swelling in her eyes.

I was surprised at how she was acting, since this was the first time I saw her about to cry. I could only hug her as well, rubbing her hair to sooth her.

And finally, Ilia. She stood their silently, looking at me with an empty look. Her fists were clenched tight, tight enough to draw blood.

I was worried on what was happening to her, but she instantly hugged me from behind. I could hear her sniffling as well, her tears staining the back of my shirt.

"It's okay guys, I'm back." I said, the three of them all moved back to give me space, James and Jackcass, I mean Jacques, who looked at me with disdain, but quickly hid it when he saw Weiss in Elm's arms.

"Ah, thank you, thank you for bringing my daughter back from those bandits." I could only stare at him with disgust, seeing how he reacted when he saw me.

But I didn't do anything for now, I had to play the victim card to make him think I am still weak. But that didn't mean I wasn't going to do anything about it.

'We're pushing the plan now, I don't care on how soon it is, the sooner we start causing problems for him, the better.' I told both my mother and grandfather.

'As you wish. We will start to clear the rest of the island when we return.' I was pleased by this and began to make other plans.

"It wasn't us who saved your daughter sir; it was him." Harriet pointed in my direction, Jacques brow twitched at first, since he was about to thank a slave.

But when he saw me, his eyes showed shock and rage. I could only smile at what he had to do, and I was relishing every moment.

He walked up to me with hesitation, but with multiple eyes looking at him, he forced himself to continue forward.

"I-I must tha-." He looked like he wanted to vomit, but he swallowed and pushed on.

"I must thank you, f-for saving my daughter." He finished, he then forced himself to offer his hand.

Since I was covered in dirt and grim, he was shaking. I wasn't surprised about this, but I didn't care and decided to do something he can't do.

I rushed up and straight up hugged him, causing his crisp white pants to be stained with dirt and dust.

He flinched at my hug and wanted to push me away, but seeing the people around us, he had no choice but to pat my head.

"W-why y-you seem like a k-kind c-child." He said with a strained smile, but in his eyes were pure rage.

I only gave him a mocking smile and soon let go, revealing the stain I placed on his clothes. Seeing the stain I placed, Sienna coughed to hide her laughter.

"A-Aiko, let's get you back to the academy, you need a good cleaning." She said with a giggle, guiding me away.

Jauqcues could only fume quietly at what I did as I left, I was glad that I was able to cause some problems for him.

"Aiko, you just made my day from doing that." Sienna said to me with a smile on her face, but it soon turned into a frown.

"But I can't forgive myself for losing you, I thought I had failed your father." She looked distraught at what had happened.

Seeing her act like this made me feel guilt on a whole new level, not only did I make Blake cry, whome I cherished a lot, I made Sienna feel worthless.

I ended up hugging her, catching her off guard. Blake and Ilia stopped, seeing what I was doing.

"It's my fault, I didn't expect them to kidnap me while accompanying Weiss. Blame me." Hearing me say this, Sienna just sighed and knelt down.

"Kid, as much as I want to, I'd just be an asshole to you for the rest of the trip." She then hugged me back and.

"I promise you, I'll get stronger and will protect you." Was all she said and began to guide me back to the room we were staying in.

As we continued to walk, James soon caught up with us. He had a guilty look on his face and knelt down.

"Aiko, I wish to apologize in behalf of the entire Atlas army. I promised you that we would protect you, but we failed, and I had two of my best soldiers get caught." I just placed my hand on his shoulder.

I smiled at him with his apology and decided to give him some advice.

"A man once said this to his son, don't be sorry, be better." He was surprised, but chuckled and shook his head.

"Don't worry, we'll be better." He then left and placed his hands behind his back, he held his head high and in his eyes, a look of determination was seen.

"Where did you learn that, Aiko?" I just turned to Blake who was curious.

"From a book." Was all I said, Blake was unsatisfied with my answers, but with how tired I look, she didn't bother to pry any further. As we walked, I began to plan the next move I could do when returning back to Menagerie.

I knew I had pushed my idea to create a dust company ahead, and I had sent someone to infiltrate the SDC.

But if I wanted to pull the strings behind the scene, I needed contacts, and a lot of them. The best way to do so, is to be hired by people.

If I send more of my family to complet jobs, I could gain favors, using them in the long run to gain an upper hand.

And finally, the third and most secure way to manipulate things, is blackmail. Always have blackmail when it comes to controlling people.

If you have blackmail, you have a leash to tug.

"By the way, when is the protest?" I asked Sienna, she only turned to me and pulled out her scroll.

"It's tomorrow."
