A Kitsune in remnant

Chapter 34: To be a saint, hide the devil

After healing most of the people in the room, Elm and Harriet soon returned with dark looks in their eyes.

"Any good news?" Hearing my question, both Harriet and Elm took a glance at one another, but shook their heads.

"Sadly, we got none." Elm said while sitting down on a large chunk of rubble. Harriet herself only leaned against the wall and closed her eyes.

"What's worse, we're stuck in a storm, which cuts out any communication to the outside. We're sitting ducks out here." I could only sigh at the situation, while also shiver from the cold.

From what I learned, Faunus's are more resistant to the cold. But when it comes to a snowstorm like this, we can't last long.

"Is there any blankets or fire dust that we can use?" I asked, hoping that there were some supplies we could use.

"Weiss came back with some supplies, most were blankets and some heaters that required fire dust.

"We don't have enough, most of the heaters were destroyed from the attack." I could only frown at our situation, and curse at my grandfather.

'What? It's not my fault you got kidnapped twice.' I couldn't really come up with a retort of my own, since what he said was true.

"For now, we need to have everyone share some blankets and heaters." Both me and Weiss began to carry the blankets she brought to the people.

Making sure they were sharing each blanket with one another, while at the same time, hauling the heaters to the groups as well.

Besides the heaters, I began to look for scraps of wood, wanting to make a makeshift barricade to block the cold.

Seeing me do this, a couple of the people also began to help. They grabbed whatever they could, wood, stone, even some clothes that were still in good condition.

Once the barricade was finished, the temperature increased just a bit. Since the warmth couldn't go anywhere, the people began to shiver less.

"Is there any food?" One of them asked, and the group that left to scavenge what was on the base, brought out multiple canned food and some meat.

The people wanted to scramble towards them, wanting to have a bite of the food. But a shout was able to bring them back from their desperation.

"Back up, back up!" Shouted Elm, who then raised her arms into the air, stopping the people from hurting one another.

"Look, we don't know if we have enough supplies for everyone, so wait and let us sort the supplies." The people were impatient, especially the men, they were thin and were desperate to have a good, cooked meal.

But they had no choice but to refrain themselves, they didn't want to be pushed around by the ace-ops and have less portion than the rest.

While sorting the supplies, Elm and Harriet were able to find multiple types of bread, butter, salt, and even sweets.

Seeing all of it, the people began to grow restless, wanting to sprint and grab anything from the pile.

I was slowly getting worried on what might happen, so I quickly formed the harp and began to pluck the strings.

The sound of the stent began to reach their ears, slowly calming them down. Some even began to look sluggish, leaning against the wall to sleep.

Once they all looked more relaxed Harriet and Elm continued to separate the food, they looked more relaxed now, seeing that they won't be pushed around.

I still kept playing the harp, not wanting to let my guard down one bit. However, in the corner of my eye, I saw something happening.

It turns out, it was one of the men who captured us. He was pretending to be one of the slaves by wearing ragged clothes like the rest of them, what's worse, I could smell blood.

Fresh blood.

I continued to play the harp, hiding my rage with a gentle smile. But underneath I was glaring at the man from the side, figuring out a plan to make him suffer.

"Alright, we're done splitting the supplies." Hearing Elm speak, the people all looked up with hope and joy.

"Do we have enough to go around?" The two of them glanced at each other, they then sighed and looked at us.

"Yes and no, we have enough for the people, but it won't be enough to last us a week." This made everyone worried, since snowstorms in Atlas are unpredictable.

"Is there a way to tell where we are?" This time, Elm smiled and nodded her head.

"Yup, we were lucky enough to find a map that was still intact." She said and pulled it out.

Looking at the map, I could see that we were more north in Atlas, closer to the mountains. This explained why the temperature was more dangerous, and why there was a snowstorm.

"Does that mean we need to go by foot?" Asked Weiss, this caused Elm and Harriet to shake their heads.

"No chance, we don't have the time nor speed to reach the city before freezing to death." Me and Weiss slumped at hearing what Harriet said and decided to just sit down.

Hearing that we have no way back, Weiss began to whimper silently, hiding her face behind her knees. I could only hug her to comfort her, which she instantly recuperated.

"I'm scared, I want to go home." She sobbed, shivering from the cold. I could only wrap a blanket around us, while only staring at the small heater.

"We'll get back, I know we will." I reassured her, while patting her back. She sobbed for a few more minutes, until she fell asleep from exhaustion.

As she was asleep, I kept staring at the man who disguised himself as a slave. Each time I saw him glance at us, he would quickly look away.

'He is a threat, we have to get rid of him.' My grandfather spoke.

'And how are we supposed to do that?' I asked, I couldn't really just say, hey follow me, I'm going to kill you, and expect him to follow.

'What about the meeting spot that the man mentioned?' I mentally faceplamed myself for forgetting that, so I gently moved Weiss to lean against the wall, and made my way to tell Harriet and Elm.

Once telling them what I heard when I woke up, they quickly searched for the scroll. They soon found it hidden in the pile we made to block the entrance, and began to look through it.

What made me dissapointed was the fact that the man didn't bother to place a password, this was bad as the time i saw someone said that a boiled egg was a fruit.

Who could be that stupid to think a boiled egg was a fruit?

But back to the situation, once we opened the scroll, we found that the people who were supposed to pick up Weiss were given a location.

The location was much closer to us, there was an abandoned dust mine. Judging on how long the distance is, it seemed that it would take us a few hours.

It was enough time for us to walk there, and since they were meeting us in a few hours, we could signal for help.

But what worries me the most, is who would be there. Would it be James? Would it be Jaqcues, or would it be some random Atlesian elitist?

"Seems we can make it, sure we would be suffering through the cold, but I don't know about the victims." Elm said with concern, Harriet wanted to suggest something, but kept silent.

I only turned to look at her, staring at her with no life. I could already tell what she was suggesting, but I didn't want to jump to conclusions.

"Harriet, do you know have a plan?" I asked her with no emotion, hating me speak, she shivered and forced her self to look at me.

"W-we can lea-." Before she could finish on what she wanted to say, I gripped her hand and squeezed it.

While at the same time, my illusion dropped. My eyes began to glow a bit, and my voice lowered to a whisper.

"You will do no such thing, you say you want to protect the people." I then began to slowly lift her up.

Placing both my hands on her arms, Elm tried to pushed me away. But my tails soon wrapped around her, holding her in the air.

"If you do that, you are no better than those rouge huntsmen, liars, cheaters, filth that should be hanged, picked, whiped, impaled, stabbed, flayed, and drowned." I contined to stare into her eyes.

"You will take them with us, you will not abandoned them." My flames began to leak out, slowly heating the entire room.

"And you will make sure we are safe." The map was starting to burn, and the stone began to turn into a liquid state.

"F-fine, we'll take them, just let us go!" Harriet said with a hoarse voice, once I released the both of them, I smiled and began to calm down.

"Good, I'll go back to Weiss now before she wakes up." I said and began to leave them alone.

As I made my way back, I began to think if I went too far with them. Since I did strangle Harriet, while also holding Elm in the air.

But my thoughts were inturrupted when I was snatched to the side, and felt something cold and sharp aimed at my throat.

"You scream, you die, you try to struggle, you die." Looking ever so slightly, I could tell it was the man who was watching me.

"I know what you really are, you fucking nine tailed freak. Your going to make me rich." He hissed while holding the blade closer.

As he held me close, I could hear my heartbeat in my ears. And the smell of iron was strong, too strong.

'Blood, why does he smell like fresh blood, who did he kill?' Those thoughts ran through my head, and I slowly gripped his arm.

Seeing that I was about to pull him away, he tried to dig the sharp edge of the blade into my neck.

Only to realize he can't move, he pushed and pulled as much as he could. Yet his arm stood still.

"L-let me go, let me go you freak!" He moved his other hand, trying to pry my hand off his arm.

I then turned around, staring into his eyes with my own. I began to drag him down to my level, I didn't want him to be above me.

"Why should I? You not only kidnapped women and men, but children as well." I said and began to raise my hands to his head.

"You took them away from their family's, raped the women, men, and children, why should you have the right to live?" I whispered.

His eyes began to show fear at what was happening, he gripped the knife in his hand and plunged it towards me.

Only for it to pierce the skin and stop, seeing this, the man tried to dig the knife deeper, he even used his other hand like a hammer.

But it didn't go any deeper, he began to stab me all over. The arms, chest, back, head, and when he tried to stab me in the eye, I only tilted to the side.

I then gripped the other arm, holding both of them in place. Seeing that he couldn't use his arms, he proceeded to bash me with his head.

His attempts were futile, since I've felt myself being sliced, crushed, bent, exploded, imploded, and any other forms of pain.

The man kept bashing his head against mine, over and over, wanting me to let him go. But I only stood their, staring at him with the same empty look on my face.

His blood began to dye my fur, his skin splitting open, his skull cracking with each impact, yet all I did was stare.

"Y-you monster!" He said with a weak voice, I could only stare at him, and began to burn him.

He wanted to scream, to beg to anyone to hear him. But I had one of my tails over his mouth, cutting off his last chance to escape,

"You only have yourself to blame, you may call me a monster, but remember, to have a monster." I began to slowly squeeze his head.

"You need to have a maker." I then crushed his head, his blood and brain matter dripped from my hands, and all I could do was still stare.

"Am I really a monster?" I asked myself, I then began to burn the area, wanting to hide what happened, and began to head back to Weiss.

Once arriving back, I found her where I left her. I sat next to her like before, hugging her and making sure she was comfortable.

But I still had one question that was running through my mind.

"Why don't I feel any guilt when I killed them?
